Evanston (/ˈɛvənˌstən/) is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles (19 km) north of downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, and Wilmette to the north. It had a population of 74,486 as of 2010. It is one of the North Shore communities that adjoin Lake Michigan and is the home of Northwestern University. The boundaries of the city of Evanston are coterminous with those of the former Evanston Township, which was dissolved in 2014 by voters with its functions being absorbed by the city of Evanston.

Visited for drinks one evening before dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff at this place within walking distance of our hotel. Many choices of beer (but not the special few asked about sadly so not obviously every single one), wine and other options for non-beer drinkers, Tvs for the games and a few happy hour drink deals (Goose Island). We did not eat but typical bar food on menu. Atmosphere is darker, pub-type place with stools and tables. Several larger sections were closed off, for some reason on a Friday afternoon (not sure why) so seating limited (except the bar), which was disappointing tho. Felt cramped. A lot of road construction just outside so parking likely limited.

Not sure why this place is so highly rated. Food is ok but because of the lack of cleanliness and temperature control in the dining room we won't be back.Bathrooms were dirty and had no option for hand drying. There was an electric hand dryer above the sink but it was inoperable. Not a paper towel in site. Bathroom floor was absolutely filthy. Also could not find a clean table to sit at.We visited on an 85 degree day and there was no air conditioning in the dining room. They did however have 2 ceiling fans going. We couldn't wait to finish eating so we could go outside where it actually felt cooler than it did inside the restaurant.i saw another review that indicated the place accepts cash only and that is true. If you're a Coke or Pepsi lover take note that they only serve RC.I would've given a higher overall rating if there weren't so many cleanliness issues.

The Firehouse Grill in Evanston, Illinois, is housed in a restored, wood-paneled early 1900s firehouse that has been converted into a pub-like restaurant and bar serving American standards. Located at 750 Chicago Avenue in Chicago's northern suburb, it is open at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, at 4:30 p.m. on Monday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Love the atmosphere. There are frescoes of fire scenes covering the wall above the bar. Shiny poles descend from the ceiling. There are floor-to-ceiling windows where garage doors once stood. There also are old firefighters' helmets, jackets and gas-burning lamps scattered on shelves. Also a picture of Evanston firemen from 1873 hanging on the wall. The long wood bar with two large TVs adds a modern touch to the surroundings. Meanwhile, the menu is filled with tasty and innovative goodies. My wife and I started with cheese curds, garlic pretzels, pot roast chili and chicken and sausage gumbo. For a main course, my wife chose chicken pot pie with cheddar cheese. I opted for a char-broiled Firehouse burger with a half-pound of Black Angus beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions on a pretzel roll. With fries. We were tempted by fish and chips, grilled meatloaf sandwich, pulled pork Monte Cristo sandwich and a meat lovers pizza with bacon, sausage and pepperoni. Next time for sure. On this occasion, we shared a large slice os chocolate Oreo cake for dessert. Do you think the Evanston firefighters of 1873 ate so well?

Found this place on Open Table. Great find! Very cool atmosphere, nice wait staff, DELICIOUS food. The manager, Steven, told us their beef came from same place as Au Cheval, so had to try it! Burgers were outstanding! Side salad, a nice option, was delicious. Stole a couple fries from my dining partner, they were good too. Husband had pulled pork, said it was one of the best. My Comopolitan was perfect. We will definitely be back!

This is a neighborhood gem. Just the way the tables are set up creates a friendly place.There is a very good beer selection. It's more than a burger place. For example, I had a roasted veggie quesadilla with guacamole.The walls have artwork, tee flags from golf tournaments and even a mounted bicycle.

This restaurant is near the Northwestern campus and serves fresh and delicious food. The menu is interesting- lots of comfort foods with a modern twist. Soups, salads, pizza, sandwiches. You can sit inside or out, weather permitting. The servers were friendly and the service was very good. I had the spinach and artichoke pizza which also had fresh tomatoes, mushrooms and goat cheese too. It was delicious and I took half of it home. The coconut ice cream was the perfect ending to a good meal.

Heard really good things about the burger that was suppose to be the best in Evanston. Turns it the burger was good but not great. The beef was under seasoned and the brioche bun was dry. The other toppings, sides, and condiments were on point though.

Very good food. Although the menu was not too diverse we were able to find good food for s vegetarian and meet eater. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Location is great: just in the center of Evanston. Perfect for dinner after seeing movie in the nearby theater where parking on Sunday is for free.

Booked a group brunch for 40 people. Got to restaurant at appointed time with the group. We were asked to wait - all 40 of us on the street while they took an additional 15 minutes to set up. When we finally walked in, the food wasn't in place, there was one server doing drink orders for 40 people. The eggs looked like they had been sitting in the pan for a while, the fruit was not ripe and there was no water or condiments on the table.

Peckish, a British term for "hungry". The Pig, a gastro pub, opened in March 2014 and has helped to start a revitalization of Howard St which forms the north Chicago & south Evanston city limits.I had a couple of their ales on a previous visit but this was my first meal. I selected that nights grilled salmon dish which was perfect. I do not recall what my friends dish was but she did enjoy it.We dined on a Thursday and selected the patio to enjoy the pleasant evening. Its enclosed on all sides by surrounding buildings. Only a few tables were occupied. A nice location for a date night. The staff was courteous & provided very good service. We both enjoyed the night and look forward to another visit.
