My daughter wouldn't eat anything other than the steamed rice. The stir fry we ordered came to the table saturated in a gloopy sauce that was so thick it made everything tasteless despite the fact chunks of garlic was sprinkled through it. The vegetables were awful and over cooked. We were recommended to come here as it was close to Sovereign Hill and we were seeing the evening show, but I can not recommend it. It is honestly, the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten and that is saying something.

From the people who brought you the multi award wining Catfish Thai, Mr Jones is the next step in quality relaxed Asian food. Open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner and lunch on Fridays - dine in, takeaway or just grab something quick at the bar
Our special occasion restaurant that never lets us down. Excellent on all criteria. We always go for the banquet; excellent value $65, opportunity to sample a variety of amazing dishes, and caters for food preferences (vegan and chilli intolerance). We are so fortunate to have this high standard restaurant in beautiful Ballarat.

Went for a nice Friday night dinner with family. Had a beautiful Formosa green tea to start. Ordered three entrees and three mains to share between four adults and one child, which was a perfect amount. The mushroom steamed bao were delightfully pillowy soft and delicious morsels. The dumplings were very yummy although the chili sauce turned the child off. Mains included mock pork, Kung Pao mushrooms, and peanut-coconut sauced vegetables. Overall very highly enjoyed and would go again if in the area again.

We were walking along Armstrong street looking for dinner on a Sunday night, and saw several options that all seemed ok without being amazing. When we looked at the Saigon Noodle house we were surprised to see it full despite its very ordinary facade. On the basis that the locals probably knew what they were doing, we decided to ask for a table, and one was found. We were a little dubious due to the long menu that seemed to mostly have Chinese dishes, despite the restaurant billing itself as Vietnamese, and the huge portions we saw being served to the tables nearby. But once the food came, we were blown away. The Vietnamese and Malaysian dishes were just fabulous. The beef wrapped in betel leaves, the san choi bao, and the satay were just really flavoursome and tasty. The pho was a revelation, I've never had such a delicate but tasty broth. It's best to avoid the Chinese dishes however.Prices were very low, and our dinner was incredibly good value for money. Service was fast.
Located opposite the IGA supermarket in the Midvale Shopping Centre, Rice Paddock serves good authentic Japanese food, including Sushi, either to dine in at the counter in the front window, or takeaway. The service is fast and friendly.

This restaurant's food is light years from Pad Thai! The chefs have thought hard about what is distinctive about Thai cuisine and then blended this with various dishes to create food that is world-class. We have eaten in top restaurants in London, New York, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Barcelona, and Catfish Thai could rival any of them. The drink list is extensive, and complements the food - set menu and a la carte. The food is quite reasonably priced. Our only (minor) gripe is that we did not see the rice, which is served with the mains, listed on the menu, and so we assumed that it must have been included - rather than priced at $3.75 per person. One serve would have sufficed for both of us. It was a brilliant meal which demonstrated food artistry at its best.

Moon & Mountain is a modern Asian eatery and bar with an Australian twist where flavours of the East meet drinks of the West #moonandmountain
The staff in this venue are excellent. They are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is great. We decided on the half moon banquet which had a few pork dishes and I'm not a pork eater and told our waiter but he advised we wouldn't be disappointed. One course consisted of some dumplings, two each. Both very tasty but one pair was only lukewarm which was a little disappointing. Soon after the first pork meal arrived, it was a plate of pork and vegetables to make up your own spring rolls. The pork was mainly slimy gooey fat which reminded me of why I don't like pork, My partner ate most of the pork in this dish. The second pork dish, a main served with boiled rice, was more to my liking. The beers sold in this venue are all craft beers which are not to everyone's palate. Some traditional well known beers might be worth having on stock. Sparkling wine is ridiculously expensive and there is only a choice of one type of prossecco and one traditional bubbly which is $95 per bottle. Some cheaper options might be worth stocking. We had sweets as an extra which were very good. Will definitely like to try again but next time pick my own menu items

Warm up from the inside out at BrownGrain Thai Restaurant, authentic Thai recipes- with a modern twist. Just opposite Town Hall.
Provision of Thai-inspired food is competitive in Ballarat. There is good reason why Brown Grain is a leader in the field; the food is excellent, the menu comprehensive, the internal surroundings pleasant, the service efficient, the price fair. On a week night we had not booked, and were surprised by the number of customers - in itself, a positive sign. Next time we will book.

Went to Harry's on a Monday evening for a quiet birthday dinner. We ordered scallops, bruschetta, fillet steak and apple crumble and pavlova. The streak was the standout for the night, coupled with a lovely glass of red. Well priced, the food was fresh and arrived in good time. We enjoyed the night out and would come back again.

Kambei was the choice for our last night in Ballarat and was by far the best of all our dining experiences during our stay. The prompt, efficient and courteous service complimented the excellent food. We recommend the kingfish sashimi, chicken teriyaki and tempura vegetables with prawns, followed by green tea panna cotta.
