The Criterion Hotel Sale

For a hotel on the verge of being bulldozed, the refurbishment is exemplary. Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Food was very well presented and tasted terrific. A mainly young, and enthusiastic staff that was polite and professional. Stayed after dinner and listened to a wonderful 3 piece 'jazz/early rock' group that didn't blow your ears off and that catered for a more mature audience. Great to see musical groups in establishments like these and not just singer/guitarists playing 'Khe San' and 'Horses'!!

In town for business and this hotel was recommended by a local colleague. 3 ordered from the schnitzel menu, each one different. All of us were disappointed with what was a pretty bland meal. Cheap but bland. The 4th ordered a steak and was happy enough. Overall a bit disappointing. Staff were friendly and efficient but they were let down by the kitchen.

The meals were lovely & huge. It took a bit of time but was delicious when we did get them. There was no bowls that day so the dining room wasn't very full. They DO NOT have straws, not even paper ones do you either drink directly from the can or get a glass.Would go back again & take my own straw. I prefer drinking direct from the can & not have my drink go flat over ice. That's just me.
