On a recent tour of Helsinki with friends, we were looking for a quick place to eat. What a joy to find the Espresso House. The focaccia juusto and bagel prosciutto were delicious as well as the cappuccinos. Noora provided cheerful, professional service.

Located in the edge of market square this smallish cafe offers most multifaceted menu; sandwiches, pies, and salads and sweet baked goods from the vitrine and traditional grill stuff by order. As well ice cream portions are available.Even they have terrasse(heated in winter), the place is a bit small with over sized furniture inside.Service personnel is probably the most affable in town.Opened also when the others are closed, weekends until 5 am!

I visited this recently opened new restaurant in early April this year (2016) while visiting the city of Lahti, with a business colleague. It is beautifully appointed and comfortable. The award winning design affords excellent views across the harbour and southern end of Lake Vesijarvi from virtually every seat in the place. The food we were served can only be described as exquisite - "Finnish caviar" from the lake (not actually caviar but a very good alternative), Reindeer meat in a red wine sauce with local Cloud-berries, and a recently interesting selection of cheeses to finish. The service was just the combination of friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommended. Pricing good for this high standard.

Mlinar Cafe is a newcomer in Lahti. Location at the lobby of Finnkino is sometimes a bit busy, but mornings and early afternoons the place is peaceful enough. Cakes and pastries are made by original Croatian recipes, so the selection is unique and very different than any other cafés in Lahti.

Visited Horus in February on a Saturday afternoon. It was full of people, but not crowded, had an easygoing vibe to it.Excellent cappuccino on offer, also lunch, some baked goods, also for takeaway.Trendy and hipster without being pretentious. Hit the mark for me. Carrot cake was on point, as well as the home made rolls (sämpylä)!

If you like to have a good lunch in Lahti and try out new vegetable dishes, this is the place to go. The lunch buffet always includes homemade soup and a variety of salads and the main dishes are made out of local seasonal ingredients. There is also a sofa corner with books to read. Very friendly place, I'm looking forward to visit again.
