We just had a not so good experience dealing with a lady who we felt was a bit paranoid about cooking and making even slightest noises late evening (10pm) - the amount of noise one would expect from a usual cooking.

Outdated hotel but good facilities
Reviewed By Nelli313The hotel feels very old and outdated, there was a bit funky smell in the rooms and lobby. But sauna and good breakfast was included in the price as well as a bottle of water. We phoned the hotel directly to make a reservation and got even better deal, I recommend to book directly from hotel.

Friendly but weary
Reviewed By klassivanemNice mansion near Kotka. Old building has been renovated years ago and interior is weary. On the other hand the service was friendly and welcoming. As there were only two guests the breakfast was served almost a la carte :)

Old time haven by the Nature Park
Reviewed By mWriteKirjokivi Manor - Kirjokiven kartano in Finnish was designed by Eliel Saarinen, who designed Helsinki Railway station also. It was built late 19th century by Rudolf Elving, who was CEO of the Woikoski company. Therefore there are several gas bottles as decoration. Manor was his summer home and saw its glory times early 20th century. Later it was owned by city of Kouvola and worked as a summer camp before current owners bought it and started the endless restoring. Beautifully restored with good taste, however there is no original furniture left. It is located ca 40km from Kouvola, next to Repovesi Nature Park. We were warmly welcomed by the waitress, who also checked us in. Our room was in the of the side buildings, in an old warehouse "Aitta". Room had two separate beds, own bathroom, garderobe and a minibar. It has an air-conditioning, which is very nice during hot summer and gives a possibility for good night sleep. Breakfast was good, with porridge as a hot component and hot tea or coffee. Orange juice was very light, most likely summer cook had read the mixing instructions wrongly. There was also bread and pastry with normal toppings like ham and cheese. Generally I could summarise breakfast with word "healthy". At the breakfast the old Madam of the Manor was present and told interesting stories about history. As the manor is located next to Nature Park, you can make nice hiking trips there. Location by the lake enables water activities, however the rowing boat and SUP boards are rented. Disc golf with 9 holes on the premises is free to use. Sauna is also available against a fee. Summary: Highly recommend to get time machine feeling for old times.

Reviewed By Mika VGood place if you are looking for a hotel without any extra services. One night does not cost much but you only get a bed and bath. The staff was very friendly. Parking was free. There is no wifi. Breakfast was available for extra fee. Some services are near - bar, groceries and pizza.

Reviewed By sakarikaThis is not the fanciest option in town but for the price they do a good job. Our room was recently renovated and in good shape: clean, few signs of wear and tear, sturdy beds. Tasty brekky served in a pub next door.

In the evening I ate in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the portions of a good size! As I booked very late, I wasn't able to get a room in the main building anymore and I stayed in one of the apartments in the terraced houses instead. The room was basic with simple furniture, but very spacious and had a small, own terrace with a table and a couple of chairs. There were a small refrigerator and an electric kettle in the room too. The room was clean, but the bath room floor was a bit broken though. My apartment had a good, big double bed and a smaller single bed as well, so it would have been suitable even for 3 persons. There were a couple of different pillows to choose from and the bed linen were bright and colourful. There are two saunas and a pool in the main building of the hotel. Upon arrival you may book one hour private sauna free of charge (but the pool is shared for the both saunas). Just like the name says, the hotel is located next to the sea, and the surroundings are very calm and beautiful. There are several benches spread out here and there on the outdoor areas of the hotel where you can sit down and enjoy the view and the peaceful athmosphere.

Reviewed By 187duncThe hotel is ok, the host is lovely and extremely helpful. The room is super cute and cosy. The breakfast was ok, not much of a selection, but enough to fill the belly. The rooms don't have a tv but there's a communal TV room directly outside the room with tea and coffee facilities.

The Guest house "Ugrin Paikka" is in the center of the beautiful Finnish village Sippola, near by the Lutheran Church, supermarket Sale, Art-center Antares. The guest house has two rooms with a separate kitchens, a barbecue in the garden, wood-fired sauna, own cafe, shop of art objects and souvenirs, free parking. Capacity of the guest house is up to 14 people, capacity of the cafe is up to 40 people. There are quiet lake with a beach, lighted trail for walking in the woods (with ski-track in the winter), a large number of berries and mushrooms in season in 10 minutes walk. Bus stop is in 70 meters. The guest house is located between the cities of Hamina and Kouvola (about 30 km from each), close to the town of Kotka (45 km). It is offered transfer to/from railway stations, airports, etc., a lot of excursions with guide.
