The worst thing about Crowbar is to chose your beer(s). The selection is great and the staff helpful and skilled. Get one of their own brewed beers, although the rest of the beers are tempting. Personal favourite was a Wheat IPA, to die for... Have somehting to eat with your beer, everything on the menu is simple but awesome. Pricelevel is acceptable. C u next time in Oslo.

No candelabre anymore, and the gregorian chanting that made the place so special was gone this time. What a shame! Opened in 1992 and otherwise not changed over the years, but more noisy than before and assembly line before x-mas. No traditional x-mas food (yippi!) but trying a twist in the subject. Should stick to the normal menu which is fine. Kitchen deliver although small portions and not as warm ad it should (assembly line) poor service from unexperienced staff, but sure it is back to normal after the holiday. Get the chanting and candelabre bach with professional staff, and I will give full score next. Still worth finding. Large, but intimate at the same time. Booking recommended for weekends.

High quality, fully flavoured and with top rated ingredients. Only two problems: difficult to choose and impossible to stop.

Brasserie Paleo

Reviewed By DouglasA587

We arrived in Oslo late and wanted somewhere to eat at about 9pm on a Wednesday. The Paelo Grill was close and TA had it in the top 5% of Oslo restaurants. We went along and there was only a few other diners there at that time. The menu style is “Paleo”-diet, in the sense that they don’t have any processed foods. However, we had the selection of cold meats and pickles for a starter, and it had a variety of cured hams and salamis. I presume they did those themselves to count as Paleo? The lamb salami was particularly different. For main I had the Hanger Steak, which had been sous vide for many hours and was actually well done but falling apart tender; with a great sauce, accompanied by Asparagus and Fried sprint onions. My wife had the lamb, which was a bit hit and miss. Some pieces tender but crunchy on the outside, but some chewy. She also found the veggies on the plate a little crunchy. We also received a small plate of extra veggies to share, which was good since otherwise we would have been hungry. This is a place where you need at least two dishes each; and in hindsight I might have tried their 3 course menu for 440 NOK.Cocktails and beer were also fine, but this was our first introduction to Norwegian alcohol prices, so we were a bit shocked but realized later that it’s normal. So for a late evening meal, it was fine, and OK value, but it didn’t feel like special experience. The restaurant is attached to a hotel, which in my mind usually makes them either terrible or amazing (and amazingly expensive). Paeleo was middling.Hi DouglasA587,Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are glad you were happy with your visit to Brasserie Paleo. As you mention, our concept focuses on using the least amount of processed ingredients possible. We have made some adaptations to better suit a modern, Norwegian diet. For guests who want to get an full, reasonable experience of our Paleo concept, we happily recommend the three-course menu.Hope to see you again in our restaurant.Regards Terje ChristensenF&B Manager

Just a couple of blocks off of Karl Johans Gate, in the heart of central Oslo sits this outstanding, elegant restaurant. The inconspicuous exterior opens up to a much nicer interior. Reservations are highly recommended, since the place tends to be full for weeks. It is closed Sundays and Mondays. The 3, 4, 5 or 6-course menu changes frequently, based on the season and available, high quality ingredients. Wine pairing is available, although not mandatory. Our dinner started with a delightful glass of champagne, followed by a Salmon tartar, Witch flounder with Crab sauce, Mink Whale, Fried Halibut and concluded with an apricot and banana creation, followed by a Strawberry Parfait. Each course was accompanied by well-selected wines that enhanced the flavor of each dish. On of us had multiple allergies, especially to seafood. The chef was very willing to work with us and prepared substitute dishes wherever it was necessary. Service was outstanding and we felt warmly welcome.
