First time visiting Martel, we found the main square so pretty decided to stop there for lunch.Maison Sophie does local ingredients in a traditional way with a modern twist. Super tasty salads and desserts.Friendly staff, but can be a little slow if the place becomes busy, just go with the pace of life, and relax

This small restaurant in the central square looked promising but we had a bad experience here. The proprietress knocked my full glass of cider as she placed my plate on the table, broke it, flooded my new, white pants with cider as well as sprinkling my n

We thought this was going to be a pizzeria - but found an old-fashioned restaurant du coin. Simple food well presented. Good portions and excellent wine (though there is beer on draught as well). Proper coffee (not the awful Clooney stuff that is more and more prevalent). We had beef - excellent; served with a potato, cheese and bacon side dish - brilliant.Martel in December is very quiet - this was the only place open - so booking was important.Efficient service - despite the one waitress having ten tables to look after.

After a morning of wandering around a medieval village, we went to the village of Martel for lunch at the restaurant Plein Sud. We sat outside under the umbrellas in the market square. The staff were friendly and the food was presented to a table of nine very quickly. We all gave the restaurant our tick of approval.

After our first visit some weeks prior we were greatly looking forward to a family outing..in Martel..Our first visit ticked all the boxes one might say.I ordered the pave du thon and after my first mouthful found it so very salty it was inedible...Not wishing to draw attention I left the table and approached the young waiter and had a quiet word ...I waited having asked the young waiter to let the chef know my dilemma....after a while it seemed clear no apology or the offer of a less salty dish was offered..When it came to paying the bill an attempt at an apology was made, however my general impression was that perhaps the staff were inexperienced...Not even a reduction for a meal that was hardly touched-guess we wont be going back ..such a shame

Au Hasard Balthazar

Typical local food ( foie gras, confit, cassoulet...) And selection of wines from Cahors . Charming atmosphere in the old Martel.

Martel deserves a detour, especially when visiting hyper touristy and crowded Rocamadour in the Midi-Pyrénées region. The village is charming, with gorgeous architecture and buildings everywhere, showing the signs of a very rich past. But the village is extremely lively and welcomes visitors with an abundance of places to visit and eat. After a stroll in the tiny streets of this little town with 7 towers, a lunch at that specific place is a must. Entering through a pretty shop full of local produces and goodies, the restaurant area is on the first floor. Nothing fancy, simple and clean setting. A menu of mostly South-West France delicacies (foie gras and many others) and if one is not too hungry, beautiful salads with magrets, fois gras and fresh vegetables. Local and other areas wines. Not the cheapest bistrot but great value and excellent friendly service. But reservation is highly recommended as it is very busy !

We had better luck than previous reviewer - we also went to this place on Sunday, September 9 and it was open. We travel a lot in Europe and know that on Saturday and Sunday it is essential to make a reservation. If previous reviewer tried to call to reserve - it would save him a trip for nothing. This is a very good place, warm, beautiful rural setting, delicious and hearty meal, good value for money. Hearty, friendly welcome and trouble free service.. This place is authentic, the meal begins with the delicious soup and hearty salad that follows, well seasoned with walnut oil and walnuts from their garden and Perigord foie gras pâté, complete with duck breast with potatoes - divinely cooked. Desserts naturally walnut's cake with homemade ice cream, just as delicious. Cheese is well stocked and well presented on beautiful fig leavesThis address is a great value for the quality of the meals and very welcome service. Please note that they don't accept credit cards

Le Petit Moulin

This is definitely a place where I would come back. They work with local produce, either from their own or from local producers. Their food is recognized as fine dining, but they are not more expensive than any regular restaurant next door. And on top of that, the owner is very friendly and comes to chat with customers, the waiters know very well the menu and are trained to recommend wines...To sum it up, it's a gem!Besides, the owner makes his own wine and his a walnut producer -so you can imagine all the great dessert with walnuts you can have! And if you drink too much, they even have guest rooms for you to spend the night!

We had a great lunch here, at €17.00 per head for three courses. We had the assiette de charcuterie and the Rocamadour Quercynois salad to start, followed by Faux filet with French fries, and ended with Tarte Tatin and ice cream. All were delicious, in particular the Tarte Tatin. We also enjoyed a pichet of red wine for €6. Would definitely recommend.
