El Salvador's capital, San Salvador, is a modern city of wide boulevards and narrow streets, outdoor markets, government buildings, high-rises, monuments, an exuberant nightlife, museums and other cultural institutions. And all set against the backdrop of San Salvador volcano. The city is surrounded by shantytowns as well as affluent suburbs with restaurants and large shopping malls. Peaceful settings such as the botanic garden of Parque Cuscutlan provide a break from the city's hectic pace.

Restaurant Pueblo Viejo

Reviewed By Eldereaglewatcher

I have reviewed Pueblo Viejo previously and have accompanied a couple groups there since the first review. We returned to Pueblo last month to celebrate the end of a week's work in El Salvador. It was disappointing. Our table had a soiled table cloth, and it appeared that no attempt had been made to clean it up. The service was adequate but not the excellent service we've had in the past. I had the shrimp ceviche which was good and contained a generous amount of shrimp. Other people had seafood that was good. However, two in our group had the filet of fish which was absolutely inedible. I have never seen fish so tough it could not be cut or eaten. The server and the manager were told about the food which was returned to the kitchen uneaten. However, the only compensation offered was 10% off each of the 2 unsatisfactory meals. We probably won't be bring future groups to Pueblo Viejo.

Loved this place. Many dishes to pick from. They have a nice selection of Mexican cuisine. Service staff is very friendly. Conveniently located and big enough for large groups. You have to try the shrimp tacos and the Aguachile del jefe. The shrimp burrito is also delicious.

This restaurant has been around for years, I had like a couple of years without going but it surprise me the quality of the food, the flavor and presentation. This is an international food type of restaurant but in my opinion specialized in Mexican food and actually is I have to say the BEST especially the tacos are amazing. The restaurant needs improvement in its infrastructure, service needs as well some help but believe me that you forget all that with the food.We had an entree "compartamos" that are fried beans, guacamole, nachos and some cheese quesadillas.Main course I had a "torta al Pastor", we order as well some "Tacos al pastor & Lengua" and my kids had some chicken nuggets and a grill cheese sandwich.Dessert: Ice Cream with chocolate and a crepe. Here are a couple of pictures

Really enjoy my visits to this restaurant. The burnt cheese roll was too much for one person but the gringa Arabe was perfect. Lemonade was fresh and tart. Great service. Thank you. No wifi where I was sitting.
