Reviewed By X1305HDpaulinafWir haben für zwei Nächte gebucht und haben dann noch verlängert. Es ist ein sehr schönes Hostel. Es gibt eine schöne Gemeinschaftsarea und zwei Pools. Wir haben uns hier total wohl gefühlt. Mark und seine Frau sind sehr offen und freundlich und konnten uns viele Tipps und Informationen über Aktivitäten und unsere Weiterreise nach Santa Ana geben. Beide sprechen sehr gutes Englisch. Die Zimmer sind sehr hellhörig. Uns hat das nicht wirklich gestört aber ist vielleicht gut zu wissen für andere. Morgens kommt ein Obst und Gemüsehändler und eine Art Bäckerei vorbeigefahren und ca. 50 Meter vom Hostel entfernt gibt es super leckere Pupusas für 50 Cent. Wir haben es hier sehr genossen :)

Had to move room for the last night of our stay (after them telling us we didn't need to), found a cockroach in the room, shower water seemed to be mostly seawater (extremely salty?), and the owners argued with us when we asked for a second towel as they expected us to share one towel between two people. It was unfortunately very noisy too so we found it very hard to sleep with traffic on the road and staff hanging out in the kitchen area playing movies on their phone at full volume in the middle of the night. The kitchen was also really dirty so we didn't want to use it to cook anything. Pay a few extra dollars and go to one of the other hostels in El Tunco!

Perfect Place

I could write an article why I loved it that much, but I will tell you just the most important things: - It is just 1min walk from La Bocana. So you can have your free good morning coffee while checking the waves. - There is free coffee and water! - The outdoor kitchen is one of the best in Tunco (there is an oven! and a freezer!) - The stuff is super nice. Thank you Mirian, Juanita, Nelson and Lionel! - It's cozy, you have upstairs 3, downstairs 2 hammocks and a small 'lounge' with deck chairs. - You have a 'garden', with small palmtrees! - It is no partyhostel, it is a surfhostel! There are plenty of solotravelers who are surfers. So you can find easily surfcompany and friends for having a few beers :-)

Enjoyable stay in El Tunco
Reviewed By thomascR4695XQI stayed a few nights here recently. The staff are very helpful. They were able to arrange a shuttle($) for me when I arrived at night at the airport. I was, at the time, a tad nervous about visiting El Salvador so it was nice to have the transfer arranged for me. I stayed both in a dorm and a private room during my stay. The dorm does not have a great layout and the private room was a bit pricey. The atmosphere here makes up for any shortcomings. It has lots of places for socializing and I met many great travelers from around the world. We had a great time laughing over drinks in the common areas. The pool was a real bonus in the hot El Tunco heat. The location is right in the middle of the town which was very convenient. Mixed in with the backpackers are a fairly hard core surfing crowd. I am not a surfer but really enjoyed my discussions with them, after all, El Tunco is all about the waves. I would hesitate to stay here again.

Great little spot
Reviewed By jenn-ac-1993Pelícanos is actually a homestay rather than a hostel/hotel with a very lovely family. Be prepared to wake up to chickens staring at you! The 'private' room is actually just an area upstairs with a sheet you can pull across to make it 'private'. There's also no window it's open so get a nice breeze but also lots of bugs! Bed was pretty comfy though and the views are spectacular! If you don't mind a rustic experience then we'd highly recommend!

Reviewed By Andy EOwners always on-site, good people and always available. The hotel is right off the beach area, ideally located for privacy and access. The bar and restaurant are 5-star. Rooms are spotless and ver comfortable. Hotel a great value. Highly recommend.

Los Almendros Hostal is a special place located in front of the ocean, surrounded by amazing waves all year long. In Los Almendros you will find a unique environment. SURF. SUN. RELAX. We are small and cozy, that is why you will always have enough space to relax and have your privacy. A perfect place for those who want to surf all day or read a book and watch spectacular sunsets.

Reviewed By Kaiser_DThe only reasons this stay was not a perfect, 5-star rating is the small challenges locating it, and the distance from some of the local eateries and activities. This area is under development, and I anticipate it being even more attractive in the coming months. Olympic surfing qualifiers were held in this area so the waves are well regarded. The beaches are rocky instead of soft sand, although the smooth stones made traversing or sitting on the beach perfectly comfortable. The hidden nature of the hotel might be a draw for some. I saw couples, families, and groups. There were also visitors from neighboring Guatemala and others who seemed to enjoy the beachfront tables for dining without being guests of the hotel. The rooms were clean with views of the water; the sound of waves gently woke me up in the morning. The bathroom in my room was compact, but not cramped. The towels and bath products were high quality, the beds comfortable, and the common areas appreciably decorated to suit the beachfront location. There is also a pool and deck area worthy of social media superstars. Drinks from the bar were impeccably made and presented, with a price point capable of tempting indulgence. When I visit again I plan to stay at this property. It may be nice to explore some other options for comparison even though I could easily spend a week with the pleasant staff, delicious drinks, and relaxing atmosphere of this property.

Reviewed By Boma2019Veronica’s place was an absolute dream and I will never forget my time here. A friend and I stayed here for about a month and loved every second of it. Close to a great wave, not far from town, beautiful surroundings and most importantly beautiful people. Having never travelled Central America before, and not speaking a word of Spanish, Veronica and her young son Diego made us feel safe and sound. Like a dotting mother Veronica looked after us, she prepared gorgeous meals, gave us her best room with all the mod cons and introduced us to her extremely hospitable neighbours. Her friend Maritsio picked us up from the airport and made sure we had a lift for surf missions and the like. He even invited us to his mothers 60th birthday party. Karaoke optional. Overall this is a great place, safe, relaxed, fun and comfortable. I would recommend Guesthouse El Balsamo to anyone. Tom
