We enjoyed our meal at this fine dining restaurant on the Steenberg estate. Our welcome was warm and our service polite, efficient and most helpful. My braised lamb ravioli was quite delicious. Equally, my main chicken dish was delightful, tasty and moist. Our other main was line fish with a risotto. My wife left her risotto as she commented that it was the worst risotto ever. My wife felt the risotto was very glutinous and stodgy. Our desserts were very nice. My wife enjoyed a strawberry based dessert. We lived the estates Pink based Pinot MCC and enjoyed a bottle of estate Sauvignon Blanc with our main meal. Overall, a very nice evening with lovely, courteous service and a very good meal with the exception of the risotto, which we chose not to complain about to the maitre.

We had an early dinner with 4 adults and 2 children. Very peaceful and quiet outdoor table with excellent service. Kids had the hamburgers and adults a variety of tortilla and flat breads. All very tasty with a good bottle of Durbanville Hills SB. This place always delivers.

La Colombe

La Colombe, one of Cape Town's most well-loved and awarded restaurants. Contemporary French-meets-Asian fine dining.

Not surprising La Colombe features in lists of the world's top restaurants. The set lunch menu is indeed a performance: as the chef says:"food is our theatre". And all this in a lovely setting overlooking the wooded hillside and vines. Predictably excellent staff, exquisite tastes in each of the numerous courses, delicious wines.

My husband and I were wondering where we should go for lunch on the last day of our holiday and, despite having driven from Constantia to Cape Town central, decided to make a round trip and visit Simon's Restaurant and what a great decision that was.
We'd eaten in Jonkershuis Restaurant, which is also on the Groot Constantia estate the night before and was so impressed that we thought it would be worth doing the 15minute drive back to try Simon's.
Just the drive through the stunning vinyards makes the trip worth it and the warm welcome from the fabulous staff brightened up an overcast day.
We were offered inside or outside Seating and selected outside- we arrived quite early and had a choice of tables but it got busy with the lunchtime rush even on a Tuesday.
I had eaten breakfast before checking out our hotel so wasn't particularly hungry but my husband hadn't eaten and we had a long day ahead with a flight that evening so I went for a burger and my husband had fish and chips and both dishes were delicious.
I found the burger quite large for lunch but that's not a complaint- I was just disappointed I couldn't eat it all. It was fat, juicy and mouthwatering and the chips were soft, fluffy and crispy on the outside.
The restaurant itself is very attractive - modern and tasteful - it's just the sort of place my husband and I would frequent if we lived nearby. The staff were superb with warm welcome and cheerful farewells and the service was quick and efficient whilst being really friendly.
The restaurant has a pretty outlook and is surrounded by vineyards and has a great varied menu. Simon's Restaurant was definitely a great choice for our final meal in Cape Town and well worth a visit.

We dined at this rather lovely restaurant after visiting the winery and vineyard. This restaurant is situated in one of Buitenverwachting's beautiful and original thatch buildings and forms part of the wonderful complex of the wine estate. This restaurant is in a stunning location with views to die for and after dining here, the food that we had was of a good quality as everything was beautifully seasoned to ensure rather fresh, natural tasting food. The ingredients used for the dishes were so fresh and natural that it gave an extra added natural flavours to the overall texture of the dishes. The usage of the herbs and spices was perfected rightly to ensure a finely balanced taste and flavours of the dishes. The service at this restaurant was fine with nice, friendly waiting staff, while the wines accompanying our meals, especially the reds, were fantastic and of the highest quality. Overall this was a great dining experience with good food, good service, fantastic wines in a relaxed and comfortable environment in such a beautiful and tranquil settings. We left extremely satisfied and happy to have dined here.

What a gem! The French-born chef certainly knows how to serve up a good lunch. Without doubt this is the best eating experience in Cape Town. It serves classic French-style food without all the gimmicks currently conjured up by some of the other top restaurants in the city and surrounding area. It is pleasantly situated in a farmstead setting and firmly focused on giving the diner an exquisite experience. As a top end restaurant it is also reasonably priced. We prefer lunch so that we can take in the ambience of the little village but we have also been there for dinner, which was equally memorable. Everything was cooked to perfection and the wines were very palatable. Encroyable, as the French would say.

Firstly the wine tasting, well organised, knowledgeable, friendly staff and fabulous wine. The Capensis chardonnay is great, I don't drink much white wine but we visited a second time just for this wine. The setting is beautiful, modern and relaxing.
The bistro -1682 was very good, popular and trendy. We had the chef's choice as we wanted to try something different, all were tasty and well delivered. A good place to visit to enjoy good wine and food in a lovely setting.

We were recommended Jonkershuis by our hotel manager and upon arrival fell in love with the stunning scenery, relaxed atmosphere and mouthwatering dishes.
From the drive through the beautiful vineyards, to the short walk from the car park, everything is a treat for the senses.
My husband and I went for an early dinner and were lucky enough to get a table outside - there are quite a few but it started getting busy as we were leaving - and our waiter brought our drinks very quickly enabling us to peruse the varied menu while enjoying a beverage.
My husband chose mussels to start and venison for his main, whilst I went for the pork belly for main and skipped a starter.
Hubby loved the mussels and though I'm not a fan, the accompanying bread dipped in the creamy garlic sauce was very tasty.
When our main dishes came, I was extremely impressed at the presentation, which is fine dining style. Both dishes came with the most fabulous accompaniments - my pork, which was cooked to perfection had pork croquettes instead of usual potato ones and they were amazing.
Unfortunately we were too full to eat a dessert so we instead went for a walk to see the vineyards (which were part of the view whilst dining) and enjoy the setting sun over this beautiful establishment.
What I love about going out in South Africa is the relaxed way people dine. Some people dress up (I love to get my best dresses on) and other people are more casual - most things are acceptable and I'm not bothered if I'm too OTT - but the one thing I would say about visiting places like Jonkershuis is, ladies wear flat(ish) shoes (or stick with wedges). It took me quite a while to get used to that but it's so worth it as it means you can walk across the shingle, then for a meander to see stunning views.
Jonkershuis was definitely the best restaurant we visited whilst in South Africa this time and we were so taken with it, we drove back to the Groot Constantia estate to try their other restaurant (Simon's) from central Cape Town the following day for lunch.
For our last night in South Africa, this was the perfect ending to a lovely holiday.

This is nothing like Tashas in Sandton City Johannesburg where the service is great and one can pop in for an exotic imported beer or two. Here we were seated and told the only 'imported' beer was Heineken or a Windhoek Lager. Seriously? Then after we begrudgingly ordered one of the two the waitron then informed us, very rudely, that we couldn't have them because it was 15 mins before 11am. Beer she said would only be served after 11am. We left.
