Earth Fair Food Market

We visit this market periodically when in the south. It is quite nice. Eclectic range of products and foods. Lovely Bedouin tent outside. A few observations: We love the German sausage on the fresh roll with sauerkraut and onion, the Dutch croquets and Swiss rozenkutchen, the pates. Many options. There is a gent there who sharpens knives and implements. Useful service and great results. Wine lovely. We don't like any of their craft beers. Why no SAB beers which are hallmarks of Cape Town is a mystery... ? - fresh flowers and veggies available. We had one huge disappointment when we bought a stew out of potjie. Rip off price at over R 90 for a modest portion. Only to find that it comprised 30% grissel and fat. Market open on Wed late afternoon and evenings. Live music (nice) Wednesdays - but far too loud. We would recommend this market to tourists and locals but be cautious when the indigent woman harasses you in the car park outside. She has stalked and harassed us on two occasions - demanding money while hurling political abuse at us all the way to our vehicle. A security official came to our rescue which we appreciated. All this took place under the gaze of the parking attendant. Parking attendants are everywhere in South Africa, such has been our experience. They add little value and generally want a gratuity.

Blue Route Mall

On a hot day an air conditioned mall was a lovely experience. The grocery store was very busy but as usual the friendly till staff helped us pack and take the shopping to the car.
The dress shop with imported clothing from China was kept us busy for an hour. I found the prices good compared to British ones reasonable.

Tokai Forest

It gets pretty warm in this part of the world, so it's nice to be able to jog under the protection of a wooded area. The surface is a mix of gravel and sand. And in some areas you will get exposed to the sun (the woods only cover about half of the park in my estimate). Look out for fast bikers!

We did the "Private Full Day Peninsula Tour". Our guides name was Suleiman. He was amazing! Dress for comfort & in walking shoes. Bring a camera, you don't want to miss anything. My favorite activity was visiting the Penguins. Suleiman was extremely pleasant & knowledgeable. When we got to the Cape of Good Hope there was a lot of confusion with other tourist about taking photographs, but Suleiman got everyone organized & made sure we got the perfect shot.

Not withstanding the repairs being undertaken to several aprons and fairways (and in the current drought, I suspect they will take some time to recover), we really enjoyed our round of golf at Sternberg. In truth the GUR whilst extensive did not affect our play - possibly more luck than skill! - and the greens were in good condition with reasonable grass cover (but the speed seemed occasionally a bit variable). However, we were disappointed that on a couple of holes the green keeping continued apparently oblivious to the players. The layout makes for a good challenging resort course rather than a championship standard one, but with some interesting holes requiring thoughtful club selection and course management. The pace of play on the first 9 was really good and whilst the second nine slowed down, we still finished in respectable time. It is an easy walking course and we were very happy to walk round with no caddy, but my sense is that if buggies and caddies are required they are best booked in advance as they seem to be in limited supply. The locker room facilities are excellent whereas, even by golf club standards, there is quite a limited menu choice for eating. We look forward to playing the course again.
