Phuket Big Buddha

Reviewed By tric7400 - Hong Kong, China

There is lots to do here and the views are amazing. You can also learn a 7 minute meditation and receive a gift from a monk and a blessing for a small donation.
The views are amazing but currently there is building works going on which spoils it slightly.
You cannot show your knees or shoulders otherwise you have to borrow some clothes at the entrance but it seems this rule only applied to women!

If you love creepy guys, this is your place. Wall to wall with leering, sweaty sunburnt men creepily checking out young thai women (and men) like the McDonalds value menu. Worth seeing, but you come away from the place feeling like you're life is slightly more on track than some of the creeps out there.

We arrived very late in the day, but a very friendly tour guide ran up to us and said he could give us an A+ tour in the short amount of time we had, and he sure did! I can't remember what we paid for the tour, but it wasn't much. WELL worth it. Don't try and wander on your own. You'll miss so much!
He very patiently explained all of the Buddha poses, the difference between Chinese & Thai Buddhism and showed us the best of the best. We learned the etiquette, participated in a prayer around an amazing and ancient Bodhi Tree and felt like we had a quick and useful immersion. So glad we did this.
Tip: make sure you know when each site opens and closes. This site closed at 5:30. We had also wanted to visit the Grand Palace, but it closed at 3:30. If we had time, we could have had a traditional thai massage and seen a bit more. When we arrived at 4:45/5pm, there was no line-up at all.

Maeklang Elephant Conservation Community

Maeklang Elephant Conservation Community is a new project in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Our simple aim is to provide safe home for rescued elephants in a way that involves the local community and to promote pesticide free farming. Thanks for supporting us♥

I booked the half day tour to the Maeklang elephant sanctuary after it was recommended from my hostel and didn’t regret it for a minute! First you will get some information about the elephant’s history and change into traditional clothes provided by them (very convenient since elephants love dirt).
You will have plenty of time to meet and feed the elephants, get to know their spirit and take awesome pictures of course ;) Afterwards you will join them for a very muddy bath to clean them and play with them which was a very unique and amazing experience for me and the whole group!
Also big thanks to our tour guide Tua, you did a great job! Loved it ❤️

Phang Nga Elephant Park

The best establishment in Southern Thailand to experience our national animal - THE ELEPHANT. Close-by to Phang Nga & Khao Lak, bordering a leafy national park - we are dedicated to providing our elephants with the highest quality-of-life. We are against unnatural practices such as elephant dancing and circus tricks, and strive constantly to educate and improve animal welfare.

Visited the park with my wife this morning and she was so excited she couldn't sleep. It lived up to our expectations and more. The trip from Khao Lak was about 45 mins. We were greeted by a very friendly English guide called Duane. After a quick safety chat we were off to see our elephants. There were only 7 guests this morning and each couple or family had an elephant to care for (under supervision of their real mahouts). The elephants are well looked after and loved. After walking up a hill (you could ride the elephant bareback but we chose not to) you got to prepare a basket of yummy treats for your elephant and then feed them. After this you get to ride or walk with your elephant back down the hill ready to give them a bath. Here's the best bit....you get in with them. You wash your elephant and get to spend time in the pool until they decide they have had enough. Ours rolled on her side loving it and another fell asleep.
After this we got to shower off and then have a really tasty lunch. The final part of the experience is to get to see the baby elephants, from a safe distance.
All in all, a truly fabulous experience...thank you.

A day to remember! A unique glimpse into the important work they do and into the lives of the animals. You get very close - incredibly close - to the elephants in particular. The staff are so motivated and enthusiastic that it's catching. All is very professionally organised and the concept is well thought out. Definitely worth going, probably to day you will remember best from your holiday.

I would definitely book this if you are a foodie and want a different experience other than the same same thai restaurant.

As a group of 12, tim and the trainers were excellent in accommodating us and making sure we received the most personalised training possible! The trainers are experienced and motivating working with everyone's different levels and abilities!
Tim went out of his way to make us feel welcome and part of the team and all of the guys had an unforgettable experience!
We will definitely be visiting again and would recommend to anybody wanting to develop their training or try out Musy Thai for the first time!
A great gym with great people!

Wow...what can I say? I just had to come back here...it was like coming home in a way. The familiar beauty of Chiang Mai, the peaceful setting of the Pavana Resort, the excellent food at Radiance restaurant and the perfect spa & infrared sauna treatments - and of course, the Fresh Start Bootcamp fitness program and the passionate people behind it that make it the success it is.
I was excited to come back for the week from 18th-25th August, because I knew how just 1 week with Fresh Start could transform me. I lost 2.2kg, 2.7% body fat and an incredible 8cm from my waist in just one week. I couldn't believe the 8cm number so I had myself measured a couple of times to be sure haha!
I have to say a very big thank you to Anton for being such an amazing Instructor. Anton was very intuitive and motivated each and every person in the group to take their fitness to the next level. In my case, this meant extra long rounds of Muay Thai sessions, push-ups, pull-ups, sprinting, one-legged squats, uphill cycling and so much more. Anton even did an extra Muay Thai surprise session for us on the last day after bootcamp finished!! Really going above and beyond, so thank you Anton! By the way, Anton also has some cool ideas for fitness on the go - for example, burpees at the airport anyone? :D
I had few goals in mind from the last time I went to Bootcamp. First time around, I didn't complete the cycling day i.e. I didn't cycle the last 5-6 kms back to camp. This time I was determined to cycle all of the 30 kms we did that day and guess what - I did! Slowly but steadily with the superb motivation of Anton & Lek :) Anton even challenged us with a super steep slope and when we got to the top drenched in sweat (yes, you feel like you are under a shower the whole time!), the whole group was so happy to have worked together supporting and encouraging each other all the way. Furthermore, last time I really struggled to get to Level 10 of the Waterfall taking an hour or so easily and this time I took about 30 minutes (and running downhill on the way back!!) :D
Another thing to mention is that Anton was very creative and ensured that people who had been at bootcamp for over 1 week did not get bored doing the same activities. We went on different hiking trips to national parks not visited before, we swam in the 'Grand Canyon', we played team games (which were surprising super calorie burning) and canoed in the massive swimming pool at Prem School and also had Aqua sessions at Pavana.
We had a wonderful group of people from Qatar, UK, Canada, Bermuda & India - it was such a fun group and everyone was inspired & inspiring :) Some people stayed on for 2-3 weeks, some for 4 and one even for 7 weeks. That says a lot about the kind of place that Fresh Start is.
My favourite part about the bootcamp were the circuit sessions, HIIT training, cardio tennis, the Muay Thai sessions and of course the cycling day. The days were hard work but there was a great sense of accomplishment come 6pm each evening.
You know how sometimes we eat while being distracted by the TV or mobile phone and can't remember whether we ate or not or what it is that we ate? Eating food at Fresh Start was like meditation and we all ended up savoring and relishing each and every bite. Never in our lives had any of us given so much attention to the food we were eating - the taste, texture, aroma etc. I was amazed when I had black coffee once during bootcamp and could only think of its taste for the next 10 minutes - bootcamp really helped bring me in tune with food and connect with what I eat instead of being distracted and wolfing everything down.
To conclude, I recommend Fresh Start to anyone looking to do just that. I myself hope to return later this year for my 3rd time and take my fitness to the next level.

I just want to explain very fast my case because I think it could help someone.
Five years ago I had a hard motorbike accident, I was really lucky because I didnt break my neck and apparently from outside it wasnt so big, but inside all my upper body musculoskeletal system went to something as chronic sock.
Since then I have tried a lot of technics and I must say I went to the Kung Fu retreat quite well but still with chronic pain in my back, chest and neck.
I have spent six weeks training Kung fu and Chi Kung in Nam Yang and now after one week of rest I can say I feel better than ever, my pain is very close to dissapear, my muscles went out of sock and they have more energy and elasticity than ever in my life.
Definitely Nam Yang is a place where you can change your life if you really want.
Thank you very much Master Iain and instructors for the input of knowledge and energy to apply it you are giving to the world.
We will see again soon.
Carlos.
