Kuusamon Tropiikki is located in Kuusamo by the Petajalampi pond. Spa hotel is only fifteen minutes away by car or on the Ski Bus from Ruka Ski Resort. Spa hotel offers recreational services for everyone and hotel has one of the regions' best conference venues.
An OK spa which is in need of reparation, quite a lot of areas are very worn. A strange thing is that there is no cafeteria or bar at the pool area, that would be nice. There is a normal sauna and a steam sauna, the steam one is mixed for women and men.

Welcome into the Arms of Mother Nature! Wellbeing and ecotourism within the realm of the Oulanka National Park. Accommodation in our cosy wilderness hotel. No TV sets, radios or newspapers, only nature and its sounds. Comfortable accommodation in double, twin or single rooms. Twin rooms with balcony are perfect for family of 4. In addition to this there are smaller rooms with double beds. Activities all year round. Our programs are true ecotourism, bringing together conservation, local communities and sustainable use of wilderness.
We came here as part of an Exodus trip called Winter Wilderness Experience. Great week and we tried several new experiences such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, quinzee building and much more. Aldo a base to visit other experiences such as dog sledging and reindeer farm. Food is amazing as are all the staff

RukaTonttu apartments are located in a beautiful setting next to lake Talvijarvi. Distance to the nearest lift is 100 meters and 600 meters to Ruka pedestrian village. The apartments are well-equipped with e.g. kitchen, sauna and a fire place and final cleaning and bed linen are included in the price. There is a parking lot area, where each apartment has in use one car heating post. The cosy RukaTonttu restaurant serves next door. Please, notice that this site concerns only RukaTonttu apartments in blocks A, B and C. RukaTonttu hotel/restaurant is located in the next building and is a separate company.
We spent a long weekend at Rukatonttu early February. RukaTonttu is located only a five minute walk from the Ruka center with all restaurants and services. Peacefully located by a lake you can either stay in the hotel or in apartments. We had a very nice, clean and cosy hotel room in the basement with an entrance practically out on the lake. Outside you also have the possibility to swim in the lake around the year (yes it's cold). If you ski the nearest lift is only some 50 meters from the hotel and if Nordic skiing is of interest it can be done on the lake. We will definitely return. Worth mentioning is the very nice personnel managed by the very owner Matti.

Ein schönes Hotel mit leicht verstaubtem Charme, allerdings renoviert in schöner Lage am See. Große Zimmer, sauber, ausreichend Parkplätze vorhanden. Frühstück war gut. Sehr netter und freundlicher Service.

Ollilan Lomamajat has eight well-equipped cottages located around the shore of Lake Valijarvi. All the cottages have their own sauna, which is heated with wood. Restaurant Juomuskota is great for weddings, family gatherings, birthdays and meetings.
This property hides important information from its booking page and charges you extra to upgrade if you want on the spot. I booked this property from booking.com and it claims that it has "private bathroom" and posts pictures of shower and sauna with washing basin that makes a wrong impression that it is a normal bathroom. But when we arrived we noticed that there is no proper toilet and instead it has a compost toilet across the yard like 20 meters from the cottage with no running water (no flush). We were shocked because we had previously booked similar cottages with normal bathrooms, and we were so bummed that this cottage's pictures and information were misleading us. The owner told us he could upgrade us to the next level cottage and we paid extra 20 euros for one night for it. If you want linens it costs 8,5 euros (per person) and if you want towels too, the cost will be 12,5 euros per person - which is quite high price in comparison to similar places (e.g. 7,5 euros for both towel and linen in our previous cottage). They also charge a cost for cleaning if you do not clean after yours. We could find long hairs from previous residents in the cottage. I have been in similar types of cottages before and they had better quality/price ratio. The owner did not apologize for any inconvenienece about the missing information and kept saying that he does everything absolutely right but I talked to booking.com and they said owner was responsible for misleading information. I am not the only customer who fell in this trap! Long story short, I would avoid this place becuase of the total high price, hiding important relevant information, and the attitude of the owner. There are so many alternatives in the region, I would choose one of them and definitely NOT this one.

Hotel Kuusamon portti is located by Lake Iijarvi, 15 km south of Kuusamo town. There is only a 40-minute drive from the hotel to Ruka Holiday Resort. The hotel offers 8 rooms for 2-4 people, and two spacious cabins in the yard (for 6 and 10 people), including fireplace and sauna. We have 40-48 beds altogether.Coffee, snacks and meals are available in the hotel restaurant. Our restaurant serves a menu inspired by Finnish, Dutch and Korean cuisine. The Kuusamon portti area is surrounded with lakes and forest. In the vicinity there is opportunity to go cycling, canoeing, cross-country skiing or fishing. We also organize summer and winter safaris. In summer you can go river rafting or on ATV safaris, canoeing trips or fishing trips. In winter there are snowmobile safaris, ice fishing, and husky and reindeer rides available. The hotel staff is always ready to help you and make your stay a success.
Although we only stayed for one night (New Year’s eve) during the Corona-Crisis, we were pleasantly surprised about the good mood the hotel manager and his wife were in. We felt at home immediately. We had the choice of 6 (!!!) languages to speak: Finnish, Dutch, English, German, Japanese or Korean. The room (apartment) we were in was tidy, warm and clean. The food (Dinner & Breakfast) tasted very good. The surrounding woodland invites for a long walk in peace and silence. No stress whatsoever. I don’t understand some of the reviews on this page. Maybe these people have rated the wrong hotel, because I couldn’t find any of the complaints mentioned fitting to the one we were in.

Aurinkorinne apartments are located in the spectacular lookout by the lifts and the slopes of Lake Talvijärvi. The services of Ruka village are within the walking distance, approx. 400 meters.
This is a beautiful, well equipped group of ski lodges with great ski-in access, good storage, drying rooms etc… However, we booked a 2 Bedroom lodge as a family of 5 (6,6,8) as part of a TUI Lapland trip. This lodge was not great for a family, there just wasn’t enough space, beds. The coach dropped us at the main pick-up drop off point. Which was about a 200m walk from the accommodation down a snow covered icy road. We commandeered a couple of kids plastic toboggans loaded our suitcases and headed down the hill, completely out of control and crashing into a big pile on snow at the bottom of the hill. This was a great fun start to the holiday for us. But, is you had any sort of mild mobility issues, or a single parent with kids, this would have been a real struggle. When we got inside only the 2 twin beds in the main bedroom were made up we had to make up, the room supposedly slept 6 people, but no idea where. There was only enough bedding pillows and towels for 4, we told the TUI rep who quickly sorted us some more bedding and towels, but then struggled for an hour to make up the bunk beds. We were then a bit confused where the extra 2 people (1 in our case) was meant to sleep. The sofa was a sofa, you could take off the pillows and use it to sleep on, but not really make it up as a bed. The bottom bunk was extra wide, so the kids shared the bottom bunk with one on the top not great but it worked. The daily walk up and down to Ruka village was again great fun if you have the ability. The drying cabinet was a great positive and really helped. As is the case in most accommodation, there’s never enough hanging space for coats, towels and clothes as a family of 5. Great location and accommodation for ski holiday for 2 adults 2 children or 3 adults max. Wouldn’t choose this accommodation for a family Lapland trip. Photo is from the balcony.

...and then drive the 20mins North and enjoy the log cabin. There is everything you need in that mini house and we loved it. Especially the wood stove and the sauna were great. We could have stayed longer, it was so romantic amidst the Lappi winter wonderland.

8 Cottages and 7 rooms in the main building. All the cottages have electric sauna and free Wi-Fi. Accommodation is located right next to lake Talvijarvi. From the lake you can find nearest cross country tracks and snow mobile routes, nearest ski lift is Talvijarvi, which is on the other side of lake Talvijarvi, Skibus is running next to accommodation. Summer time nearest hiking tracks are just few hundred meters.
Good location, quiet place and nice cottage, clean and good facilities. Kitchen is well equipped. You can find reindeer near the cottage. It is a good stay to visit Oulanka National Park and ski zone.

In year 2012 renovated RukaSuites apartments provide different sizes apartments that are made especially for the needs of an active family. Apartments are located in walking distance from the slopes and ski lifts.
Signing in was easy, received a text message with all needed information a day before, so you didn’t need to go via reception. We were able to get the room an hour earlier per request from reception, very nice. Parking was easy, parking garage under the hotel, but it was quite expensive, 105€ for 7 nights. It was biting -25C when we arrived, and the apartment was really cold. The wind howled through the windows and the cold kept creeping in, the bedroom was not warmer than +17C even if the heater was on fully. Also, the bathroom floor heating must have been broken or completely missing as the floor was really cold. The kids had the warmest room close to the corridor, but then again, the noises from outside travelled into the flat. You had to have your ski-boots in the apartment, so the stomping sound when walking back and forth to the ski-room in the basement travelled into the apartment. The staircase is with stone floors, and very slippery. Also the partying sounds travelled between the flights, so a couple of nights were quite noisy. Finding your way to the ski-room was another thing, there were not many signs, and one in the basement led you in the wrong direction completely. The ski lockers are quite small, you could only fit max 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards in one locker. One locker is reserved per apartment, and with codelock, remember to bring your reading glasses along! The Ski-Inn apartments are in the middle of pedestrian Ruka-village, with everything necessary around. Bigger markets like Citymarket/Prisma/Alko can be found in Kuusamo, 25min drive away. A small spa can be found in Holiday Club Kuusamo, but our kids thought it was quite boring, as there were only one small slide and no outside pool. The Ruka slopes are very nice, something for all ages and levels. The lousy level of signage continued in the slopes. There was maybe one sign in the beginning of the slope telling you which number it is, but it did not continue further on, and on a cloudy day you could not really tell were you were. And there were quite many signs telling you the name of the place, but it was not clearly mentioned in the ski-map, maybe this was for hikers in the offseason. Ruka is a nice smaller place a days drive (12h) away from Helsinki. Enough slopes and places to see to spend a week. Plenty of ski tracks if you prefer countryside skiing.
