Reviewed By Mika VGood place if you are looking for a hotel without any extra services. One night does not cost much but you only get a bed and bath. The staff was very friendly. Parking was free. There is no wifi. Breakfast was available for extra fee. Some services are near - bar, groceries and pizza.

Reviewed By leffexI have been to Hotel Sommelo again, this is my third time. The hotel is very convenient if you visit Kouvola or Kuusankoski. It is only a short distance from Kouvola, but the hotels in Kouvola is much more expensive. Sommelo is rather modest,but the room was nice and the staff friendly. The breakfast is OK! The reception is closed at the evenings, so you need a door code to come in.

Reviewed By mWriteKirjokivi Manor - Kirjokiven kartano in Finnish was designed by Eliel Saarinen, who designed Helsinki Railway station also. It was built late 19th century by Rudolf Elving, who was CEO of the Woikoski company. Therefore there are several gas bottles as decoration. Manor was his summer home and saw its glory times early 20th century. Later it was owned by city of Kouvola and worked as a summer camp before current owners bought it and started the endless restoring. Beautifully restored with good taste, however there is no original furniture left. It is located ca 40km from Kouvola, next to Repovesi Nature Park. We were warmly welcomed by the waitress, who also checked us in. Our room was in the of the side buildings, in an old warehouse "Aitta". Room had two separate beds, own bathroom, garderobe and a minibar. It has an air-conditioning, which is very nice during hot summer and gives a possibility for good night sleep. Breakfast was good, with porridge as a hot component and hot tea or coffee. Orange juice was very light, most likely summer cook had read the mixing instructions wrongly. There was also bread and pastry with normal toppings like ham and cheese. Generally I could summarise breakfast with word "healthy". At the breakfast the old Madam of the Manor was present and told interesting stories about history. As the manor is located next to Nature Park, you can make nice hiking trips there. Location by the lake enables water activities, however the rowing boat and SUP boards are rented. Disc golf with 9 holes on the premises is free to use. Sauna is also available against a fee. Summary: Highly recommend to get time machine feeling for old times.

Terrible end for a Nice holiday
Reviewed By janne pWe were returning from a nice car-holiday with a family and decided to stay one more night along the route home. We booked this place via internet and stated in the reservation that we would arrive late. The picture of the house/cottage was nice on the advertisement. We arrived as we had announced Late night. The place was dark, deserted. No-one there to hive keyes. Provided phone numbers were not in use, even there was info that place is available 24h. Finally got help from local resident, who went and woke the keeper, who was in sleep. Then we got no apologozises, But a yelling and shouting in front of our family, that we are too Late. Managed finally to get the cottage, Which was not the one they had on the net Pages, no running water, cottage damp and smelling. Stayed night and leaved at first thing at morning. A nightmare of a place!

In addition to our excellent staff, the Frans & Rose bistro, three saunas and hot tubs, and a gym are in your service. Vaakuna's meeting and event facilities are the most adaptable in the city. The hotel has been renewed completely during 2020-2021.
Nice weekend getaway with family
Reviewed By Excursion557138Extremely friendly staff welcomed us when we arrived. We had a room with sauna. The room was spacious and clean. Great size for a family. Would have wished a curtain or something that divides the queen bed from the rest of the room for some privacy. All in all the hotel was well kept and clean. The iWall game area was appreciated by the whole family. Hotel restaurant was pretty small and you needed to make a reservation in advance to be sure to get a table. Food was good and there where good options to choose from. Nice variety of vegetarian dishes too.
