Overall - Very Good

Fantastic position overlooking the sea at the quiet end of the front, comfortable rooms, great facilities - if I had to make one negative comment it would be regarding the sound proofing between rooms as there isn’t any whatsoever and typically for any hotel there is the usual thing of family groups congregating on one balcony drinking until 4am But I’d definitely go back

A different hotel in the picturesque village of Santillana del Mar. Hotel Cuevas combines the charm of this medieval village with the cotemporary character in its rooms. The goal is that all our customers leave the hotel with the feeling having lived a unique experience.

Authentic, modern hospitality. Staff went overboard to welcome us and make our trip memorable, comfortable and special.

Good but dated

This hotel is located in an excellent location. It has a very good service and large rooms with a sea view. Marvelous. The only issues is that the rooms are dated. Need some intensive renovation. Anyhow it is highly recommended. Very good value for the price.

Nice hotel

Reviewed By TravelLovers2

The inside of the hotel is modern, much different to what you picture it to be by looking at the outside. The location is good, but we had to take a taxi to the Palacio de la Magdalena and from there call another taxi to go to the center. We had breakfast included in our rate. It was very good and had a lot of choices. The most interesting thing about this hotel is how to reach the underground parking. You have to put your car inside a car elevator that you can reach by using your keycard. They let you know which floor to park in. They have 3, ours was -2. Once you enter the car, you press the number and the elevator starts functioning. Our rental car sensors started going crazy. Once the door opens, you enter the parking area. Same instructions for leaving except that you don't need your keycard to get out. It was not difficult nor creepy as some have mentioned. We found the instructions easy to follow. A new experience.

Decent but not luxurious

Reviewed By Dan B

The hotel is decent. The mattress could certainly be better however. All the staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was good but the pastries weren’t the best. The room looked a bit dated, brown and leather style but all was functional. I would have appreciated a bar of soap and other amenities. The hotel was very clean. No kettle in the bedroom was a bit of a shame but the cafe gave us a jug and a kettle was sent to the room in the end.

Beautiful hotel, stunning location, poor staff attitude

Reviewed By deeintheculdesac

Having spent five weeks travelling throughout Spain, and having experienced first class welcome and service at every establishment from the smallest roadside cafe, to five star hotels and restaurants, we were extremely disappointed by the "welcome" (or lack of!!) that we received when we arrived at the Gran Hotel. No eye contact from the male receptionist, a brusque, mumbled "hello", and even though my command of Spanish is far better than his of English, he insisted on trying to communicate in English. We were issued with key cards, absolutely no information given to us about facilities at hotel, eyebrow raising and pen tapping when I asked my husband which dining slots he'd prefer as they had to be pre-booked, and we even had to ask where the lift was - a pointed finger directed somewhere behind us and a sharply uttered "there" were all we got. Room was adequate - nothing special and no extras. Cheap toiletries and an expensive minibar. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were fabulous. It was a really excellent experience and the food was wonderful - very, very highly recommended. Another redeeming factor was breakfast the following morning which I must admit was first-class, apart from the female member of staff who was very hostile and unhelpful and barked at me to get out of the way so she could adjust the coffee machine which had developed a fault. In mitigation, she was run ragged as she seemed to be doing everything on her own, but was joined half way through by a very friendly and helpful male colleague which was a blessing. If only they could train their staff that they'll never get the opportunity again to make the best first impression, I'd have given this establishment 5 stars and we'd love to return, BUT, we really don't want to risk being greeted as a nuisance rather than a welcome and valued guest.

Silken Coliseum Hotel

The Silken Coliseum is located in a newly built building with a unique façade and modern facilities. It is located on the site of a former cinema, which gives a special charm to our rooms, cafeteria, reception, restaurant and halls for events and celebrations, whose names honour film classics. Our central hotel in Santander is ideal for business travellers, though its excellent location, right in the heart of the city, also makes the hotel perfect for getting to know the elegant streets, emblematic buildings and green gardens of the capital of Cantabria. We have five function rooms that can either be panelled off or joined together to become the Coliseum Ballroom, with a capacity of up to 250 people. In addition to a café with extended hours, our hotel has a private garage so you can avoid the cumbersome task of having to park in the city centre. The hotel is also easily accessible by all means of transport: the rail and bus stations are just five minutes away on foot and the Santander Airport is a 15-minute drive away. .
