Magical stay

Reviewed By Angela R

My husband, our Labrador and I stopped for one night and wish we could have stayed longer. The Mas is a unique place and we were made to feel completely at home. Our dog was welcome everywhere and he obviously enjoyed himself. We had a super comfy bedroom and Milo was given his own bed, he accompanied us to supper which was delicious and breakfast the following morning was amazing, so much choice, a true Catalan feast ! We are very much looking forward to a return visit and thank everyone at the Mas for their kindness.

Bassegoda Park

Bassegoda Park is a first category camping and bungalow park located in Albanyà (Alt Empordà), next to the natural park Parc d'Espais d'Interès Natural de l'Alta Garrotxa, at just 7 km to the beautiful medieval town of Sant Llorenç de la Muga and only at 25 km from Figueres, the city of the famous painter Salvador Dalí. Its unique location, next to the River Muga, allows you to be in permanent contact with the nature and to practice many different activities such as adventure sports, fishing, hunting, hiking, horse riding, four-wheel drive, etc. Moreover we are the mountain bike information point of the area and one of the long way hikes GR-11 passes next to our campsite. This tremendous landscape full of peace, that represents one of the most virgin areas of the Empordà, will make your experience unique for both adults and children.

Didn’t match expectations

Too expensive for what is offered. Activities are poor, specially for Children under 8. Bungalows are old and not really tiddy. Wifi is expensive (additional cost) and terrible bad connection. Swimming pool is too crowed (problaby due to poor activities offer). Half Board is pathetic: only pastries offered for breakfast and lunch/dinner for children is every day the same (rice, nuggets, beefsteak & fries and ice cream)... very healthy! Location is great, surrended by nature, close to river and good to explore astronomy.

Sucio y con mal olor

Reviewed By Cruela D

No volveremos. Una pena porque el sitio podría ser muy bonito si estuviera mínimamente limpio, y más en época covid.....

Amazing location with beautiful sunrises

Reviewed By 7laetitian

I had read some negative reviews about Mas del Mar, so I felt a bit nervous about our booking there but in the end it was a wonderful stay. We had a suite on the first floor with access to the terrace which was amazing as I could go outside in the morning and watch the sunrise over the sea and then go back inside to sleep a little more! The location really is the best thing - near the beach and near the river. It's a beautiful, quiet location. You can hear the waves washing onto the beach and there are lots of birds around the pond in the garden. The house is rustic and full of charm. In the evenings the fire was lit in the lounge and we enjoyed sitting by the fire and relaxing. Our bedroom was very comfortable, cosy and warm and the bed was comfortable. The shower was clean and had lots of hot water with good water pressure. The walls at Mas del Mar are VERY thin, so you can hear what your neighbours are doing as well as hearing people walking around above you. I think it's worth those inconveniences though. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't pay for breakfast - we took our own food which we ate on the terrace. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but the staff will give you hot water if you take your own tea and they have a coffee vending machine downstairs too. I wish we could have stayed for longer.

Sa Perafita

In the incomporable region of Cap de Creus, located between the upper sea, the lower sea and the vineyard which grows exultantly caressed by the tramuntana wind, sits the Mas Perafita. Built in the 14th century and restored in 2004 by the family Martin Faixó, as part of the program to recover the vineyards of the Alt Empordà, the Mas Perafita houses the wine cellar where these singular wines, due to the particuliar character of this land, are elaborated.

Good customer service in short supply

Reviewed By Explore20986919633

Signed off the road as a vineyard, hotel and restaurant, we thought it was worth stopping to explore. What a mistake. After waiting patiently and looking at the wines in the store while the proprietor dealt with other clients, our conversation went as follows. “Can we taste the wines?” “No, you have to have come at 11am and make a reservation.” “Can we get any food or tapas from the restaurant?” “No.” “Can we buy some wines?” “No, the shop is closed” “Can we do anything?” “No. Good day.” Maybe when you are so busy in August, you don’t need to be courteous or helpful to individual customers. But basic politeness costs nothing. And if you have a customer who speaks impeccable Spanish, it’s really quite rude and patronising to reply to them in English. Good customer service costs absolutely nothing and would have garnered a much better review. We would have been quite interested to come back another day but Dr. No put paid to that. So when you see the sign as you drive to or from Cadaques, keep going. There are plenty of other vineyards in the Empordà where the proprietors like to say ‘Si’.

This place has been restored to a high standard and the host is very friendly and helpful. The location is tranquil and we enjoyed visiting the village where there is a restaurant serving local and other food. Full of character

The lovely pool welcomed us after a hot day on our walking tour. A decent meal was cooked for us in the evening, with a great outlook over the garden. The price was sensible for what it was. They were able to cope with a specific dietary requirement. Breakfast was outstanding. Our room was one of two in a wooden annex; like a posh shed(!). Still very comfortable and quiet. Unusually in Spain it seemed, a fridge, along with kettle and beverages, was provided. A refreshing change from the usual corporate mediocrity of most accommodation.

Can Massa

It is an old peasant farmer´s house formed by the main house and several stables and granaries that surround the inner courtyard, now reconverted in the owners home. There is a porch and table-tennis, badminton and unicicle can be practised. The house has six rooms, two drawing-rooms for the clients, one of them with fireplace, music, television set and parlour games. It keeps some old tools which are part of the decoration. It is situated between the regions of the Baix Empordà and the Gironès, at the foot of the massif of the Gavarres and 20 km far from the beach.

L’Emporda gem!

Reviewed By kcTripping

Can Massa is a great place to stay. Hosts, Josep & Carme, and daughter, Anna, were welcoming & knowledgeable about things to see & do in the area. The farm house is comfortable, has all the necessary services & there is easy access to everything in L’Emporda. Plus, Carme puts out a yummy breakfast with lots of variety (fruit, yogurt, cereal, sweet breads, toasting bread, eggs, meats, cheeses, juice, tea and lots of coffee with hot milk!). There is lots of parking in a secluded lot beside the farm house. It has some trees to tuck under & ample area to turn around. Farm house area is enclosed behind traditional looking stone wall with locked gate, so very safe & secure. Only issues I had... Couldn’t get shower head to stay in fixture, but no biggie - just pick up hose & rinse. Wifi is available, but given the stone walls, you might need to get closer to office to pick it up. Wouldn’t have given up my lovely east facing terrace to get better connection (spectacular mornings & great afternoon siestas). Not when there were so many great spots to plant myself - comfy chair in 2nd floor seating area, shady 1st floor trunk outside office & relaxing deck in courtyard! Definitely a spot I’d return to & recommend to others.

The hostess doesn't speak English, but that wasn't a problem at all. She must be the kindest soul in Spain, and have a big heart. A lovely little place to stay and perfect service for our stay. When we left we even got some dried flowers as a present. :-)
