We did the Via Ferrata La Hermida with Oscar in late March, and loved every minute! After emailing various companies Oscar gave the most professional and prompt response, and answered every question of mine over the next month. Our group of 4 loved the VF La Hermida, even though 2 are rock climbers (they were never bored) and 2 people afraid of heights (they made it over the Tibetan bridge and scarier parts with Oscar's encouragement). We 100% recommend doing this route with a guide, because he had extra equipment for the Bridges and also the way (especially back down) is not very clear. Thanks Oscar!!

The Cueva Covalanas is amazing. The painting inside are about 20,000 years old and they are wonderful. We booked online to ensure a place amongst the seven participants in the tour. Victoria, the tour guide, was excellent.

Cave of El Castillo

The Cave of El Castillo contains a very well preserved cave art ensemble and an archaeological deposit with a stratigraphic sequence dating back from the Lower Paleolithic Era (about 150,000 years ago) to the Bronze Age (about 6,000 years ago).

We were a very small group and the guide was very patient in explaining the details of the drawings and the rock formations. Very informative. I had no problems with the online purchase of tickets....I had to guess that their requirement of a DNI was the city I lived in.........it let me continue, so I guess that was right. Careful to wear shoes that have rubber soles, because it is very slippery. A few of the other members in our party wore leather soled shoes. They said to prepare for cold inside the cave, but I found it very humid and warm.

Beach is accessible direct from the hotel and is clean. Water was cold (in May) but a couple of people braved it. No shops so no rubbish strewn about, nice sun trap and sheltered from the wind.

Playa de La Arnia

This is one of my favourite Beaches in the city. It is located in a very appealling rocky environment, which is amazing either when the tide is low or when the swell is Brusque and intense. La Arnía is a golden and soft sandy beach with clear blue water. There is a good bar and restaurant over the cliff. You can park your car there and walk down a small path. It is definitely a must in your list if you happen to be in the north of Spain. It is great for photos.

Leave the CA141 at Loredo or Galizano and take back road to Langre then follow beach (playa) signs to cliff top car park to be treated to an unspoiled terrific view of this beautiful Cantabrian bay. Lots of steps down from car park to beach but manageable for families and the abundant surfers enjoying rolling breakers. Virtually no on site facilities so bring your own pic nic and drinks and just relax. Loads of space and lovely sandy beach! Great location to cycle to.

Peninsula of Magdalena

The palace itself was not open for a visit, therefore we concentrated on the park itself. First we took a ride in the little tourist train. We received some information regarding the park and the castle, available only in Spanish and then we walked around on foot. We paid a visit to the penguins (they were hiding in their caves), seals and sea lions and then went to see 2 of the ships that conquered the New World. There are plenty of things to do if one wants to spend a full day: tennis courts, beach, horse riding or just walking around the peninsula and enjoying its beautiful scenery.

Playa Somo

Reviewed By pilipili2009 - Anvers

Beautiful sandy beach. Its advatnages compared to others is its size, there is always sapce even on crowded days. Also great for those who like walking. The nicest walk is towards the playa de El Puntal (towards Santader). At the tip, you are less than 1000 m from Santander. Great surf as well, and again, as the beach is large, never too overcrowded on the waves.

One of my favorite Beaches for Surfing and mucking about in the dunes. Lots of parking, a couple of cafes, lifeguards, good surf breaks, boards and wetsuits to rent (try ESS and Special Surf - very friendly). The only thing it lacks are public toilets.
