We ate here with a small group from an RV rally. One of our friends recommended this place, that frankly, was not all that impressive upon arrival, but once inside, WOW!The ribs were very tender with a good smoky flavor. The brisket was probably the best we've ever had. I asked about burnt ends, and one of the owners, Kelvin, brought out some for us to try. They would almost melt in your mouth, and I could have eaten many more of them. We also tried the lemon pie that they made, and it was as delicious as the barbecue!

Every holiday we crave that "one" memorable dining experience far from the madding crowd and this was the one. A genuine restaurant with food prepared with matching passion. Stripped back. No frills. Just perfection on a plate and everywhere else in the place. Fine dining it may not be but there are few finer dining experiences to be had. Thank you to the waiting staff and chef who made this our most enjoyable holiday experience this trip.

We made reservations through Open Table via the HPLEatery website. Everything was confirmed with the exception of knowing if wine was available. I tried calling both numbers on the website but was never able to reach anyone. My wife later learned from another of their websites that wine was available, so all was set.When its 97 degrees outside and I walk into a building and suddenly feel warmer, I have an immediate sense for concern, especially if that building is a restaurant where I will be seated for the next couple of hours. The hostess had a puzzled look on her face when she was looking at our booking and asked, who I presumed to be the manager, for assistance. They did indeed have our reservation, but it was for a â2 topâ in the BAR. This information was not provided to us by Open Table. We did not see an immediate problem with that idea, so we accepted. Unfortunately, we stepped into the bar and found that the â2 topâ was not much bigger than a large pizza and is more suited for a bowl of beer nuts and a cocktail glass. The operators of this place should know full well that people are not making dinner reservations to sit at a table meant for cocktails nor should it be offered as such. There were several others who were in our same predicament but opted out of the arrangement and either left or were put on a waiting list. The bar area is not much bigger than our master closet at home and was warmer than the reception area. The coziness of the room along with the occasional noise from the frozen drink blender makes private conversation impossible. You will also be forced to listen to others who are not so private have conversation on their phones or barking orders to Siri. Montgomery may be a spot in the road but for the love of all things pure and good, if you are so important that you cannot divorce yourself from your phone for the duration of a meal, stay home. Men, unless you are eating at Sonic or a beachside brew house, flip flops will never ever be acceptable footwear in a dining room. If reservations are required, so is proper attire, if you donât know what that means, then you should not be at an establishment that requires reservations. Aside from the room temperature, the bar would be suitable for an appetizer and a drink but not for dinner. I would not recommend Open Table for making reservations at HPLEatery due to the risk of being placed in the bar. That means a call would be in order but that also means HPLEatery would have to answer their phone.The food was ok. Iâm not quite sure what the ranting and raving reviews are based on but for a spot in Montgomery, it is ok. Although, certainly not worth the $192.00 we dropped on the meal and a bottle of local wine.Crab cakes are light and what is to be expected. You will not find lumps of crab, but the smooth texture is well balanced between crab and herbs and not burdened with a greasy crust. The accompanying sauce was supposed to be a beurre blanc. The good thing is that the sauce was actually pretty good but didnât come off as a beurre blanc because of the absence of acidity. Iâm no fan of capers but this sauce was delicate enough to compliment the crab cakes without overpowering. A couple of orders would make a good meal. The spinach strawberry salad is called their signature and I can see why. The components were ratioed well and were not swimming in dressing. The strawberries were USDA #1. Ripe, red and sweet. My wife had the Sea Bass which was presented with a layer of crab on top. Interesting presentation and well prepared. I apparently had someone elseâs Rib Eye since I order mine medium rare and the one I cut into was well past the medium stage. I grew up with not much food on the table so whatever was in front of us we ate, which I tried to do. The flavor was good, it was simply over cooked for my taste. Both entrees were served with haricot verts and mashed potatoes. My wife had the advantage with the fish. The beans and potatoes were prepared as they should be and had good flavor and texture. Unfortunately, my steak was served on top of a portion of the beans and potatoes making them taste like steak. The juice from the steak eventually diluted the mashed potatoes to a melted milkshake consistency. Having the sides on a separate platter would have been the thing to do but then again, there was no space for a saltshaker much less another plate. The temperature in the room and the growing noise level were not appealing for having desert so we opted out. Leslie was serving those of us in the bar as well as making drinks for the rest of the diners. The proverbial âone armed paper hangerâ has nothing on her. She managed without skipping a beat or looking like she was under stress unlike other wait staff. The manager seamed to be stressed every time he came in the bar. That appearance detracts from what should be a pleasant experience. So, unless there is a fire, people donât want to see staff who are stressed out due to being over booked, over heated, understaffed, etc. If I go back, I will probably play it safe and stop by in person to make the reservation and to make sure the air conditioner is in full working order.Thank you for sharing your experience in such a comprehensive manner. We only have one reason to exist...that is to provide each guest with an amazing meal and a joy filled experience! Unfortunately, we were not open this time last year and could not have predicted that our amazing success and overwhelming crowds would also place a burden on the AC system that would create a discomfort to our guests but that is changing. No matter what it takes, we will use your comments to fuel our efforts and we WILL address all of your concerns. THANK YOU for taking the time to help us become better. We live locally, so it's nice to have an upscale dinner spot without the drive. Service is professional and gracious. Beautiful lake views. Food is always great! We love the spinach artichoke dip or smoked trout for an appetizer. Well executed steaks and pork chops. Sea bass is also a favorite. Decent wine selection & prices. Chefs' table can be fun with kids, although I find the lighting really bright so prefer normal dining room on the regular. We drove 45 minutes to try this restaurant because it had good reviews and sounded good. We were disappointed. First, the floor was sticky and it was very warm inside. Despite ceiling fans, we were all uncomfortably hot. The food was just average. I ordered my steak medium well, and it was delivered rare. The waiter didnât stick around to ask if our steaks were cooked properly, and didnât return timely, so I had to flag down a hostess to take it back. My husband and sister-in-laws steaks were good, and the sides were generous, but average. The best things we had were the delicious hot rolls, and our cocktails! The âlive musicâ was awful. The man was out of tune.We will not return!

I enjoy the pinto bean pot. The last two times we ate there I asked for moist (fatty) brisket, both times I took it back and showed them that there was no fat at all on the slices, very lean and kind of dry. They did exchange the meat but still very lean. They must split the brisket at the main store and just use the moist side to make their chopped beef. Wish they could have the whole brisket at the store so you could have your choice of lean or moist.We appreciate any and all feedback and I do apologize that you did not receive exactly what you wanted. However, your assumption is false. All briskets are kept whole and trimmed and sliced to order this includes Lean sliced beef, moist sliced beef, and chopped beef. I hope in the future you will give us another chance to prove what we are capable of.

We stopped here for breakfast during a recent visit to the area. The place was very busy but we were seated quickly. The staff up front were all young and not very friendly. The waitress was excellent and very friendly. She was fast and efficient! All the food we had was awesome! And very reasonably priced! Highly recommend!

Recently went to Phil's while passing through Montgomery. We had gone by it several times over the years but decided to give it a try. The BBQ chopped beef sandwich was excellent and came with a very large order of fries. There was enough food for more than one meal. My wife got a burger which was also very good. The service was friendly and quick.

If you are in Walden on Sunday, don't miss the brunch! Excellent selection, magnificent views, great service and so affordable! We always take our guests here, and recently had my mother's 90th birthday party there. I'd give this place 6 stars for brunch!We've only had dinner there a couple of times, not nearly as impressed with the food or prices during the week. But the staff is always top notch!
