We booked for lunch to break a day of scenic driving. After being shown to our table by a helpful young waiter we were then ignored for what seemed an age (there were only two other tables occupied at the time). Only the senior waitress, who gave the impression she really didn't want to be there, was allowed to bring us menus and take drink orders. We ordered the set lunch menu. While not expecting spectacular ingredients from a sub €20 menu, being served tired reheated vegetables (they must have been from the previous evening) hiding under a fillet of sea bass resulted in a flat and dull dish. Also the lettuce with our simple starters was dissolving from having been left dressed for far to long. At least the nougat glacé ended the meal on a relative high.On a more positive note, the large dining room with wood panel ceiling is most attractively decorated with well chosen matching colours. The wine list alone, extensive with reasonable mark ups, will be reason alone for wine lovers to go.

Ferme Auberge du Veygalier

Accueil sympathique.

Like many of the places of the Cevennes they have a strong emphasis on natural and quality items. It is a creperie (although I never tried the crepes), but they also have a wide assortment of ice cream dishes, which range from very simple (a few scoops) to large ornate sundaes and parfaits. I stopped by there twice while I was in Florac and visited both times! It's definitely worth a stop, and it's in one of the main squares in the city, in a more touristy area, so it's hard to miss!

Had this on a shortlist from a Lonely Planet review & first meal we had on the first visit to Florac. Review summed it up perfectly - nondescript building in a secondary position & nothing special inside - a very plain room. But the food!! We went for the 21E menu (also one for !4ish). Very based on local ingredients & some really inventive dishes. We had a starter of Croustillant filled with slices of apple & melted Pélardon , the stunning local goat's cheese, followed by melt in the mouth Lamb Shanks with preserved lemon. Carafe of red all made for an excellent meal.Would appear to be one very friendly guy doing front-of-house & one lady in the kitchen. They worked hard! The place was full & turning away people by just after one. Seemed to be a very local crowd too which is always a good sign.Really can't see why this restaurant is not higher up the ratings. For a wonderfully cooked meal at a very reasonable price it's hard to beat.We saved it up for our last 'special' meal in Florac - only to discover they'd had to shut unexpectedly that evening. Ended up spending a lot more in a restaurant we didn't like half as much....

Restaurant Tables de la Fontaine

Denis is a wizard. We teased him from the first night, calling him the "Warrior Chef" as he had a rolled bandana around his forehead. He is one amazing cook! The dishes are not only delicious, but works of art. Our mains were paintings in food, almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. But, eat we did, and loved every mouthful. As a bad reviewer, I'd tell you what we had, but I have forgotten. What I have NOT forgotten is the drooling sense I have when I think of this lovely restaurant with such amazingly good food. His lovely wife, Veronique, is your waitress. She effortlessly serves everyone, doing her ballet act from table to table. Wine? She recommends terrific wines. Dessert? You're full? Oh, but this is small and so good. Just a bite or two to settle your stomachs. Ah, there we went again, down that rabbit's hole called dessert. We were lucky to arrive when the inner unroofed courtyard was the dining room. Blooming roses, climbing vines in bloom also (I'm not a botanist - they had lovely flowers, that's all I know), a fountain to insinuate calm into your frenzied tourists' minds. So, not just a dinner. A dinner of the taste and of the senses.I miss it already.

L Adonis

Our favorite restaurant was closed for the evening, so off we went to the Adonis. So glad we did! For us, a walk across the village, where we were hesitantly stopped by 3 Nederlanders asking us if we knew "Where the Adonis restaurant is". Well, we certainly did! So, we 2 led 3 more to our common restaurant, with laughing on all parts. a good beginning, don't you think? The rest of the evening did not disappoint. Dinner was an appetizer of seared foie gras, for which my husband was deliriously happy, and I actually got a bite or two, also. For our mains, I had scallops and he had (guess) a beef filet. Both were perfectly cooked. The scallops were seared on the outside and still translucent on the inside - perfect - and the filet was rare, as we both like it. Forks were furiously flying, with the side dishes being delicious, also. Risotto for me, potatoes for him. Much too much food, but oh well, dessert did rear its lovely head, and it, too, was delicious.Good wine, 2 demis (I know, I know - a LITER of wine for 2? Shameful!) of a Catalonian white.A lovely restaurant, with good waitstaff. Definitely not cheap, but not too dear, either. If you're in Florac, make reservations for a night of splurging. Our total was 120 euros. If you aren't wine pigs, you can cut this down a bit. But, then, why?
