We are a family owned business! We offer sit down, take out, and catering! Now accepting online orders.
Stopped in for a monthly group Birthday get-together. This is an order and pay at a front counter kind of place. Not a huge menu, but lots of sides and a big selection of sauces. Food was prepared quickly and delivered by appropriately friendly staff. The place is not very large, the furnishings are functional, the real âstarâ is the food! The folks running the place either have a lot of experience in the restaurant business world or they have received great direction. My only negatives were that my french fries were a bit tired, old and limp, and my companionâs slaw dressing had leached a lot of purple color from the solids. But, that was easily overshadowed by the rest of the food. The sandwich buns were fresh and had great flavor, the sauces were as described on the menu board, spicy sauces were not overpowered by the âheatâ. I had burnt ends, my companion had chicken, most of our group had pulled pork, and one did have the chicken strips, which were more âplanksâ than âstripsâ, i.e. the pieces were large slabs of breast meat with a thin, and tasty, breading.

We love this place. We forget to eat at Jethros, some nights. But, when we return, we are reminded why we love this restaurant. There were two couples in our party. The restaurant was busy, but we did not have a wait. My husband and I shared both an appetizer of wings and also a platter for two. Everything was great.

My husband and I visited Claxonâs for the first time to give their BBQ a try. We both love smoked meats. Our server, Megan, was very sweet, attentive and helpful. I ordered the rib/smoked meat combo with a side of green beans, pulled pork and sliced brisket. The ribs were good (had a sweet tang to them with a little heat on the back side. The meat was just a bit tough to get off the bone, but the juiciness and flavor offset that. I found the brisket and pork both on the dry side, even after dunking it in a very tasty and sweet sauce. The green beans, in my opinion, werenât worth eating. Very bland and even after generous salting, I left them in the plate. My husband had the Three Pigs sandwich. It was a tenderloin topped with bacon and pulled pork. He said it was âokay.â The pork wast dry to him as well, and the tenderloin nothing special. His Mac and cheese was creamy, but again, flavorless. In general the seasoning for side dishes should be ramped up. Refills were prompt and everything was clean.

"Opened by award winning pitmasters, this restaurant just off I-80 on Des Moines' north side is a BBQ lovers dream and would be a real gem for travelers". New Smokey D's location. There are two others.
We were happy that we stopped here for lunch on our road trip. It wasnât the best BBQ weâve ever had, but much better than the typical fast food options. The burnt ends were done perfectly, and the fries were deliciously seasoned and perfectly done. The parking lot was pretty full, but we only had to wait a few minutes to order, and about five minutes for our food to arrive.
