My husband and I each ordered a steak dinner. I had the charbroiled ribeye and my husband enjoyed the fillet. We both loved our food. The family style house salad, which was included, was fresh and delicious and included an excellent variety of greens and cheese.The service was attentive and efficient.Janice - thank you for the wonderful review. First time visitor to Big Steer restaurant in Altoona, Iowa. Truly fantastic experience with excellent, friendly, timely and professional service. I had a most outstanding filet mignon (medium) with baked potatoes and salad. Tremendous quality cut, prepared most deliciously. Very satisfying, indeed. I very highly recommend. Price was right. Portion very fair. An overall five star experience.

My wife and I showed up at AJ's on a whim, no reservation. The hostess was extremely accommodating. She was able to move some things around and we were seated in less than five minutes. The place was full.The food and service were top notch. I had the prime rib. It was brought to me as ordered and had great flavor. Very tender. I also got a cup of the New England clam chowder. It was very good but different from most chowders I have had. It was very peppery. I liked it a lot.My wife ordered her ribye ruined (medium well). It came as ordered. She loved it. She got a cheesy potato for her side. It was good but looked better than it was.I love watching a good team of servers. They run around in a controlled chaos. A good team helps each other out. I witnessed this with AJ's staff. Our waiter was extremely nice, polite and professional. Prices for an upscale steakhouse are about what you would expect, maybe a little lower. If you are out at Prairie Meadows and hit it big, splurge a little and treat yourself to AJ's. Or do as we did, just make it part of the evening's experience. It was a good night and it started with AJ's.Thank you for the awesome review. We're very pleased you and your wife had an enjoyable evening at AJ's Steakhouse. Enjoyed dinner with family. Pleasant ambiance, strong pour with drinks, friendly & attentive service. Parked across street w metered parking lot. Reservations at 830 on weeknight. Apps included chargrilled oysters which were very good (considering we're used to eating them in new Orleans) and "down home" shrimp. Lobster corn chowder was delicious. NY strip and ribeye were cooked to medium rare as ordered however cajun spice on ribeye was not very prominent. I had seafood linguine which was loaded w lobster, shrimp and mussels. Pasta was cooked al dente. Sides included onion rings (yum), roasted mushrooms, and lobster mashed potatoes which all were excellent. Delicious fruit sorbet and caramel cheesecake rounded out a fantastic meal in DM. Will be back for another visit when we want a great steakhouse meal.

We enjoyed the polenta fries, followed by the chicken wraps and my partner had a steak. Dinner arrived quickly, everything was really good and the drinks were great. Everytime I visit I am impressed with the quality of service we receive. Very professional, knowledgeable staff. My only complaint is that it's a little spendy so we save it for special occassions only.
