In a downtown filled with restaurants and containing probably a couple dozen pure pizza places or places that offer pizza, this has the best and tastiest pizzas of them all. Nice, non-doughy, crisp crusts, good ingredients, great taste. Hard to park anywhere near it on a weekend night.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and surprisingly could get a table with ease. The service was fast and the food was great. The chicken kebab and lamb kebab platter was great and so were the accompaniment. They have amazing vegetarian platters too and my dear wife vouched for it. And yes the next day my tummy didn’t complain at all, which means that another visit to this lovely place is due.

The ordering as you enter and then getting the food is little awkward, but the items on display before ordering make it easy choices.Choice of wine makes it marginal. The pizza, and we had three types were all very good. The olive dish and the salad are a must.A new category of pizzeria. Excellent outside seating as well.

Located in a very nice, upper middle class, downtown suburban neighborhood. The restaurant has high ceilings, with a very nice and welcoming staff. Got good service from our server. The appetizer and the Margherita pizza we ordered were both better than average. We had a very nice weekend experience overall.

Rainbow Pizza

We love coming to Rainbow Pizza in western San Mateo. First of all, the menu is enormous -- literally! In addition to having a wide selection of Greek and Italian specialties, the actual menu is gigantic and takes two hands to lift! The Greek pizza options are fantastic, and you'll almost certainly have leftovers the next day. Our favorites include the #7 with colossal black olives and gyro meat, as well as the vegetarian #11 with feta cheese, garlic and fresh tomatoes. Other preferred entrees include the rack of lamb -- which is some of the best lamb we've had on the Peninsula, the pastitsio, and the garides a la Santorini (baked prawns with feta). Any Italian dish that comes with garlic bread will be a hit at your table. The mezzes are all huge and ideal for sharing, and we find a half Greek salad is plenty for two of us to share. Service is solid, and the food usually takes quite a while to prepare...but it's worth the wait. Rainbow Pizza is closed on Sunday.
