Fuji Sukiyaki

Based on the reviews here, we made a special effort to visit this restaurant. I wish we hadn't and had tried somewhere else. The place was very average. Except for one of the sushi chefs, the staff was slow and impersonal. We got the feeling that we were an interruption to their day. The food was average at best. The tempura was fine, as was the chicken teriyaki. The salmon teriyaki was so-so. But the restaurant has "sukiyaki" in the name, so that should have been the star. It wasn't. It was probably the worst I have ever had. The beef quality was fine, but there was a dearth of all ingredients except for the napa cabbage which overwhelmed the dish. But the worst thing was the broth. Instead of a rich, sweet broth, it was more like an insipid shabu-shabu broth. I couldn't taste the mirin, and they skimped on the soy sauce. I'm not sure they used any dashi. If you like cabbage soup with half a mushroom, a few pieces of carrot, and a bit of beef, then you might like this. I didn't.

It's not cheep but worth the price tag. You don't get better overall Sushi course dinner in California under $100/person.Reservation is extremely difficult now. 2 months advance reservation for weekend. They may have last minute cancellation so better to call restaurant around 5:30 pm.

The Lunch Combination (Bento Box) offered a huge amount of food for $8.50 (price in April 2017). I had the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki chicken was cooked just right and was flavorful. I liked it a lot; the lunch included soup, white rice, salad, Japanese rolls, and more. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. Old Town Sushi is located on B Street just off 1st, if I remember correctly. Their menu is fairly extensive. The only thing that did not appeal to me was the interior, which is fairly dark and not particularly attractive. All in all, I recommend this place to see what you think. For the most part, I liked it. I notice that the prior reviews were 14 good or excellent and 8 average or below.

An extensive menu and not overly expensive as Japanese food goes around here. Service was fine. We could actually sit and talk in this little restaurant in the Marina Shopping Center. Ample parking at dinner time, but often crowded at lunch or other times. Food was pretty good.

Tiny place. Went because my wife heard about it. If you don't come early you will wait, but it is worth it. It looks like a small owner/sushi chef run place. Literally everything we ordered was tasty and just right. That's itt about Japanese food. It's not about size of portions nor 'fresh' fish as sushi is flash frozen and almost 'aged' fish.Service is immaculate, sashimi and sushi is spot on. Tempura is delicate. That's it. This place is delicate like a Japanese place should me. Not the morphed, 'fusioned' Japanese restaurants that populate most of this area for miles around.

Very busy dinner place on a Friday night. Ordered a bento set No. 2: very satisfying, a bit of everything you want from Japanese cuisine; fragrances soft sticky rice, sashimi, hot miso soup, teriyaki chicken, it’s just the right reward after a week’s long hard work. Serving was fast. Very friendly and helpful staff, came around regularly to top up hot green tea. Highly recommended.

Sushi Sam's Edomata

Have been here several times over the years and they have been consistently consistent with their style and what they do. It may not be conventional but it is effectively good. Food - 4If you are looking for a traditional sushi joint, this is not a your place. If you want a nice twist that is not over the top, you would enjoy Sushi Sam! Just sit at the bar and go for the omakase. Start with 8 pieces first and add 2 pieces at a time on until you’re full. It’s a fun adventure that you can control. Service - 4This place is not but it has a small hole in a wall feel. Service is not professional but efficient. You may feel a little rushed because of how busy they are they want turns. Atmosphere - 3As mentioned, not but has a small hole in the wall place. It’s not elegant nor romantic but more of a local joint. Most definitely will return if I am in town. Good food, easy and reasonable. Give this place a try
