Had a long weekend international trip and we landed in El Salvador. Stayed at the Acantilados hotel, in which we found Fausto. The food is good and offers generous portions. Staying at the hotel? Get freshly made complimentary breakfast. The Eggs Benedict is delicious!

We’d already had dinner, but the kids wanted to try pupusas. We got one each to split up of the cheese, cheese and bean, loroco, and ayote (a type of squash flower). I’m not a big pupusa fan, but these were pretty good. Service was good and the place looked clean. Not sure if the prices are “normal” or if there’s a “Tunco tax” as I don’t normally eat pupusas, but at a $1 to $1.35 or so each depending on ingredients it’s still a cheap meal.

7. Pollo Campero

Pollo Campero

It's a chain fried chicken place, just like the other Pollo Camperos sprinkled around El Salvador and Guatemala. So why does it get four dots? We usually take the kids to the Pollo Campero in Santa Elena, and this one in La Libertad was cleaner, service was faster, and the fries were notably better (unclear why, but they were). Too, the location can't be beat when you're making a run down to the beach and need to feed the kids - it's right in the "T" where CA-2 and CA-4 intersect in La Libertad.

We found this place while looking for that super fit place for us. This is a great hotel with bungalow rooms that feature separate entrances from the courtyard. They are spacious with great beds and unique waterfall showers. The restaurant/ bar has great food with local dishes and also international cuisine. The staff at this place is very accommodating, everyone is friendly and helpful and eager to serve. We made this our home base to explore the real estate of El Salvador. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here.

Absolutely no vegetarian options. Also, despite only three tables on the entire level of the restaurant being occupied and one of them smoking, we were told that we could not smoke at out table. My meat-eating friend found the food bland and over-priced as well.

Sometimes I feel like eating at such a westernised restaurant to be a bit of a cop-out when travelling but this was so worth it!! The pasta with broccoli and cheese was so delicious and the coyote burger is packed with yummy avocado. Do it...dooo iiit.

We were there at about 7:30pm with the surreal experience of being the only customers in the restaurant until another party came in about 10 minutes after we sat down. So, service was pretty good. The calamari was quite good, maybe in the upper reaches of calamari I've had before. The grilled (seabass) fillet was perfectly cooked as was my companion's whole fried fish. There were some other things on the menu that looked interesting, and there are several posts here that speak well of the pizza, so we'll go back and give some of the other dishes a try. I think we'll also go back during daylight ... the views looked like they are phenomenal.
