El Tunco

Reviewed By R2_Ramirez - San Antonio, Texas

Went with a couple of friends and this place rocks! We visit three other Beaches around La Libertad, but El Tunco was the spot! Surf lessons, beautiful ladies, Tiki Bars and great food enhanced the overall experience! The waves weren't bad neither, you might need some experience, the bottom is rocky...the local Surfers were cool tho! Anyhow, great place to drink a couple of Cervezas Nacionales, eat seafood and enjoy the views!

It is like strip with restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, street vendors, artist, and performer’s. All local people with few forgings. Very affordable prices and very extremely fun to me. Absolutely safe and using uber very cheap to get there like less than $10 dollars each way from the InterContinental hotel.

We had an excellent tour with Fernando during our 12 hour layover in El Salvador. Fernando was waiting for us outside the airport with a sign with our names on it. He and his partner Roberto did a great job of communicating with us during the months leading up to our trip and in helping us detail the places we wanted to visit. We visited some Volcanos in a National Park where we also did a short hike. On the drive up there we stopped and drank fresh coconut juice from a little roadside stand, tasted sugarcane along a road, as well as some ripe coffee beans.
Fernando’s English is very good and he was so helpful in facilitating our interactions with locals. We ate some traditional Salvadorian food in the park which was inexpensive and delicious. After the park we went to the ocean and walked out onto a pier to view local seafood being brought in by fishermen in their small boats. We ate wonderful fish at a beachfront little restaurant. We picked out the two fish we were to eat and they were prepared beautifully. We were brought back to the airport at the proper time to catch our connecting flight.
I would highly recommend Fernando and Roberto as guides for any trip you want to take in El Salvador and beyond. Our trip will be one my wife and I remember for the rest of our lives.

Gave average score, because cannot tell, if this place is good or bad. It is either way, but not in between. I bit better from inside, but the view from outside is really sad. Once we finally found the place we could not believe THIS was the top attraction of the whole city, to be honest. Kind of weird place, but they could spend a little to improve the outlooks. Not sure, if this is worth going..

Tamanique Waterfalls

Reviewed By Henry M - San Salvador, El Salvador

For hikers and outdoor spaces, there is a tour that is ideal for a unique adventure based on the practice of Extreme Tourism: Waterfalls Tamanique, a waterfall that feeds births water located 10 kilometers from the village, in the hills of that town.
A good physical condition could be helpful if you decide to visit this place, but if you have willpower and you like challenges, this tour will become the experience of a lifetime.
To Tamanique Waterfalls Tour, one of the managers to offer this ride, ideal for visiting the waterfall season is summer, because in winter the road becomes dangerous.
As you journey through the dry Forests of Tamanique, a small, refreshing breeze indicates that you are very close to your destination. The guides say the route is 30 minutes long as you keep the pace and do not stop, or 50 minutes if you rest.
The arid area in the dry season becomes more difficult the journey, but small stations along the way to rest under the shade of trees, allow you to drink water, recharge and enjoy the scenery, especially the hills They surround the area, including Tecolote.
Huge rocks around the first of the three pools that owns the waterfall, they have the perfect depth to make a "dive" from those rocks measuring about four meters high.
A few meters ahead, you can reach the first waterfall, it is the smallest and has a waterfall about 10 meters high.
From there, if you're bold and not afraid of heights, you can make a dive into the pool formed amid the huge rock formations. After this, there is another waterfall with a drop of water about 40 meters high.
Reaching this is not easy because you have to go down more. In addition, the exposed roots of trees and "loose" stones become a bit extreme the trip.
However, the tranquility of the place, thanks to the sublime sound of the wind, falling water and the singing of the birds, where the largest waterfall is, make the journey worthwhile.
A huge pool receives water falling about 40 meters high. Altogether there are seven Waterfalls in the Mountains, where you can go, if you have time, patience and energy to walk

There are great local and international brand stores of fashionable clothing and shoes, also department stores, banks, cinemas, etc. Ideal to spend a shopping and entertainment time in San Salvador.

Today was the second time I visited this place and I am happy I did.
This time I brought family and friends with me, and they all loved it!
We got there like at 11am (lucky us that our company has a good discount with them), and 5 happy troopers started the journey.
The animals were rather sleepy at the time of our walk (possibly because of the heat), but there was a great variety of animals and plants. We moved then to the zip line base, geared up and started it...
I have to warn those that think the "extreme" is not such, it surely is if you are not physically prepared for it. It was rather tough for my crowd. However, the stunning views and the adrenaline made it all worthy.
Food at the cafeteria is not bad, but don't go for the sandwiches or pizza as they are way overpriced.
I would come back for the zip line in the future :) - It was a great Sunday afternoon trip!
