The food here is simply stunning. Local produce and traditional dishes, excellently pulled together and very well served. The food was delicious and the dish of the day is often quite a treat. The drinks selection is great and varied, the staff friendly and knowledgable (if you unsure or indecisive about anything just ask, they always have recommendations!) and the dining area is classy and well setup. It's a bit hidden away besides the public pools but well worth a visit, always my first stop when i'm in town.

Mas ficou no olho uma cabidela na mesa ao lado...Várias sobremesas típicas. Encharcada é top. Sericaia gostosa mas estava demasiado cozida.Valeu a pena a agradável experiência!

I struggle with this review. The space is amazing and the hotel is aesthetically spectacular. (See related review) But the restaurant left us horrified.Things fell apart at hotel check in, when we were asked to move our reservation back by an hour due to a large group. We agreed and set dinner for 9pm.While waiting at the bar prior to dinner, the large group of Americans, clearly post a wine pairing, filtered into the bar, making it too loud to have a conversation. It’s fine, we are Americans, but it seemed strange to keep them in the bar at a fine restaurant (it actually seemed like they had been kicked out of dinner). We were sat 10 minutes later (9:10 for a 8pm reservation). The night started to come off the rails immediately. We were served a small bowl of curried nuts... we will come back to the bowl later. The menu is a bit odd. It starts with a long write-up about a focus on local ingredients and the food of the region... then dives into a list of Asian-fusion options. Fine, we are pretty adventurous...We were then served bread with a strange cheese and olive oil and a shiso leaf. Not sure if the shiso leaf was grown locally, but the olive oil was great. As was the bread. Things go downhill from here. The first starter was a selection of finger foods; a small corn muffin with cream on top, fried cod in a squid ink flour wrapper, an enormous oyster with chopped onion and a very bland egg roll style item with an unexciting filling. I have never understood starting a meal with fried food, but actually the fried cod was one of the best dishes of the evening. We chose to have a wine pairing. Which was a good idea, given that the wines were the only thing that was enjoyable about the meal, but sad too, because the sommelier kept taking the wines away before we were finished. We then moved on to a series of elongated foibles, where the wines were served too early, the dishes came much much too late, and generally the service and food were poor. We had a variation on Tom Ka Gai soup, that was cold, a risotto that was undercooked with with cold lobster, and a duck Bao bun that was soggy. Soggy probably because, like most of the meal, it must have sat in the kitchen too long). One of the dishes, I believe it was the Tom Ka Gai, was served with a wine that was “complex and needed to be drank with food”, which presented a challenge because we weren’t served the food intended to be paired for at least 10 min after the wine had been served. Remaining through the whole experience was an empty nut glass, from the beginning of the meal. Empty on the table. We were also offered more bread, which we decided not to have, though the bread service (and olive oil and Yuzu leaf) remained on the table till dessert. The sea bass was probably my favorite dish. Served with a champagne foam. The nut glass, remained on the table. My partner and I both left at various points, not to vomit (that was dessert), but to use the rest room. Neither time were our napkins folded at the table. The steak, served with one of the better wines of the evening, from the local region, took an exceptionally long time to prepare, which seems remarkable, given the it may have been on of the smallest steaks I have ever eaten. Also, not sure why the onion needed to be coated in gold leaf, but it was, and actually tasted pretty good. And the nut glass, sad and empty from the beginning of dinner, was finally removed. Pre dessert was an interesting combination of honey comb, chocolate and banana ice cream. I enjoyed it, though parts were so frozen I had to eat them all at once. Lastly (finally?) at 11:45 (for an 8pm reservation) we were served our final dish. A globe of Yuzu and pine nut. Both citrus, and pine are both used in cleaning products and food. Both sometimes ride the line between appetizing and fresh, and disgusting toilet cleaner. This particular dessert seemed to capture the latter elements of both. I never leave dessert at the table. I left this one. Overall this was a disappointing meal. The food wasn’t great and the service was lacking. As I said at the beginning, the space is amazing, but the food and service need a lot of work.

The food is delicious and the restaurant very typical, in the center of Montemor.Authentic alentejo food, with very reasonable prices. The restaurant can be quite busy at certain periods, specially at weekends, so make sure to reserve a table.Don't get mad with the waiter (I believe it's the owners husband), he doesn't speak a single word of English. Try to be patient and smile. That will help.

Went here for lunch solo. Restaurant was quiet as I arrived for a late lunch. Service was quite slow considering it's a small restaurant and most were already eating their mains.Communication seemed awkward even though I speak Portuguese. Waiter was very serious. When ordering i specifically asked for a salad which never arrived.I also had to ask for a beer/drink rather than be asked if I wanted a beverage.Food was good, fresh tasty bread, olives and cheese to start, followed by pork with rice and chips(potatoes) but as mentioned my salad never arrived, which I was really looking forward to and I couldn't be bothered asking again.I think it would be a better experience if I was with company but good place for a quick meal.

While traveling between Lisbon and Madrid we decided tinha-me lunch around Montemor, and went to a ribeira based on a gastronomic guide recommendation. And what a very nice surprise that was. The restaurant is located next to vineyards and a river with a modest exterior. When you get in you immediately understand that you are going to eat very well and that you are going to have fun!! The owner sings the menu. For us it was a rap!!! Fabulous!! The food was great. We ate fried squid and a steak for the kids. The owner and the staff are quite friendly and put you comfortable to customize your dish to your preferences(salad, only tomato, French fries or boiled potatoes, etc). If you have the chance, don't miss it. Book in advance. I was lucky because when i got there there was a single 4-seat table available.
