I spoke to the manager on 12/22 about our experience. For a Saturday during the holidays, it was busy. But the birthday celebration we got for our friend allowed us to get seated fairly quick. Our server was Queeny (who apparently is new). She started off with a attitude and less than welcoming tone when introducing herself and getting our drink orders. Then our cook was probably new too as he did not have that many good tricks and even messed some up badly, such as dropping his spatula. To add insult, the food was undercooked and eventually made me sick the next day (undercooked / old rice, undercooked mushrooms and noodles). We also asked Queeny if we could get a birthday celebration done for our fried who’s birthday was on 12/23. So Queeny asks for her ID and simply said “today is not 12/23” and walked off. Such a simple gesture was ignored and made the experience terrible. The manager even said that he would have approved that and didnt know why she said that...I have been here before and had great experiences but this one was one that ruined it for me.

Remember in days way gone past going to Benihana, it was a big deal with the hibachi grill table and the chefs doing the great tricks? It was a show for the night and I thought a whole lot of fun. Maybe a little bit $$$ but the fact I still recall the experience tells me it was a deal worth the cost. I'll admit it has been some time since I've been to the chain and will also say it may be longer as I hate to go as my local one is in a area that is hard for parking in Bethesda.Given this, a little web surfing and I find this place up in a mini mall that has almost nothing but food. The drive is nothing for me but the parking was a little wacky come 8:30 on a Sat night. I'd advise you think about when you want to eat & parking for this neck of the woods or be ready to suck it up and walk across Montpelier Rd from the hotel parking lot.BTW, you should have shopped Groupon a day ahead and get a deal; one can't get a coupon right before you eat of course. We made reservations but, the place had a lot of seats open when we walked in. One could sit at the Sushi Bar if that is all you crave or land as most do at a big table with a grill in the center and 7 to 12 or so seats wrapped around. As we were seated a large party was in the back having a heck of a good time; the chef was working them more than the grill. We were seated at a table with another nice couple at the other end. We could see some tables with just one couple. An than it was "Chuck E Cheese" time: a whole lot of kids showed up! One table was filled with eight 5 to 12 year olds hosted by a teen girl and boy friend. Also, mom showed up with a range of ten kids from 4 to 16. Guess this place is very family friendly as it does have a Children Menu and to my surprise the kids behaved better than expected. We ordered with a nice Ms Waiter; she brought out a soup and salad that was simple and OK. You are allowed to pick Hibachi or French Garlic Shrimp and also pick Fried or white rice; between wife and I we picked everything. OK not much to say about the soup and salad. Skip the mixed drinks less you'd like fruit drinks, just too little bang for the buck. Stay with beer or wine. The "Combination Sashimi Apetizer" was an ok presentation of tuna and yellowtail. Only bummer about it was Mr. Chef was at the table working his thing before we got it so maybe it was a tad late. Mr. Chef does the joke about egg roll as he spins the egg on the grill just before he brakes it to fry; I think that is one old joke but it still works....we work to get the Sashimi Apetizer down before he has something ready....In a flash, he had the fried rice done; funny my wife does not get any white rice as ordered. He cranked out the other orders with what I'll call good but not fantastic show. He does the onion volcano thing it is all good. I've asked for my Sirloin Steak to be med rare and he is grilling the heck out of it; it is way done by the time I get it. I do like the chicken and Hibachi shrimp. Wife is OK with the Garlic Shrimp and Scallops but still has to ask as Mr. Chef is wrapping up for her rice.I think to close we agree the whole experience with the Groupon makes the deal fun, maybe more fun if we had brought some friends to fill the table and had some beer and got all our stuff on time....We may well give the place another shot some time. Great chance for someone who have never been to Japanese steak place.
