It's in a little village at the top of a lot of hairpin bends with stunning views over the edge of Serra d'Estrella national park. The rooms are old fashioned and comfortable with modern bathrooms. The staff are just fantastic, super helpful and friendly. There's a lovely pool. The giant gin and tonics on the terrace looking out over the valley are the best ever, about 8 different gins to choose from. Food is good and tasty, but this being rurual Portugal, portions are on the hearty side. If you have a starter each you could share main courses and treat yourself to dessert. I would recommend the various pot roasts and casseroles. Profiteroles to die for. Really child-friendly, fine collection of toys available in the restaurant. (But you have to look out for your own at the pool). Breakfast is excellent. You can take an 'apartment' mostly 2-bedroom -- in which case you can be self-catering. Food shopping in the village is not great although you can get some basics. There's a supermarket by the campsite at the bottom of the hill.

Reviewed By XGC S3 star hotel and it shows. Plus: Decor and friendly staff. Cons: It was said that a cradle was available and when we got there it was broken. Compliment coffe machine in the room was also broken. Shower water pressure was terrible. When AC is on we can't hear the TV.

Great boutique hotel
Reviewed By FFM9We stayed 2 nights in this lovely boutique hotel, nested in a 19th century mansion, and opened 6 months ago. Its personnal is friendly and dedicated, a real discovery. It has all possible facilities of a 4 stars, including a heated pool and a jaccuzi, wifi for free that works well across the venue amd a large parking in front of the entrance. We booked room 302, which has an incredibly large terrace, overseeing the valley view with a 270 degree view. The room was about 30sqm in addition of the terrace 40 sqm ! NB : our room was not dotted with a fridge, just in case you need one, be aware. The breakfast is served on the 1st floor, in what was the former mansion main dining room, quality is good and it offers a wide choice of fresh Portuguese products. The hotel has a newer wing on the back of the main mansion, where every room there too has a small balcony. Dont trust the stars classification, as it's not reflecting the venue qualities. We highly this place and we will certainly come back if we travel agaib in that part of Portugal, and it is definitely worth spending a romantic getaway at this venue as the region is gorgeous and has a fantastic food culture too.

Located 11 km from Seia city, the doorway to Serra da Estrela Mountain, Casa do Boco is an 18th-century granite house located in Meruge. Each unit is different from each other. They all include a seating area and heating, and some have a fireplace. The interiors give continuity to the rustic-style of the building.

Portugal has many B&Bs run by people who came to live here and have no other way of making a living. Not all of them are expert at disguising the fact that they'd really rather not have you around :) ...whereas from the moment we arrived, it was obvious that QdM actually IS Paradise, it doesn't just look like it! Josephine and Hans are such clever, funny, kind people that our stay in their beautiful Quinta was guaranteed to be happy and relaxed. It's the biggest pool we've seen anywhere, and the communal areas available for guest use are equally generous. Great care and attention to detail has been taken in preparing the information available to make the most of exploring the area. Another BIG plus is the very comfortable bed (many Portuguese hotels/B&Bs have rather hard mattresses), not to mention a bedroom that was pleasantly cool at night. And the quilt was summer weight, unlike many places that keep the same winter-warmth heavy bedclothes all year round! Our studio apartment was pretty and comfortable, with everything we needed for self-catering. As an added surprise, the bathroom had a very spectacular wall of rock (really, a cliff face!) on one side. A real delight to stay here, and we look forward to visiting again one day perhaps later in the year.
