Due to the pandemic, we were forced to temporarily close the center in March 2020. We reopened on April 12, 2021, and renamed the center to the Garifuna Cultural Center, you can find new reviews on that page.

Flamingo Cultural Center Roatan Delightful place We were driving around the island and had heard to stop in to Punta Gorda for history about the Garifuna people. The Flamingo Cultural Center was a great stop! Audrey took time to talk with us and answer our questions and show us a video too. Take the time to pop in!

This wonderful museum in a beautiful historic building in the heart of Tegucigalpa is a must see for anyone visiting. The building alone is worth the visit, but be certain to spend some time in the inviting and informative expositions. And definitely stop by the gift shop on the way out... wonderful finds.

Museum of Anthropology and History of San Pedro Sula

Reviewed By ilZio - San Pedro Sula, Honduras

The museum is located a block from el Parque Central and the Cathedral. It's unimpressive from the outside, but great on the inside. It has a lot of artifacts and items on display that show the history of the Sula Valley and San Pedro Sula. The bottom floor is particularly interesting for kids as it has recreation of older homes and it portrays the local way of life. They have sheets with english explanations throughout the museum. It's very well done and would recommend.

This is a great collection to see before or after the main ruins. It may be more meaningful to see the ruins first. Nice collection. Good English signage. You need 1-1.5 hours to see it all. Highly recommend. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

Waves of Art

Waves of Art Gift Shop is located in West End Village on Roatan Island in Honduras. Roatan is just one of the islands that make up the beautiful group of Bay Islands in Honduras. It's brightly painted facade stands out along the beachside town and is a visual temptation for shoppers, tourists and cruiseship tours. Regularly scheduled Art shows and Art Exhibitions offer the Roatan community and local residents an opportunity to see what island artists are creating. Unique and affordable gifts include a variety of folk art and hand made items that support fair trade organizations, eco-sustainable products and local artisan coops. Most of the beautiful items for sale are made in Honduras and Central America. Waves of Art Gallery and Gift Shop offers tourists and cruiseshippers an opportunity to find that special gift, support a local artist and shop in an air conditioned space.

I have a 'beach house' theme in my home, and a deep love for all things ocean and marine life, so the fine art triptychs (trilogies of waves and such) and gallery quality giclee prints (tropical fruit, flora, people, boats, Caribe scenes) made this a haven. From driftwood dolphin creations (need to go back and order that one for my brother's Roatan house) to unique, hand-painted dolphin bookmarks which I brought back for our Reading Partners/Americorps kids, they have a two-story collection of curated wearables and artisan finds. Beautifully presented and good cross-section of categories that appeal to a diverse range of wallets... ;)
