Friendly and helpful staff. Able to pay in boliviar, dollar and Euro. Rooms are not so big, but enough place. There was a problem with the shower, but they solved it in 2 mins. Breakfast is fine, but not too much. Great: Balcony with chairs, desks and a lot of sun.

A Work of Art

Possibly the most memorable place I've stayed. Magnificent view of Titicaca and the most lively, creative decor I've encountered. Owner Rene goes out of his way top help and communicate (at check-in, he gives you a five to twenty minute--depending upon your preference --to options in and around the area. He and his mother, Sra. Yola, are very welcoming. Breakfast is terrific. Hot water works. Can be a little cold, but it's at 13,000+ feet and the blankets are more than sufficient. Walk to restaurant row is about ten minutes and not at all inconvenient. Arguably the best lodgings decision I've ever made in forty years of travel.

Great location, quaint hotel and exceptional staff

We enjoyed our stay at Casa de Piedra. The location was great and the hotel quaint. But we would like to especially thank Jorge, one of the hotel staff, who provided us with exceptional advice and help. Jorge explained La Paz's cable car system to us and even loaned us his system pass card. He also made special arrangements for us to be picked up by our tour guide one day when a miner's protest closed the road in front of the hotel, even walking with us to make sure that we were safely in our guide's hands at the meeting place he arranged with the guide. Thanks Jorge for making our stay in LaPaz an exceptional experience!

Charm. Charm. Charm.

Reviewed By Ahbutz

Hotel ratings should be adjusted for their environments. If this hotel were in my neighborhood in San Diego, California where tourism standards are high, I would give this hotel a one, or at best a two. This hotel has no heating - despite the fact that the night time temperatures often fall into the 40's and even the 30's Fahrenheit. This hotel has limited hot water - which is due to the fact that the water is heated above in tanks run through solar panels. This hotel has no closet for clothes, no room safe, no phone, no tv, and so on. What this hotel has though- is charm, charm, charm. This hotel is on a small island, an island with no cars, motorcycles, or engine driven vehicles on any kind. It's in the middle of a lake that is over 12,000 feet in elevation, a lake with no ships or modern sailing vessels. Domestic donkeys and llamas roam the trails. The trails were built nearly a thousand years ago. This hotel offers an escape from wherever you were from to a very special place that was very special to people who lived here hundreds and thousands of years before. It was here that one of the few times in my life that I could hear nothing - absolutely nothing. And see absolutely nothing - except pure natural beauty. This place is special and this hotel enhances the aura you feel when you arrive. The room we got was like the others here, an independent unit high above the lake with incredible views of Lake Titicaca and the islands and spectacular mountains. Our room had three large picture windows on two adjacent walls that allowed us to enjoy the sunset and sunrise. But for the evening rain, we would have seen the starry sky from our room, that this place is known for. We were told that the hotel was up about 10 months ago. Everything appeared new and everything appeared spotlessly clean. The room furnishings were simple but exuded a charm reminiscent of mountain chalets of the Alps. The bed was small - a full or queen size, but had thick coverings to keep you warm. Sonia runs the place for her family and keeps a nice restaurant and lobby near the bottom of the property, with large windows offering incredible views of the lake. The rooms are independly stacked up the hill on each side allowing each unit spectacular views. The boat dock is a few hundred feet below and a few other similar hotels can be seen to the side and below. Sonia provides a great breakfast and dinnner. Choices are quite limited but the offerings are really good. Her milk and juice drinks are like smoothies without the sweet sugar taste, her matte de coca has fresh, loose, whole leaves, and her trucha (locally farmed fish) is excellent and recommended. And her soups are perfect after that long day of hiking and boating across the lake. But caution. There is a long rather steep walk up the steps to the hotel from the boat dock. Anyone should be able to make it unless they have some medical problem. We are a couple in our later 60's and had no problem, although we took our time and breathed hard.

Best ceviche ever!

Reviewed By Lawdrum

The ceviche tostada desgreñada was absolutely amazing! It’s probably the best ceviche I’ve ever had in my life. The food was five stars. What brought it down to four stars was the lack of customer service. There were only two other customers in the building and the waitress let us run out of water twice and she stayed on the other side of the room the entire time. They need to train their staff to be more customer oriented. Also, the soda had barely enough syrup to give it a taste, and there was no carbonation.

Good location, nice room but bad service and staff

Reviewed By evan89

Overall we were happy with our stay, because of the nice big room and bed and the location of the hotel. However, there are some negative points to consider: - the breakfast (which was from 7.30-9.30) was so limited that everyday almost everything was gone by 9.00 - there was only 1 towel in the room, we had to get another one at the reception - on day 3 we asked for new towels but the cleaning lady told us there were no clean ones anymore (??? seems very strange for a hotel) so we didn't get new ones - the laundry service is terrible. We brought our laundry in and they told us we would get it back the next morning at 10.00. However, the next morning they told us that it wasn't done yet and we would get it the day after. This wasn't possible for us since we would leave that same night. After a lot of discussion with the reception, who called the laundry service, they arranged for us to get the laundry back in the afternoon. However, when we finally got it back it wasn't clean, some items were still wet and there was an item missing. We reported the missing item to the reception, who called again with the laundry service. They told me I was mistaken and that everything had been sent back. I insisted they checked again since I was sure I was missing something. They told me to check again and they would let me know something later that day. In the evening we still hadn't heard anything back. There was someone else at the reception who knew of nothing. He called with the laundry service again and after an hour he brought me my missing item... After all this fuss we still had to pay a lot for our laundry (14 bs per kg), not worth it at all! - We ordered room service at the reception, the clerk told us it would take 30-40 min to arrive. After half an hour he came to our room telling us the pizza deliverer was closed. I don't understand why he took so long to call and tell us this? Very unprofessional.
