The food at La Cabinita is excellent, prepared to order by a genuine Mexican grandmother. VERY authentic, delicious, and a wide selection of dishes beyond the usual tacos and enchiladas (which are great, too). Hand-made tortillas, good selection of Mexican beers. The service is good and friendly, although the waitress speaks limited English. The place is a little run down, and Mexican soap operas and news are on the TV, but the food makes up for that. Right across the street from the Best Western, which is the only non-dive hotel in town.

This place was recommended to me by several locals, and there were a number of customers eating when I arrived. The place is cheerful and pleasant, and the one waitress is friendly. Chips and salsa were good, and they had a decent selection of Mexican beers. However, the food sucks â it's a VERY gringo-ized version of Mexican cuisine. The taco was pathetic, like something you might expect at a school cafeteria, plain ground beef served in a precooked crisp tortilla with a little chopped lettuce and cheese. Bleh! The tamale was dry, stiff, and flavorless. Bleh, bleh! The beans and rice were nothing special. And, to top it off, I ordered a chicken taco but got beef, ordered corn tortillas but got flour. Taco-Bell is better. Try La Cabanita if you want REAL Mexican food.

I was looking for a non chain place for a little internal refueling. This place had enough parking first thing in the morning for my vintage travel trailer on the street. It was clean and friendly and the bathroom was very cleanSome great horchata and a very good handmade breakfast burrito was just what I needed. Cheap, fast, clean.Much better than the franchise places

Little towns â what the country singers call âmap dotsâ are becoming a greater part of my working repertoire â Wasco, California is such an example. Locked in the mountains close to Yosemite I discovered another great eating spot hidden amongst the Redwoods and Pines. Catrinaâs Mexican Grill and Cantina served one of the best lunches a hungry traveler can ask for. The space was clean and well organized. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and the food was tasty. Not the TexMex Iâm use to but a lighter (healthier?) fare that was so Californian. Personal preference aside I had one of the best veggie tacoâs Iâve ever eaten.

I was very disappointed by the lack of specialties on this menu, the general plain-ness of the food and the incredible lack of Carnitas on the menu in any form. Having eaten at countless Mexican restaurants in Shafter, Bako, and beyond, I have come to consider Carnitas to be an absolute staple. The stultifying dullness of the food was nicely mitigated by the ability to order a Tequila or two at lunch.

I visit this location with 8-12 friends on a weekly basis. The food is consistently good and overall the place is clean, with the occasional exception of the condiment area/drink bar. Tonight, after ordering a surf 'n turf burrito, I found I had an email informing me of a free drink with the purchase of said burrito. The clerk did not mention the drink at all when I was placing my order. It didn't make much difference to me as I usually don't drink with my meal, but I could have given it to a friend.

My wife ordered two shrimp tacos ala carte, which she said were fresh and delicious. I chose the fajitas, which I have ordered here before. Today's order, when delivered, seemed overcooked which was evidenced by the fact there was no color to the veggies and the 'crunch' of a raw or properly cooked vegetable has. The flavor was fine, but not as good as usual. The rice and beans here though are my wife's favorites. She doesn't order them, but eats a good portion of mine. Next time, I may order double portions on them.
