What can I say? The best food! What started out as a steak dinner turned out to be several courses. What an amazing dinner!!It was so much like what my mom made. We aren't Basque, but the only difference was we were also served pickled tongue. Never even heard of it, good, but nothing close to the delight of all of the other food. When the steak came we were totally shocked at the size but it was the tastiest I've had in years and I've eaten 60$ steaks that don't compare. I think we spent a $90 in all and took home half the steak. Make sure you get a reservation. Only open for dinner on Friday nights.

This is a non-chain restaurant that has a family owned feeling. It is through back to the 1960’s / 1970’s. It is clean, nice booth and bar sitting areas and the staff provides Excellent Service. Any item on the menu is well prepared and you are given a generous portion. The price is reasonable. Every time I drive through Buttonwillow I stop here for a Great Meal

Stopped here for a late lunch while traveling. Were pleasantly surprised with the quality. The dinner salad & Cesar salads were both really fresh & crispy. Our main dishes, Chicken Fried Steak and Spaghetti & Meatballs, were both great too. Splurged and ordered a value menu $4 dessert of the Cookies & Cream Mega Sundae to share & it was almost too much to share. The server was very nice & attentive & even gave us a to-go cup to take the leftover iced tea.

Don't bother branching off State Hwy 99 or other roads to find this Subway. Its not worth the hassle to locate it, park at it, or get back onto the freeway. In fact I would recommend not even taking the "7th Standard Rd" exit off 99 to access any restaurant, store or motel in this boomtown district of north Bakersfield. First off, it is severely flawed by one of the poorest strip mall layouts I have ever experienced... and as a former Urban Planner I could see someone at City Hall messed up royally here to allow it. Second, according to Google Maps, the address has recently changed to 35171 Merle Haggard Dr, a name change in step with Bakersfield's ongoing strategy to brand itself as California's Nashville or Grand Ole Opry. Your GPS apps will be of little help around here until all databases are corrected. The phone number is (661) 391-0100 but I doubt you will get through.Third, the nearest cross street is State Highway 65, an expressway also known as All America City Hwy. Fourth, due to raised medians, lack of left turn lanes and other misplaced traffic design features, it is difficult to find where to turn into or out of the Subway's parking area. You will have to go a mile to make a left turn. Then, once in the parking lot, beware of its strange and dangerous terraced layout and luckless cul-de-sac interior driveways. Some cars will actually get trapped for a while near the restaurant entrance due to congestion. There are almost no safe walkways from the parking lot to the Subway. I do not recommend this entire strip mall for the disabled nor many seniors. This part of Bakersfield is booming economically due to oil industry and other activity and restaurants and motels here are always overcrowded. Evidently buildings are just being thrown up with little real planning. The streets are heavy with industrial vehicles and speeding traffic. At Noon, the line here was out the door and service was very slow. The store was filthy with trash on the floor and outside, overflowing garbage bins and other nuisances. The sandwich ingredients looked as worn out as the clientele. The one unisex rest room had broken fixtures, no 'TP' and its door did not lock. We ditched this place - "amscrayed" as my Tennessee-born Mom used to say - due to the overall very bad vibe here and to avoid being trapped further in this boomtown environment. Bottom line: Just skip this wild West part of Bakersfield and instead keep in mind the tried-and-true restaurants back along 99 and near the Route 58 interchange. Some Subways are well-run and inexpensive but not so here. Buck Owens & Dwight Yoakum would certainly be embarrassed for their adopted home town.

Arrived around 5:45 in the evening. The restaurant was not very busy. I ordered a pasta with pesto sauce. The pasta was loaded with sauce but it was extremely salty. My brother and his family ordered the stuffed mushrooms which they said were very good. They also ordered a large pizza. They were not crazy about it though. They said the pizza sauce was sweet and it just didn't taste right. My husband ordered a different pasta dish with alfredo sauce and he liked it. It wasn't as salty as mine but he said it was saltier than pasta he is used to. The service was very friendly and kept up on refills. We had a nice time. My husband grew up in Wasco and he said, "It's just not what it used to be." We won't be making the short drive from Bakersfield anytime soon to revisit. Here is a little advice. Lay off the salt. If the food is seasoned right there is no need for all that salt.

This Subway is perhaps their most conveniently placed outlet near the Route 99 Freeway in the Bakersfield area, and that's an important factor if you are traveling. Its about 8 miles north of central Bakersfield and you must exit at Merced Ave and head east into the Pilot Truck Stop along Zachary Ave. My spouse had insisted we stop at Subway for lunch. There is plenty of parking and room for the kids to run. The handy truck stop convenience store next door also allows you to pick up necessary sundries and get gasoline. The sandwich ordering counter was clean and the service brisk yet intelligent. Our suitable, tasty sandwiches were soon ready to go, made as ordered and at a convenient price. The rest room was clean and well-stocked. Despite the truck traffic and some congestion, it was very easy to get back on the freeway. Bottom line: For really fast food in the Subway style for the Bakersfield area, we recommend this location. Remember: Use the Merced Ave exit.

Stopped by Tin Cup Coffee on Saturday for breakfast. The interior is pleasant, clean, and comfortable, with nice touches like a bouquet of fresh sweet peas on each table. I like places that offer several different sized tables—for 2, 4, or even 10, and this cafe does, so can accommodate whatever size party you’re dining with. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. You order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. The food offerings varied from oatmeal to breakfast sandwiches and biscuits and gravy for breakfast, to salads, soups, and build your own sandwiches for lunch. Also lots of different coffee drinks, teas, and sodas.
