Consistently delicious chorizo breakfast burritos. Im only giving this place a 3 star because they are a little pricey (compared to other in town), the location is a tad sketchy, and the service isn't always friendly (I've felt uncomfortable even). My other two favorite places are either not open or do not open until later on weekends.

Had combo plate dinner. Cost $16 ea. Taco shells were like the box kind you get at the grocery store. Requested shredded beef which tasted like the packed shredded beef you can get at Costco. Beans were the same as you get when you open a can of refried beans. We will go to Taco Bell before ever returning to this restaurant.

Informal and more of a semi-fast food place (custom orders at the counter and pay up front); but great condiments, seating, and lighting in an energetic, colorful setting. Lots of folks here on lunch time from work; but plenty of room between tables means that you can chat and there's no rush. Standard fast food Mexican, but very large portions especially of meat. One taco is a lunch in itself, but everything else looked great and the sizes could feed you and a friend (or leftovers for lunch). About the best Mexican I have had in chico in a loooong time.

This small neighborhood Mexican restaurant offers good food at a very reasonable price. Much better than your typical fast food joints. Eat in or take out.

La Hacienda Restaurant

La Hacienda is a Chico staple with a decades-long history of satisfying locals and travelers. If you're looking for authentic Mexican fare, this isn't it, but if you want a fresh and tasty spin on Latin flavors, you'll love this place. Famous for its tostadas and appetizers, La Hacienda also offers some interesting takes on other dishes. It's chimichangas are varied and delicious. Hubby and I are both fans of the Mayan Pork, which is served with polenta pancakes and mango relish. Service is friendly, but can be slow on a busy day. Food is made fresh, so you may have a wait once your order is in. Chips and salsa, complimentary with your meal, will tide you over. We can recommend this place highly.

On the positive side. The waitress was absolutely excellent. Polite and very attentive to our needs. The portions were huge. The refried beans were excellent. On the opposite side. The atmosphere was atrocious. It was so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. The fact that the one large room was packed did not reflect outstanding Mexican food. On the contrary, my chile relleno had an aftertaste, similar to something that was fried in very old oil. I asked for a margarita "not too sweet" and received one that was mixed with club soda. The waitress offered to make it sweeter however the second attempt didn't improve the taste.
