Cafe del Vino

We had a mostly disappointing experience when we dined here. first, the $19.00 Spagetti Bolognese was very dry, we asked for some sauce on the side, to which $5.00 was added to our bill. We ordered Mondavi, and caught the owner pouring the house red (which was brought to our table) The Caesar salad was tiny, and the "house special" lobster was served, which amounted to HALF of a very small tail, one small claw and three or four legs. The flavor of the sauce was tasty, but for $32.00 it was a true disappointment. Then after all this, we get the bill with 20% added to the total, which was insulting considering the long talk we had with the owner about our working on Maui in the industry for many years. The bottom line is this is not an honest place, and when you serve a dry pasta, dont charge someone $5.00 extra for a little sauce. To top it off, he stated that he offered "kaamaina" discounts, and when I asked him about it, he stated that the "early bird" is your discount. What a crock, we will never go back to this little scam restaurant, there are much better choices in Maalaea, places that actually value their customers. Peace.

Pizza Madness Maui

We were here over the summer and ordered a large Hawaiian pizza (ham and pineapple). The pizza was crispy, the ham was excellent, and they used Maui pineapples which made for one of the best pizzas we´ve ever had! The atmosphere of the restaurant is also nice. The wooden walls with weird artwork reminded me a little of Pirates of the Caribbean for some reason. It was just a casual, rustic place along the main road next tot he beach. The restaurant itself is indoors (don´t go if you are imagining beautiful views or nice patio seating). A great place to take the family if you are craving pizza!

Fabiani’s food will fit everybody’s pallet because no matter what you order it will taste scrumptious! We ate breakfast there yesterday: two eggs, home fries, wheat toast and bacon—don’t forget the coffee! All of this food for $10.00! Now we’re talkin’ filling fare for foodies at a reasonable price. Try pizza at the bar for Happy Hour between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.for half price! Yeah!Go there—get whatever you want. Fabiani’s (in Kihei) will make your day—or night!

Tanpopo

Well, I typically do not eat Italian outside my house, but I wanted to give this place a try. I was not disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient, the appearance is simple but sleek and reflect what I would expect from a Japanese style place. There is no clutter, despite being a small single room place, and it appears to be clean and efficient.First came the Amuse bouche, a palate cleanser, like they call it. Pleasant surprise! The Spicy tuna Bruschetta (technically a crostini not a bruschetta) was fantastic!! I could eat a ton of those! Perfect balance of flavor, heat and texture. The Tuna Poke was also very good, even though it left me craving for some starchy rice at the bottom of the bowl to collect those yummy juices and provide an aesthetically pleasing color contrast on the dark bowl! The Chicken parmigiana and the salad were as expected. The dessert: we had chocolate mousse. Was also good. I would have liked a creamier mousse, a little richer in chocolate flavor. The prices are extremely reasonable and I felt I got a good value for my money. I will definitely go back to try some more items from this bizarre combination of Japanese and Italian flavors. Well done Tanpopo!
