Where to eat Fusion food in Billings: The Best Restaurants and Bars

October 16, 2019 Enriqueta Cusson

Find out what Fusion restaurants to try in Billings. Lewis & Clark, Custer, Sitting Bull and Calamity Jane may be long gone, but they are not forgotten in Billings. Museums, galleries and landmarks honoring these legendary characters from the Old West dot the city, making it a history buff's dream destination. Surrounded by six breathtaking mountain ranges, Billings also offers plenty of opportunities for fresh air recreation, including hiking, biking, golf and viewing rare Montana wildlife. Spend time at the Western Heritage Center, an interactive museum full of clothing and remarkable artifacts from the Yellowstone River Valley. In the early 1900s, the railroad brought wealth to Billings and testaments of this prosperity are still standing. Be sure to visit the regal Moss Mansion, designed by architect H.J. Hardenbergh (who also designed the Waldorf-Astoria and Plaza Hotels in New York City). In the more modern realm, MetraPark offers horse racing, rodeos, concerts, fairs and other types of entertainment everyone will enjoy. And kids of all ages will enjoy the animals and games at ZooMontana.

Wild Ginger

Wild Ginger is very convenient to The Northern Hotel, and Asian sounded good, so I wandered over one night during my Billings stay. I won't return. They seated me at the bar which was fine for a single diner, but classic 80's music blared loudly. My request to have it changed or turned down was denied because "it's the manager's favorite." My curry seemed quite bland, despite the server assuring me that their food was "very authentic and not at all Americanized." I asked for, and got, several spice containers brought to the bar so that I would jazz up my food. You know things are "off" when a customer asks to remake the dish himself. Strangest by far was an electrician who showed up to fix a pump for the large aquarium, laid the machine directly on the bar, took out his tool box, and proceeded to repair the dirty pump just two feet from where my food and drink sat. I assumed that staff would ask him to take his work elsewhere, but no one said a word. Clearly all the servers knew him well and chatted amiably with him as he drilled away and loudly retested the pump. Given the way my request to lower the music was received, I knew better than to say more. Next trip to Billings, I will take my patronage to one Billings' other great downtown restaurants.

J P Kitchen opened in September of 2015. Our family built and opened the Jade Palace in October of 1988, which after 25 plus years of serving Billings closed its doors in March of 2015. From there we sought to open J P Kitchen. Our goal at J P Kitchen is

I used to eat at the Jade Palace and before that at the restaurant on Grand that the owner's parents were a part of. I didn't go here at first because our daughter has been diagnosed with Celiac's so we weren't eating out and she is usually who I eat with at Oriental Restaurants. When I found out they had a decent gluten free menu we tried it and it was great. Not as big portions as before but a very classy and nice place.

The beef curry is tasty and the various sushi rolls we tried were on point. The Dragon Roll was my favorite. I also like the baked tempura roll that had salmon on top. We will definitely be back again!
