La Raffinerie

Recommended by my friends at Chateau Mouton Rothschild, this is a great new addition to the somewhat sparse selection of restaurants in the Medoc. Easy to pass by, as it looks like a transport café on the edge of and industrial park, but definitely worth trying. Modern décor so not a "traditional" looking place for the wine country, but the food is excellent. Innovative variations on traditional local food. On top of that, service was extraordinary. We arrived with only 45 minutes to eat before we had to get to Chateau Lafite Rothschild for a visit. Despite our taking a long time to order, they cheerfully got our food out quickly but not rushed, and we were done in time to be just respectably late at Lafite. Only one negative, the A/C was not up to the 104F temperatures, but I doubt there were many places of this type that fared better today! This is definitely on our list of recommended restaurants for our Bordeaux tours.

Touring Bordeaux and wine country? Tired of the usual foie gras, duck and duck and foie gras. This new Vietnamese restaurant half a block off the Quai in Pauillac is excellent. The “nem” was perfect. Rice noodle soup with duck (you only get so far away from it) and shitakes was excellent. Worth the stop for a quick lunch.

3 courses menu for 15 Euros and the portions were copious! Simple dishes but they tasted very good indeed. Nothing to complain about!I haven't ordered wine but this restaurant's wine list is very interesting with some great choices of local wines. This place is more than recommended - my opinion.

We were recommended this bistrot by one of the wineries we had visited. It is well located on the roadside in the village of St Julien. The welcome was friendly and the service efficient. The food was very good. The pate, baked Camembert and the daily special fish of tuna steaks well cooked and presented. The wine recommended by the server was also very good. All in all a nice relaxing and speedy lunch in Haut Medoc.

A recent reviewer said "average and expensive." From our perspective it was fantastic and reasonably priced, particularly considering the quality of the meal. Mouth watering truffle ravioli, lamb with a garlic sauce that made the plate levitate for me and a chocolate dessert that was pretty close to heaven.I don't think there are a massive number of alternatives in the immediate area, and I don't think you need one. Great place.

From the outside it looks okay, same from the inside. But the food..... wow! Amazingly great food. And in large amounts.Lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection, moist and very tasty. The Landaise salad was very tasty and big. But the chocolate mousse was by far one of the best we’ve ever eaten.Service was fast, very friendly and efficient. A place to return to.merci les Ecossais

We four chose from a fixed prix menu at 28 euro. The style is more toward nouvelle. To start we had herring with warm potatoes and pickled carrots for two choices and the alternative egg mimosa: deviled egg with eel rillette and vegetable coulis for the other two in our group. Next there was lemon sole with a foamy meuniere sauce and gentle meat broth at the bottom and a layer of pureed herbs on the top and barigoule artichokes. The other second course was had by one in our party and consisted of a perfectly cooked roasted lamb leg with rosemary sauce and eggplant and ricotta canellonis. For desert we all four had the panna cotta which was a little overcooked. That was unfortunate because it slightly distracted from an otherwise excellent preparation. The panna cotta was covered with an "exotic" coulis which was definitely mostly passion fruit and delicious. There was a nicely complimentary sorbet which was advertised as passion fruit but some at our table thought had at least some mango flavor. Service wasn't bad but not up to the level of the cooking. Because of some ragged features of the service and the overcooked but otherwise delicious panna cotta it fell just short of a 5 rating. Still it was the best meal we had in our three day Bordeaux stay.

We stayed at the lovely Chateau Cordeillan-bages during harvest and visited other chateaus as well. The Chateau has numerous parlors where you can relax and read. It also has a great pool for laps and a nice gym. Our room had a private patio and though it wasn't a beautifully decorated room, it was comfortable. The bathroom had clarins toiletries and great water pressure in the shower. Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant over looking their vineyards. Nice breakfast with everything available. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and thought it was a nice experience with all of their amuse-bouches and sorbets between courses, but neither of us thought our entrees were spectacular. I had the monkfish and my husband had the lamb. The appetizers and desserts were fantastic...as was our bottle of wine.

What a find! We were randomly driving around north of Pauillac. We were hungry but beginning to believe aliens had abducted all the people. All the shops were closed. None of the villages we passed through showed any signs of life.We rounded the corner on the main road through Saint-Seurin and finally saw a restaurant that was open for lunch. We did not expect much. Instead we got a delightful meal with terrific service. They serve only set menus. For lunch there was a choice of 14 or 30 Euro menus. We opted for the 14 Euro three course lunch. The quality of the food surprised us for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a small village. We were quite late for lunch. They were sold out of one of the mains for the 14 Euro menu. Without any hesitation the waiter offered my wife her choice of anything from the 30 Euro menu.We had white wine by the glass. We went with the waiter's suggestion of a nearby white, even though the region is only really known for its reds. It was a perfect wine for a hot afternoon and reasonably priced. I never bothered to look at the wine list so cannot comment. Price for an overfilling three-course meal for two including a glass of wine each - 40 Euros.
