I did extensive research before deciding to plan a large dining party in Baltimore and chose this restaurant in the end, due to the fantastic reviews. While I will admit that they have some strengths at the restaurant, I think that these reviews are incredibly inflated, after the experience I had there. The food was decent, and the best dish I tasted that night was the octopus appetizer. It was tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. It was prepared well with accompaniments that actually added to the taste and mouthfeel. I took the server's recommendation for entree and had the scallops. They were tender and cooked well. However the accompanying squash puree and Swiss chard were so strong and heavy that they drowned out the delicate flavor of the scallops. I think that this dish died by design, and with more thought could be much better. The main issue I had with the service was the fact that in the middle of our dinner- soon after the entrees were served I was presented with the bill and told "we're closing now." This was a shock, as there was no warning whatsoever about the kitchen closing, or even the bar. So we were never given the opportunity to order dessert or anything more. I had made plans with the management far in advance and they knew this was a special event I was planning. Anyone in such a position should have known that we would want to dine later and if we couldn't would at least warn us before the kitchen closed- let alone the whole restaurant. We had been waiting for the dessert menu and without warning they just kicked us out and closed the restaurant. I believe this could have been handled much better and IMO it is a sign of poor management. This is not a restaurant I can bring myself to ever consider trying again, considering the experience I had.

Great place for breakfast (all day on the weekends). Can recommend the Captain Crunch French toast and the Sweet Baby Jesus (Crab, hash browns, eggs, hollandaise sauce). Very small so be flexible when arriving. We were there at 9am Monday morning, not that crowded but Sunday afternoon the line was way out the door. Not sure whats up with the decor (every celebrity portrait was ghoulish, except Johnny Cash...)

We took breakfast here during a stay in Baltimore and were sufficiently pleased with it to come back a second time. There isn't a vast choice on the menu, but it's quite sufficient even for multiple visits. The food was very good, ample portions without being ridiculous. Coffee was good, refills provided quickly. Price was reasonable. Service was friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. Tables are sufficiently far apart that you don't feel crowded by other diners. No sense of pressure to move on when you had finished eating, felt you could stay there and ant chat all morning if you wished to. The decor is a bit quirky, makes it feel casual and relaxed. Couldn't ask for more.

This place is tucked away just off the beaten path. Find a way to visit! It’s well-marked once you find Water Street. Tiny, quaint with great local menu options. The shrimp and grits were recommended by the waitress and they were fantastic! Came out hot with a biscuit. Add the hot sauce they offer! This place is a must-visit I’m downtown Baltimore!
