I have eaten in this restaurant two times. My first impression had been that the cooking was good but the portion size was small. I ordered veal medallions and consumed the entirety in about 3-4 minutes. Fortunately, I wasn't very hungry; otherwise, I would have needed to have ordered 3 or 4 portions, The first time I ate alone but the second time I came with friends. I had to change my opinion about the cooking. Two ordered salmon steak (syomga) but the fish was overcooked. Another ordered salmon (losos'), which, I think, was steamed. That was great (I tasted it) but it came on a bed of pureed mush of potato and pumpkin - this garnier I found, frankly, unappetizing, if not a bit revolting. I ordered pork ribs; portion was small, although slightly greater in size than the medallions had been; not bad but a little dry, and I certainly have had far better (for example in Okolica). First round of strawberry glintvine was super; second was mediocre; but that was probably because the bartender used a cheaper wine the second time around. Bottle of mediocre dry Chilean red wine. Entirely skippable bottle. Overall, I am unlikely to eat here again (a better nearby option is Zdybanka).

I have been several times to Yapi. Clearly, this is the best sushi venue in Sumy but also the most expensive. However, the extra money is worth it. I recommend the sushi. I particularly favor ordinary salmon (not smoked) and grouper (morskoy okun' in Russian, namera in Japanese). Even in Kiev I cannot often find grouper, which is one of my favorites. I also like eel; however, the last time around at Yapi, the sauce on the eel was too sweet for my taste. At 55 grn per piece, I expected better but cannot really complain too much, Previously I had ordered eel sashimi and the sauce had been just right. Ordered previously cooked dishes (e.g. teriyaki, soup fo) but was not impressed. Strangely, no tempura. I bought half a kilo of caviar at Silpo supermarket across the street in Manufaktura mall and fortified the sushi with it. For an order of sushi on the magnitude of 45 pieces, expect to wait almost one hour even if the restaurant is nearly empty. Place is often dead and devoid of customers. There is a discount of 25% when four or more friends eat together (on Tuesday evenings only). Ambiance is not Japanese but more like upscale McDonalds seating and no different from the adjoining pizzeria Simbiosi in atmosphere. (In fact, I would rate the atmosphere in Simbiosi higher.) Plan on paying about 1000grn (at thencurrent exchange rate of 27.5 grn to the dollar) per adult excluding alcohol and tip. Neither Japanese beer nor plum wine are available. I am more impressed with the sushi here than in Murakami or in Sushiya in Kiev,

Only sampled pasta: pasta with chicken and mushroom and pasta with salmon. The pasta with chicken and mushroom being vastly superior to the pasta with salmon. The chef cut the salmon into microscopic pieces - not impressed. Portion sizes of both were small. Friends ordered whole baked fish. Fish seems to be a better choice than pasta at this venue. The summer terrace is fine. After eating the pasta, I decided better self-cater from Silpo buying caviar, fresh baked bread and butter!Service is friendly but expect to wait a while for what you order.Inexpensive venue but then again an example of getting what you pay for.
