You should definitely try their cool mushroom soup. And the desserts in the menu are extremely delicious. Carrot cake, cheese cake and you can also ask a waiter about their new positions. An interior is in pastel green colors, which make it very fresh and calm. So, now it’s my favorite place to eat in Sumy and I, of course, I recommend it to you

A cozy cafe in the historic center of the city. An interesting basic menu and a wide range of desserts for every taste.

A relaxing venue but becoming busy as it's popularity grows. Good service, generally, but it depends who the wait staff are at the time too. Very nice desserts (though I've only tasted 2 or 3, but the rest look good), and the couple of times I've had a meal, they've proved to be tasty. Only one real complaint, the pasta is overcooked, unfortunately a common reality but maybe it's just my taste too because others (locals) seem to like it that way. A very minor complaint, why can I get a gigantic, and delicious Latte, but only a regular size cappuccino? I've been four times now, and will go again!

The first impression when you enter the restaurant is very poor - the design is almost perceptibly cheap colorless beige with some carpets hinting at Azerbaijan heritage. However there is nice seating outside when it is warm. Menu is quite big, with good variety of Caucausian food. However, service is merely acceptable. It took ages to cook the food while restaurant was empty, waiter was bringing latte for at least 20 min. My veal steak was delivered half cold and was cooked as rare though they did not even ask how I want it to be cooked. Good quality of food but served in uncomlimentary way.

We stayed overnight at this complex, so decided to have a dinner there. There were no available chairs outdoors, but that was even for better - there is loud overlapping music from several cafes near the river. We were initially proposed a table near a stove (which was too hot) and we asked to reserve another table when somebody leaves, which was provided by the administrator. The place was at the very end, so we had to wave to a waitress to get noticed :) Other than that everything was brilliant, especially food and drinks - both prepared extremely tasty!Request 10% discount if you are staying at the complex hotel.

La Spezia

Came for supper mid-week with getting a table posing no problem and with a 6-year-old child, the waitresses really turned on the charm. In short, good first impression walking in. Like one of those Italians who wrote a critical review, I was not impressed by the menu. Unless you have a Michelin chef better to stick with the basics and not be too inventive. Chicken bouillon with noodles -- soup - does it get more basic than chicken soup? Sorry, I don't want black pasta in my chicken soup. I entirely reject black pasta actually. Whose clever idea? Anyway I removed the offending items and what remained was chicken in water -- seemed to lack any spice. No flavor to speak of. Would have been tastier even had the chef dropped in a chicken broth cube from a supermarket shelf like Knorr or Gallina Blanca! Okay, you get it - dish not recommended. This of course was not a good start -- if simpler dishes cannot be managed, then what about the more complicated?Let's move on to the pasta. Well, as the Italian noted, a basic like spaghetti with tomato sauce or spaghetti with meat balls, was not on the menu but a number of items are listed - one of which is spaghetti bolognese. Out it came and, instantly, it didn't look very impressive. For starters, portion size appeared small - doubt it was 250grams but, unfortunately, I didn't bring a scale. Taste was better than it looked but it was not meaty enough and, according to my palate, the recipe was not spot on in terms of the sauce: not the worst I've eaten but far, far from the best. One of my Ukrainian friends, who has visited Italy three summers in a row, touted the ossobucco. Of the three dishes I ordered, this was the best - although it was not quite ossobucco. First, the meat requires a joint in which you can find marrow and that is an important part of the dish. In this rendition, there was no bone. Second, the sauce was too onion-y and lacked, for the most part sauce based on tomato and white wine. Absolutely I don't want my ossobucco swimming in liquid but some gravy of thickness is requisite. Needs to be served with risotto, noodles or mashed potatoes. No such sides. Probably should have asked for the baked potato. Waitress recommended fries (!!) but I declined. (Actually, the kid ordered fries and the fries looked great.)Now my Ukrainian friend who recommended the ossobucco pulled a fast one not ordering it for himself but instead ordering a steak for 200 grn, $8 at today's rather unfavorable exchange rate. A good chunk of meat at a reasonable price. He was eminently satisfied. Perhaps I did not order the best of what is on offer at this establishment? (Last time I patronized La Spezia, admitted 3-4 years ago, I ordered pizza and was wholly not satisfied.)One silver lining was the dessert. The tiramisu was fantastic. Coffee dust sprinkled on fresh mascarpone -- some coffee beans sprinkled on the side -- this was a real treat after successive doses of culinary mediocrity. I might well patronize La Spezia again but I probably would try the steak and would certainly skip over all I ordered during the aforementioned supper except for the tiramisu. Still, for all my misgivings, in terms of Italian food in Sumy, the culinary offerings of this establishment towers over whats on offer at the Trattoria Viva Olive on Kharkovskaya and the new menu of Portofino. One final observation: prices at La Spezia are reasonable and most likely for that reason, the establishment can get crowded on weekends.

I have eaten in this restaurant two times. My first impression had been that the cooking was good but the portion size was small. I ordered veal medallions and consumed the entirety in about 3-4 minutes. Fortunately, I wasn't very hungry; otherwise, I would have needed to have ordered 3 or 4 portions, The first time I ate alone but the second time I came with friends. I had to change my opinion about the cooking. Two ordered salmon steak (syomga) but the fish was overcooked. Another ordered salmon (losos'), which, I think, was steamed. That was great (I tasted it) but it came on a bed of pureed mush of potato and pumpkin - this garnier I found, frankly, unappetizing, if not a bit revolting. I ordered pork ribs; portion was small, although slightly greater in size than the medallions had been; not bad but a little dry, and I certainly have had far better (for example in Okolica). First round of strawberry glintvine was super; second was mediocre; but that was probably because the bartender used a cheaper wine the second time around. Bottle of mediocre dry Chilean red wine. Entirely skippable bottle. Overall, I am unlikely to eat here again (a better nearby option is Zdybanka).

Good service, menu is in both Ukrainian and English language, so I could read it but my wife could not, for a change! Lovely helpful waitress who spoke very good English too. Didn't like the grumpy looking blonde lady who must have been the boss, always walking around with a frumpy look on her face - the least she could do was smile like her staff were doing. Food was good to excellent, we didn't go top end in the ordering, a delicious hamburger, salad, veggies and grilled prawns, but we did lash out on desserts which were awesome. My second time at this establishment, the first for a business lunch which has a set price restricted menu and is truly excellent value. All up, really good, next time we'll be trying the steaks.
