One way from Manufaktura shopping center to Drova (pronounced "Drava" because the accent is on the second vowel "a" and not on the first vowel "o") will set you back 120 griven (about $5 dollars using the current exchange rate). The question worth positing is it worth the effort to get out there? The menu features many delectible Ukrainian/Russian choices but the great problem is that more than half of what is on the menu is simply not available. Asked for uxa (seafood soup). Answer: not available. Asked them for soup s frikadelkami (meatballs). Sorry no meatballs today. Settled for chicken soup s lapshoy (with noodles). I was pleased with the taste but not with the quantity - portion size was too small. Asked for lula kebab. Sorry no kebab, Ordered shashlyk (BBQ) of pork (the only kind available). I enjoyed the shashlyk although it was a bit chewy and could have been juicier. Did like the spicy sauce it came with (though doubt most Ukrainians could stomach its spiciness). I also enjoyed the dranniki (potato pancakes) with bacon and mushroom that the very amiable waitress recommended. Ordered, however, chicken kiev and told -- no cutlets today. Moreover, I did not like at all the nastoiki (shots of home-made vodka preparation). [The klukva (cranberry flavored vodka) at Okolica is much better.] Nor did I like mors (non-alcoholic berry drink) - it was way too sour and would need to be sweetened to be palatable. You probably have seen that photo depicting a salmon salad on this tripadvisor webpage for Drova. We actually ordered that one. However, it was spoiled by a "dressing" that appeared to be a combination of soy sauce and vinegar. Better to ask for it dry.In Ukraine, unfortunately, there is some ridiculous fixation to drip soy sauce on most fish and meat dishes. Same here when we ordered skumbriya (mackeral), which, admittedly, is not my favorite but that was the fish on offer. Not a particular memorable entree but edible.Ordered for dessert apple and cherry strudel (three of each). Had to wait nearly an hour for the strudel and no, the chef didn't drip soy sauce on the strudel but rather chocolate sauce and, you probably guessed it, this spoiled the strudel. (I detest chocolate sauce.) Again part and parcel of the same mentality prevalent in and propagated by Ukrainian culinary institutes involving dripping of liquids on foods as if it is a distinguishing mark or artistic flair of a Ukrainian-version of a michelin-star chef -- some kind of fixation with ornamentation that putatively enhances presentation even if, in the worst case, it renders the dish inedible to those averse to the particular liquid embellishment. Vanilla Ice cream that came with the strudel I consumed along with the three pieces of strudel not doused in chocolate sauce. The vanilla ice cream was fine but the cherry was tastier than the apple strudel. Cheese cake was better than strudel and at least it, thankfully, did not come with any offensive dousing of chocolate sauce! The outdoor seating in the summer weather is arrayed in an attractive setting whereas the interior dining room is smallish with few tables without much ambiance to speak of. Back to the original question: would I go back to Drova again? I just might do that but I would certainly call first to verify that they have the dishes that I would like to eat (that appear on the menu) in actuality (e.g. lula kebab, chicken kiev). Of course, for those who have not previously seen the menu in situ, how to inquire about dishes is complexified in the absent of any restaurant website detailing the menu. In conclusion, basic ingredients in terms of the food on offer are good; the chef need only be instructed to refrain from using unappetizing salad dress (soy-vinegar) and to stop dousing dishes with either soy or chocolate sauce.

Restaurant - brewery, where brewed kraft beer and delicious dishes of Ukrainian cuisine

Not just a venue for beer and sausages. Items on offer are extensive and, if you actually get what you order, tends to be quite delicious. Started with chebureki (pastries filled with meat and/or other savories), both lamb and moist meat (combination of pork and beef) - both excellent but preferred the latter a shade over the former. Each order comes with four chebureki so beware about ordering too much beyond your ability to consume. Next came the pork ribs on the bone -- tasty but the problem is that the fat content was a bit overwhelming so it was almost like indulging in salo (pork fat "butter") so I cannot recommed that dish. Much better was the pork on the bone, essentially a pork chop, listed on the menu as vrazh. shmat.I think had I been alone and asked for the check at that point, I would have given this venue four stars. One companion ordered pork shashlik and it came out after 1/2 hour; another ordered the same but the wait time was 1 1/2 hours. The waitress simply forgot that part of the order but could not admit to that. On the plus side, both dinner guests remarked that the shashlik was delicious.Initially, just two of us ordered ice cream. However, it was brought out half melted and we balked. This started an altercation with the waitress maintaining that this is how ice cream is served in this establishment because of the incapacities of the freezer unit. I was having none of this and told her that ice cream the world over is served frozen -- hence the term ice -- if we wanted milk shakes, we would have accordingly ordered.Of course, the ice cream is served half melted because the establishment is too cheap to turn on the airconditioning for the comfort of its patrons. On the second floor it had to have at least been 30 degrees centigrade. For that reason, I would avoid this place in the summer unless you are accustomed to sweating and eating.Anyway, our waitress MARINA USTINENKO, brunette with a tattoo on her arm, got fed up with us and, in place of her, we got the waiter PASHA, who turned out to be acquianted with one of our crowd and was much more attentive to our needs than Miss USTINENKO, who, paradoxically, took issue with the chairs that our 5th and 6th party members elected for hosting their posteriors on account of putative blocked egress yet, two tables down, some guests elected the same without any fuss on her part. Seems to have worked out better with PASHA -- he even brought out a chocolate cake slab topped with ice cream that was not melty (although the caramel ice cream was just as melty as the vanilla we initially ordered). Drank various beers brewed on site (all were good) as well as some nastoiki (home brewed flavored vodkas) each of shots of 50grams. Not bad but would skip the one based on hren (essentially white wasabe horseradish) unless you have masochistical inclinations. The establishment is huge with two levels and a large outdoor eating veranda off the second floor. However, only the interior of the restaurant is well decorated -- embellishments lost if eating al fresco. On the first level there is a children's play area, which is useful if you are dining with a young family member.

We tried to visit this place in the Sunday noon. After we took the place outdoors and waved to a waitress after few minutes of waiting (which was OK) - she made the face like "OMG, what they forgot here..." or like we did not pay for previous dining :) When she silently put a menu on the table I said "Good morning", she silently turned around and went away. Of course, there were no a single reason to stay anymore at this place and we left.

I have eaten in this restaurant two times. My first impression had been that the cooking was good but the portion size was small. I ordered veal medallions and consumed the entirety in about 3-4 minutes. Fortunately, I wasn't very hungry; otherwise, I would have needed to have ordered 3 or 4 portions, The first time I ate alone but the second time I came with friends. I had to change my opinion about the cooking. Two ordered salmon steak (syomga) but the fish was overcooked. Another ordered salmon (losos'), which, I think, was steamed. That was great (I tasted it) but it came on a bed of pureed mush of potato and pumpkin - this garnier I found, frankly, unappetizing, if not a bit revolting. I ordered pork ribs; portion was small, although slightly greater in size than the medallions had been; not bad but a little dry, and I certainly have had far better (for example in Okolica). First round of strawberry glintvine was super; second was mediocre; but that was probably because the bartender used a cheaper wine the second time around. Bottle of mediocre dry Chilean red wine. Entirely skippable bottle. Overall, I am unlikely to eat here again (a better nearby option is Zdybanka).

Good menu with dishes not strictly limited to Georgian cuisine with influences from neighboring Caucasian countries. Very much liked the lamb kofte meatball soup reputed of Azeri origin called bozbash. I found it to be delicious along with some adjika and lavash bread. However, the hashlama soup lacked equivalent flavor and the meat was quite tough, the cutting of which would require a serrated knife if not a power tool!I think this restaurant has potential and offers an alternative to Mimino and Alaverdi (which have identical menus) that for too long have monopolized the Georgian food restaurant scene in Sumy.
