I wanted to try this place after reading reviews, and was glad we did. We've never had tonkatsu before and our server kindly and patiently - but not patronizingly - helped us order and explained how to make the sauce, etc. The food was great, particularly the fried pork itself, which was outstanding. A great experience.

The best deep fried chicken wings! Banh Mi sandwiches that were bursting with flavor, textures and fillings. Vermicelli noodle dishes that you cannot stop eating. A very interesting wine, beer, saki, and liquor menu. A bright open space that is a complete contradt to the very plain storefront. Absolutely worth the efgort.

Consistently voted as one of Hawaii's best restaurants, James Beard award-winning Chef Alan Wong uses the freshest locally grown produce and the bounty of the Pacific Ocean to create local favorites with a contemporary twist. Inspired by the unique ethnic
I have Celiac Disease and require gluten free food. Alan Wong's staff was knowledgable and communicated clearly and confidently with me and the kitchen. There were many gluten free options available and the kitchen was willing to make modifications when possible. We started with the Tomato salad which was incredible and unlike anything I have ever had! Order it! The kitchen was able to make the Ginger Sea Bass gluten free and it was incredible! (my husband loved the short ribs, not GF but looked great!). And almost everything on the dessert menu was GF. Both the Pineapple "Shave Ice" and "The Coconut" were amazing! The quality of food, the presentation, and the service make this place worth every penny! If we ever return to Honolulu, we will eat here again!

My son and I made a quick trip to Hawaii to relax before he began school. We arrived in HNL, changed clothes and headed directly for Marukame. It was so hot and humid (89/75% humidity) outside and their Udon is the only hot soup I would ever consider eating in such heat! They make fresh noodles right in front of you, and their broth is like no other! They offer all kinds of individual tempura sticks (I had shrimp) to go with the soup. SOOO Yummy! We even went back for one more bowl but found they had closed for renovations! They're prices are so low ($3.65) regular sized bowl, I would pay triple for their delicious soup and we definitely visit next time I'm in Hawaii!

I had breakfast there on a Monday morning around 9:30 AM, and there was no wait for a table for two. The food was delicious (especially the french toast) and the portions are ample. The waiter was efficient in taking our order, but his demeanor was very aloof. I would expect friendlier service in a restaurant like this. We literally left without our waiter or the hostess saying "Thank you" or even giving us a smile. There are plenty of busy restaurants with equally delicious and inventive food where the staff are happy to have customers, so I am not sure I will be back.

Voted one of Oahu's best by Honolulu Star Advertiser 7 consecutive years, BANZAI Sushi Bar is truly one of Haleiwa's best kept secrets. Tucked away in a back corner of the North Shore Marketplace, casual fine dinning, outdoor covered seating with Japanese
Might be the best sushi or poke on the island of Oahu. If you are not into raw fish they also have other dishes. Seating is either Japanese style, cushions on the floor or at tables. The service was excellent. Nice drive to get there up the North Shore.

In a very casual, rustic order-at-counter restaurant setting with limited seating, the Shack provided outstanding food from coconut shrimp to steak to kalbi shortribs. The entire family of 12, including adults and teenagers, all enjoyed the food. Super ambiance although very casual. Must visit!

We decided to venture out of the tourist strip to lucky belly for dinner and so glad we did! The food is so good! We ate far too much because we couldnât stop with the flavours. We shared the oxtail dumplings, bao buns the chicken salad and the ramen, between 2 people, far too much! But the lovely waitress did offer to package it up for us to take away. Itâs not an area if like to stroll around in but there are some cool bars across the road as well.

Excellent meal in a modern contemporary setting with a great menu. While we weren't bowled over by the taste of delightfully presented appetizer sampler, I loved the grilled New Zealand King Salmon with Spicy Pineapple and she loved the Miso Chilean Sea Bass. The honey cream pineapple, berries and sorbetto finished the meal nicely. The atmosphere was friendly and the service very attentive. It was an excellent experience end to our vacation.

Poke is one of our most favorite traditional Hawaiian dish, and we have taken this classic dish and put several twists to it. We use ahi, salmon, kajiki, shrimp, octopus, scallop and tofu with different mixtures including seaweed, onions, kale and more to
First time trying Poke and I was a little uneasy since I have a shellfish allergy. Luckily there's no major fallout when I do have shellfish by mistake. Of course I stayed away from the shellfish options and instead opted for the salmon and fresh ahi. It was great. The food was still good after 2 days. The atmosphere is really nice but I took my food to go. I didn't understand what one of the sauces were so I asked an employee, but I don't think they understood what I was saying in English so I got what I thought would taste best. Honolulu has a large Japanese / Asian population. It was very easy to order (if you know what you want). Located in the prime of real estate in Wakiki. Very vibrant area.
