We looked for some place to eat which would not be upscale but solid in terms of food, quality and reviews. This restaurant is in the middle of some shopping area, probably, would not have found it were it not for the reviews. We didn't see too many tourists, seemed mostly locals, which is a good sign for us. Menu is extensive and we ordered the short ribs, curry noodles and a pork dish. Must say food tasted amazing. Definitely an Asian/Philippine twist, perfectly seasoned and good portions. Very efficient service and nice staff. Good valu for money considering you are in Maui.

Japengo is located just off of the lobby of the Hyatt Regency and above the swim up bar and waterfall. It is an open air restaurant with a laid back, relaxed atmosphere.We ordered the Seafood Udon, the Seafood Chow Fun, Kobacha and a Prawn and Mango Salad. We had eaten here previously and felt it was acceptable, a few years ago. This time we ordered takeout, 3 rolls. The Tempura roll had tempura that wasn't freshly prepared in it. The Spicy Salmon skin roll was OK and the unagi roll was fine, nothing special; the prices seemed high for the quality. We come from the San Francisco Bay area where we get excellent, fresh sushi frequently (even served at our wedding), so expected this to continue to be high quality, but not to be. We gave this a rating of poor, because the quality was average but the price was not worth it.

We read all the positive reviews and were not disappointed. This place is great if your looking to try a variety of different things. We just kept ordering various items and they continued to bring them out fairly quickly. We enjoyed everything that was brought out. Service was excellent as well.

We arrived on Maui in the afternoon, checked into our hotel and made our way to Sansei Sushi for our first meal. It did not disappoint. I had read to be in line 15 minutes before opening time. If you have reservations, stand in the line to the right, if you donât stand in the line to the left. We did have reservations and got right in. We wanted to do the happy hour which is 25% off. Be prepared to order quick though. You only have a certain window to get your food ordered. We had a number of dishes and all were fantastic. Butter fish and calamari were standouts. Their Flying Fish Roe/Tobiko Nigiri was a dream come true! (pic attached).A wonderful way to start our weeklong magical stay in Maui!Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to post your excellent review and comments. We appreciate them very much. First visit to Azeka's. We had always wanted to try but hadn't gotten around to it. They have a large menu. Most people get it to go because they only have a bar to sit at and a few outdoor tables. It was very warm inside with no air. The staff were very helpful and our food came out pretty quickly. The lemon chicken with capers, rice and grilled vegetables was really wonderful. Thanks for a good meal.

For our last meal on island, we stopped at Miso Phat. We ordered the Miso Phat roll and the TNT roll, Kanpachi nigiri, and Hamachi nigiri. The Miso Phat Roll is Spicy Tuna roll wrapped with Unagi and avocado, topped with Tobiko, Unagi sauce & Sesame Seeds. REALLY tasty. The TNT Roll is Shrimp Tempura and Crab roll topped with Ahi Poke and served with Unagi sauce and Agave Honey. The poke is seriously fantastic. Both are specialty rolls and live up to the tag line of âso big you could explodeâ â when ordering, budget about a specialty roll per person unless youâre really hungry. The kanpachi was vey good. The Hamachi was mind blowing⦠seriously fresh and like butter. We have been ruined until our next visit. We need to remember to order the Hamachi sashimi next time and come with a larger appetite. Good service, nice people. Prices are Hawaii prices⦠if youâre not expecting them youâll be shocked. This said, they are island-normal and not obscene given the size of the rolls.

We were excited by Nutcharee's claim that the restaurant served authentic Thai food, i.e. Thai food like the food served in Thailand. The food was quite tasty but not similar at all to real Thai food. However, unlike the many very disappointing restaurants in Maui (or at least the Kihei area), the food was tasty so long as you put aside an expectation that it should really be like food in Thailand. Thus, with this weather major caveat, I recommend the restaurant and may even return for another meal.

We are a family of sushi lovers from the NYC area and have eaten at many of the best sushi restaurants in the world. The sushi prepared by Hiro was fantastic. The fish was incredibly fresh and rice was excellent. The environment reminded me of a sushi counter in Tokyo (to call it low key would be an understatement!). I would eat at this place everyday - if I could get a reservation! It's a small place (10-12 seat counter + 1 table for 4 or 5) so definitely call for a reservation (I think they take reservations up to 30 days in advance). The lead waitress/hostess (who I assume is Hiro's wife), was very friendly.
