Well-executed, delicious, and original cuisine. Welcoming, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. Inside ambiance was nice with original art (for purchase) and fireplace. Outdoor seating also available Reasonable prices for the quality of the food. I had the tataki (red tuna) and cream cheese filled nori rolls, with thin crispy puff pastry crust and soy-based sauce, on a bed of delicious marinated seaweed. The place is very cool! great and friendly environment and they have some delicioussss vegan/vegetarian options. The chef recommended the Vegan Nachos that were the speciality this evening and WOW, the best I had in years (even non vegans said so) and apart from all of that, all the team is super nice. If you're around, don't miss the opportunity and go check El Bar de Confianza!!! Congrats guys

It's been some time since we visited El Mercadito, but it still remains one of our favourite restaurants in Altea. As locals, we have plenty of choice when it come to dining, but we continue to bring visiting family and friends to this great dining experience.The food in El Mercadito is always 'top notch' and the service and ambience is equally as good. It provides a range of international cuisine and there is also choice for vegetarians and vegans.For this visit, four of us chose the baked salmon with roasted potatoes and a garnish of vegetables; wonderfully presented to entice the taste buds! Our fifth family member had the very flavoursome Asian noodle dish. We decided to add a couple of portions of the home-made patatas fritas, but the main dishes alone were quite sufficient! The salmon was (as always) cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. To follow, I was fortunate enough to have the last remaining portion of the scrumptious tiramisu, and the others thoroughly enjoyed their choice of mango sorbet. A couple of glasses of the Torrederos Roble 2016, were a great accompaniment to the meal!The owner and chef, Barry, continues to present a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend El Mercadito.

What a meal!! My husband & me had dinner here last night, on recommendation and it was absolutely delicious. We are huge Indian food lovers and we are knowledgeable about the cuisine and this beat them all! The lamb shank dish was exceptional; I can honestly say that it was the most flavoursome Indian/Nepalese dish that I have ever eaten. Gurkha, you should make this your signature dish!! negative: this is not the best sushi I have ever had and I didn't like that the prawns used in tempura or maki rolls are not deveined because they look particularly dirty. Perhaps they should use another variety.Positive: prompt and courteous service, very nice seating and very very good prices: so I graded very good because the value for money is excellent and i would gladly go back.

I walked past the kitchen which you pass on the the way up to the terrace and it looked filthy. If you look at the menu it is so extensive there is no way everything is freshly made. I had two dishes the the sauce was the same for chicken and red meat
