1921 Seafood

First time to 1921 Seafood in Houma. Have passed by there several times & saw that the place was packed. Now, I know why. It was Excellent! From the service to the delicious food I can't say enough about how great it was. Seafood is not "cheap" so you can't expect the price to be cheap. Prices were comparable to other seafood restaurants in the area. We sat at the oyster bar, received excellent service from Nicole & the other servers there (it didn't matter who you asked for something, they did it without hesitation). The beer was cold, the ray oysters were salty & shucked right in front of you. Saw some of the biggest oysters I have seen in my life being shucked. Thankfully, the ones we were served were a size that could actually fit in your mouth, lol.The boiled crawfish was some of the Best seasoned Crawfish I have had at a restaurant in Houma. The seasoning was spot on, enough spice to get your lips burning just a bit and nose starting to run (that was with sucking each crawfish head). If you didn't want as much spice, then simply don't suck all of the heads. There were some very large crawfish on the mix, but overall they were large sized Unfortunately, they had just ran out of the crabmeat stuffed jalapenos so we opted for a dozen of charbroiled oysters instead. They were delicious too! There was a band playing so that the environment lively and enjoyable. The servers were hustling & very attentive to asking @ needing another beer or if we wanted to order anything else.Left stuffed & extremely satisfied. Will certainly be a place to return to, especially to try the crabmeat stuffed jalepenos.Would highly recommend as a place to refer to locals & out of town visitors for some good food and a good time.

Outback Steakhouse

Reviewed By Chef-Donn-Gueniot

At the suggestion of several friends, we decided to go to Outback for a change of pace while out shopping this weekend. Well...I won't be taking dining suggestions from those friends again any time soon! First, the restaurant was very cold, like an icebox. I like the cold, but shivering while you are in a restaurant is a little excessive. Second, the service was extremely slow. It took 10 minutes just to get iced tea and the service went downhill from there. Third...we ordered our food to come out at the same time as our appetizer...which did not happen. We ordered after being seated for 18 minutes and our appetizer took another 20 minutes, then our salads another 10 minutes after that! The appetizer was very greasy and disgusting as it was not cooked properly... and the salad had way too much dressing. We literally could have added 2 more portions of lettuce. We won't be returning any time soon.

Our lodging is in a very rural area. To the point, I wondered where we would be able to eat. Fortunately on the back of the yellow check-in card, they had directions to a restaurant not too awfully far (about seven miles) away, the Bayou Delight Restaurant. The Bayou Delight is a small café just off the side of the road by the bayou. Inside it is rather plain and a bit decrepit (ceiling tiles a bit falling down; stuff stored here and there), but looked clean. There were pressed wood tables and booths scattered around a fairly large dining area. The menu was interesting. On the front it touted Cajun and Creole fare. But inside had American and Cajun. We began with Boudin Bites. These are little rice and sausage balls with spices, breaded and deep fried. Quite good. Then we got their Crab Cake Acadiana. These were crab cakes with a spicy crawfish gravy. The dish came with salad, bread and a hushpuppy. The crab cake was a bit bland. Felt like it was a bit bready (though I’ve had ‘genuine’ crab cakes before and they seemed a bit bready). Though the gravy was good. Just not enough of it. The bread, though small was tasty. The salad was just shredded lettuce and diced tomato. Unimpressive. The hush puppy was good. The dish felt a bit expensive for what we got. It was the most expensive meal of the trip so far. Still on the lookout for a good down-home Cajun meal.

Stopped in early Friday (5 pm). No problem parking tho place fills up fast. When we left, standing room waiting to be seated. Had a soft shell crab poboy ($17.00)I’d been wanting and husband had a fried shrimp poboy ($10.00)We split fries($2.00) which worked out great. The Abita Purple Haze beer ($3.50)was good and cold. Both poboys were good but we agreed the bread was not as desirable as a crunchy Leidenheimer’s would have been. Other folks said boiled crawfish were good, running at $7.50 a pound and regular boiled shrimp were $15.00 a pound. The fries we were very thin and had an almost sweet potato fry taste that I wasn’t crazy about. Service was good. I’d go back and try something boiled, but really wanted that soft shell crab poboy!

Drove over to Houma for dinner. The boudin balls were the best we have eaten on the trip!! Recommend. Nice atmosphere, music, narrative and jokes. The gumbo was packed with meat and dark roux, not to my taste. Potato salad was delicious. Catfish with crab atop was very good and the peanut butter pie was excellent and alone was worth the trip. Rating 3 stars for the service, which was atrocious. My husband had to get and chase someone down for crackers, for ketchup and to order dessert. We saw our waitress sitting down eating. Oh well.
