We ordered the supreme pizza which was loaded with toppings. This was probably a bad idea because the end results was lots of toppings and no pizza sauce; I felt I was eating vegetables on bread. The beer selection is pretty small. However, the staff was courtesy. I would look for a different pizzeria next time.

Not a particular fan of hot dogs, I'd driven past this busy little place many times. A friend talked about how much fun he had there, and another friend suggested we try it. Greeted cheerily, we were seated and given menus and suggestions about what we might want to order. The selection is limited, frankfurters and hamburgers mostly, with the usual sides, chips and fries. Staff was very friendly, prices great, and service efficient. The meals we had met expectations, and we've been back several times for the pleasant atmosphere.

Good for a nice lunch with a nice atmosphere. Had a chicken sandwich and was very good. Others built their own sandwiches and that was popular

Decided to dine out before work this morning. Had a taste for a good breakfast. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised at the meal I received. The pancakes were top notch, along with my scrambled cheese eggs and steak. I was very satisfied but wish that I had brought friends along to join me. I definitely will be returning to try other items on the menu. The owner stopped by my table and asked me if everything was okay. I told him that it couldn't be better! Excellent customer service. I will be back with my family and friends!

When we walked in there was a sour smell. So much so, we couldn't stay. I had ordered ice tea and my wife ordered water. When the waitress came back to take our order we told her were not staying but that I would pay for my ice tea. She walked off. We had to look up the price for the tea and I left her a $5 bill.

Patrons seated on either side of the bar counter, everybody was obviously ready and waiting for the new season's oysters. The shuckers moved quickly bringing in their pails. This was a return visit to this restaurant for us and our peck of steamed oysters were sweet and delicious. I tried the clam chowder first but was disappointed - canned cubed potatoes not a good idea. Chocolate Silk Pie was recommended for dessert - the perfect ending for those with a sweet tooth !

I stopped in here to take a chance on seafood at a great price. Glad I did. The place was packed with locals, clean, and the staff was friendly. My food was ready in no time and served hot. I chose the fried oysters and they were delicious. If you are in the area you have to stop here. Great food at a great price!

Pleasant, casual cafe type atmosphere. Nice view of the river. Very good crab cakes and the tuna steak was excellent. Decent variety on the menu. This place could use a bigger, better sign out front, but if you are from out of town, take the time to find this little gem.

The good reviews on TripAdviser caused me to seek out Hoppin' Johnz, but the lunch I had didn't live up to those praises. The Tobacco Straws starter appeared and tasted as if the deep fryer oil was too cool. They were oily and soggy; but, showed real potential if done right. People who order gumbo usually have a good idea of what to expect. That didn't arrive here. The chicken and sausage provided a clue this entree was prepared from something a food purveyor provided. The sausage and chicken seemed to have been freeze dried, because they were so lacking in moisture as to be tasteless. The dish was too dry and overcooked. It didn't seem fresh. Service was excellent. I'll try this place another time, but the visit won't include Tobacco Straws or a imitation Gumbo.Thank you for your feedback I will certainly follow up as your experience certainly did not measure up. I’m going to guess the fryer needed changing as Tobacco Onions are one of our best sellers. No excuse however and I will find out why. The Gumbo, like all items is scratch made from fresh ingredients and again needs my follow up as to why we failed here. Do you mind sharing the date of your visit?Thank you again for this valuable feedback and come again as my guest. Ask for Jim, if I am not there tell them to call me.Look forward to seeing you.

Montero's Restaurant

I visited this restaurant on the recommendation of friends who are longtime patrons, and I was not disappointed. I had probably the best shrimp and grits that I have ever eaten. There were eight large grilled shrimp, andouille sausage, onions and mushrooms in a spicy (as requested) sauce over a large portion of very creamy grits. I sent my compliments to the chef. My one side of Caesar salad, for which I paid $1 extra, was definitely lacking. There was a paltry amount of romaine, no croutons and no visible cheese. The salad was dressed with two small appetizer toasts. I've never had a salad like this. My husband's request for a well done flat iron steak was accommodated and resulted in an unappetizing plate with a tiny piece of jerky-like meat and no garnish. He loved the non-mayo slaw however.Friends had no complaints about their salmon with pecan topping and two large deep fried pork chops with caramelized onion. Complimentary to the table was an assortment of tasty bread including tiny blueberry and cinnamon muffins. For dessert, friends shared a standard brownie/ice cream concoction that came in two sizes. My non-dairy strawberry "cheesecake" was flavorful but disappointing for someone who really wanted cheesecake.Service was friendly. There is an ample parking lot, although we had to park across the street at a closed business because the lot was full due to a banquet. This restaurant is obviously a local favorite and I will return to sample other entrees.
