The Vintage House Douro

In the Heart of Douro Valley's Demarcated Wine Region, considered World Heritage by UNESCO, you will find the The Vintage House - Douro, a 5 star luxury hotel overlooking the Douro river. In fact, when you get there you won't believe how close to the water it actually is. Once in your room, your first instinct will be to walk to the balcony to take in the unique landscape before you, already thinking how wonderful it will be to have lunch in the restaurant esplanade, making the best of the view. At night, after a meal in the award-winning "Rabelo" Restaurant, chat the night away with your friends in the "Library Bar", sipping a nice Port Wine.

Way nicer than the pictures

Reviewed By Joe M

We decided to stay in Pinhao after our Douro tour which was a fabulous idea. Pinhao is a lovely tranquil town and the Vintage House the perfect choice especially if arriving by train or dropped off. The hotel itself is way nicer than the pictures on their website. The location is right by the boat docks, train station, restaurants etc. Dinner was on their lovely terrace as well as their bar. Overall lovely experience.

Quiet Stay

Reviewed By rich210uk

Nice hotel in a quiet location. Check in was simple enough but we did feel pressured to pre-book times for breakfast and facilities on the spot. I understand in the really busy periods, booking is probably a good idea but there was us and maybe 2 other cars in the car park. The place was dead but we still had to book a breakfast slot. Room was clean and had a nice view, the complimentary chocolates and Port left in the room was a nice touch! Wasn't much in the surrounding area but we wanted a quiet couple of nights and we definitely got that.

Peaceful, Pretty and Comfortable

Reviewed By Robert D

The service and staff were very good, check in and out was smooth and various extra requests were handled with efficiency and smiles. The building, a fort, has a novel aesthetic as it is, but the beautiful decor really enhances, softens and adds warmth to the historic military purpose. The room was very large and spotlessly clean although a little dated compared to newer city properties. I found the hotel to be very peaceful and relaxing.

It is a nice green place to spend quality time with your family. The view is fantastic. It is surrounded by mountains, has a great outside space for walking/running, a futebol playground, a children playground, 2 artificial lakes. Benefits from exterior pool (it was closed in April) and inner swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish steam. Also has a space for snooker and other games (unfortunately was also closed in April). Beside the casino of course (which I was not visited because of children). The room is spacious and cleaned daily. Nice breakfast (bufê) with choices for all tastes. The price is fair.

Very nice location on the river. Close to the train station and a short walk to the downtown area. The room was very nice, everything worked as expected. Good wifi connection. We really enjoyed the morning breakfast spread. Good selection of fresh fruits, pastries and bread, cereals and eggs and bacon. WE took tours of the river and wineries plus a great experience with a cooking demonstration. What a great place to be.

Intriguing

Reviewed By ZaruW

A brilliant hotel overall. Pros: The building, the reception, the interiors, the rooms, provided beautiful visuals. Excellent value for money for the quality of your stay. The breakfast (included in price) was phenomenal. Good variety. The room was spacious; lots of space for storing/hanging clothes. Nice spot to sit & work if need. Nice practical bathroom; sink, mirror, taps and powerful great shower. The staff were friendly and professional. Everything was clean and well maintained. Lovely balcony with fresh views. Nice art, sitting areas, TV, bar etc for those spending time in the common areas. Cons: As a couple, we purchased a "double room" as explicitly stated. However despite the Hotel being extremely empty at the time of stay, we still only got a room with two single beds pushed together with individual bed sheets. This made it awkward to try and fix the sheets to sleep together. The confirmation email stated under special requests - bed preference - "Standard Double Room: 1 double" Only found out the swimming pool is closed from 15 Oct 2019 - 1 Jun 2020 after the confirmation email - their website is also quite broken currently to look up anything on their site. Bathroom - no air refreshener sprays - didn't see any ventilation..? Side of the bathtub built a puddle when showering, it would overflow and leak on the floor. (Room 217) One of the two glasses in the room had candle wax stuck the the bottom corners - I assume previous guests lit a candle, poorly washed it and the cleaning service didn't think the glass was used and did not clean it? We asked reception to replace it. The room minibar was a little expensive. Would prefer plastic bags in the bin to place rubbish in. (Don't think cleaning staff want to hand scrub bins?) A closet light didn't hard but was not an issue in the slightest. English on all leaflets was a bit comically poor. The only real thing that bothered us was the two single beds in a double room. Don't get the wrong idea, it was an exceptional room and place to stay. Great for price, high quality, fancy. A brilliant hotel and highly recommended.

On our tour in the north of Portugal, we chose to spend one night at the Hotel Premium. The location of the hotel is very central, it is, among other things, very well visited. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms are large and very nice, with equipped with a safe, flat screen TV, etc. For dinner it is not necessary to look outside, because the hotel has a very nice restaurant where you can enjoy delicious food. You can eat at democratic prices and are served very good quality of food. Here again very personable and friendly staff, we opted for the "Rodizio", delicious, it had been years ago that we had enjoyed this dish. In short, our stay was super good and certainly worth repeating.

Nothing like my idea of a 5-star hotel

Reviewed By Jo G

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel with a walking group (Exodus). The location amidst vineyards is attractive but about 30 mins drive to the nearest town. Reception staff mostly spoke no English and were pretty unhelpful. The overall impression in the new wing where our rooms were was of an old people's home. The first room I was given was a disabled room with grubby tiles all down one wall, a disabled toilet and shower with no bath. I asked to move and was given a slightly better room with a bath but the decor was all dark brown and dark green so very dismal. Only the toilet was partitioned off from the room so it would certainly not be suitable for sharing with someone you didn't know very well. The long corridors (ramps) to the rooms are floored in stained grey plastic: very institutional. The old building was attractive and the restaurant was OK.
