After a 10 hour flight, arrived not really knowing where anything was, I managed to find a closing Starbucks and the waiter pointed me in the direction of 'groovys'. No where else seemed to be open and i just wanted some food, when in American you have to have pizza and this place was a gem. Not too pricey and can either take away or eat in. Pizzas already part cooked and just heated up in a pizza oven. Tasted brilliant and if ever back in miami i know where to go.

La Pizza is a brand-spanking new pizza restaurant that I have tried twice so far. It's located at 71st Street next to the Dixie Hwy, near the kabob place. The menu is currently just pizza and salads. They offer different types of crust. I tried the Neopolitan crust, which is the classic thin-ish in the center but thicker at the edge, and I tried the Roman crust, which is thin all the way to the edge. There is also a "Brooklyn" crust which I haven't tried (yet). I ordered both types in Margarita, otherwise known as a regular cheese pizza. The crust was very good in both versions. Each pizza had the right balance of sauce and cheese. Sauce was good, flavorful, not too lumpy, and the cheese was pleasingly gooey. Again, not too skimpy, not too gloppy, just the right amount of cheese. On each occasion I ordered in person at the restaurant and waited no more than 15 minutes. Service was prompt and attentive. There's also an ice cream counter; I can't recall if it was Ben & Jerry's or Haagen Daz, but it was definitely one of those two brands. This is definitely a place worth checking out. While it may feel a little tucked away, it's easy to get there from Sunset Place mall, or the hospital/medical offices across the Dixie Hwy. I'm a pizza lover, and La Pizza is a very worthy contender to be one of the top pizza joints in SoMi. It's infinitely better than Power Pizza, better than The Big Cheese and Moto Moto, and if you like Anthony's or Blue, this is a good bet for you.

Have had pizza three times here now. Each time, consistently good thin crust pizza. On the last visit, we had 7 folks at dinner and there was something for everyone. I think we ordered 5 pies and despite having hungry teens, there were slices left over. We tried the vegan, the meat lover, the plain, the mushroom truffle and the speck/burrata offerings. Each pie was very tasty. The speck one was interesting but instead of chopping up the speck (which, BTW, is like prosciutto), it was laid in on the pie in maybe 4 big strips, which slide off the pie when you bite into them, so you end up eating a whole slice at once. The burrata is a watery cheese so the sliding is to be expected. It would be better if the speck were chopped, because you end up not having meat on each slice. Other than that, nothing but good to report. Service friendly and prompt. Good mix of folks, families, people on dates, older folks. A nice neighborhood joint!

After reading the great reviews I took my two kids to Harry's in the Grove for a late lunch. We ordered the classic cheese pizza and the spicy pepperoni pizza. The pizza came out hot and looked delicious. However, after the first bite I was a bit disappointed. Nothing special, tasted like many other pizzas cooked the same way. I was expecting more flavor and a better dough. I have had much better at other similar pizza shops. The service was very good, friendly, welcoming staff. However, the pizza was jut okay...

Pizzas and salads are good. My 2 critiques are that the pizza could have been cooked more so that the bottom of the crust was more flavored from the wood oven, and the salad could have been dressed or tossed better. Much of the spinach was left dry and unflavored. But, that said, we still enjoyed the food. The waiter was great. The best was the zabaglione. Creamy, flavorful and light...paired with strawberries...great.Hey agiewild! Thank you so much for your honesty!! I'm so glad we met your needs and gave you a good service. Next time, please let us know without any hesitation if you have a question. Hope to see you again soon!

The Big Cheese

My husband and I used to go to The Big Cheese all the time while studying at UM 10 + years ago. We were just in town last week, and wanted to take our daughters to somewhere we used to go back when we were dating. It was SO good! Our daughters loved the cheese pizza, my husband loved his calzone, and I loved my spaghetti with chicken and mushrooms (The Walter KBC Special I think it was called). I have dreamed about those garlic rolls, and they were just as good as we remembered! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!
