I have enjoyed eating here many times because it has unbeatable views, and is really an unmatchable experience... especially for visitors. I know It’s expensive and am happy to pay for the experience however after this night it’s doubtful if I’ll go back. When paying for overpriced food, good service is expected. It was not overly busy, and yet The staff were preoccupied, inattentive and scarce! Repeatedly I had to go to the waiting station to ask for table service. And the service didn’t improve! It was embarrassing for me and my guests. Can’t help feeling the staff felt they didn’t need to do their job because the location and views did the work for them. Maybe.... but what a shame that Singapore’s principle attraction will be tagged for its location, not for an experience! Shame on you Ce La ViePs the food was 8/10 and in my opinion was undeservingly pretentious.Dear SurFunnThank you very much for your candid review of your recent experience at our venue. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, as we strive to improve with each and every guests that comes and experiences Ce La Vi. My deepest apologies for the major shortcomings in food / beverage quality! OR I am truly sorry to hear that due to the extended delays in service. you were left feeling rather dissatisfied & were not able to enjoy the evening as originally intended. I would like to assure you that here at CE LA VI we do pride ourselves on excellent guest care. Since we fell short on this occasion, we sincerely hope to get the opportunity to welcome you and your guests back for another visit with the hope that we can redeem ourselves Please reach out to me directly at [email protected] if you would be willing to give us a chance to turn your experience around. The restaurent is extremely noisy, and difficult to sustain a decent table conversation without having to shout. We enjoyed the complimentary starters. Once the courses were served, we found the portions very small. Their plating was exceptionally pretty! The service was extremely slow, we were kept waiting a long time in between courses, consequently we finished our dinner very late. Beef tartare was rather spicy. The oysters were much appreciated as the sauce was fabulous albeit spicy. The abalone was tender and delicious. The lamb rib was tender and delicious. Dessert was good and creative.

It was a quiet night at Whitegrass when we had dinner. Presumably due to fact that it had closed late 2018 and only recently reopened with a new Japanese chef with a strong background cooking French food. The combination and experience was most delicious and enjoyable. Table service was very pleasant with a young lady who explained what was being served. Reservations are held with a credit card booking to the value of $150 per diner as the restaurant may have experienced last minute cancellations in the past. Still I find this rather steep and the restaurant should work towards a more congenial policy that recognises the importance of a diner and the high quality output of the chef. Congratulations to the chef and his team for providing us with an outstanding dinner. Dear Ms SunMoonShine,I’m delighted you had a great experience at Whitegrass. We’re passionate about showcasing the classical French fare with a modern Japanese twist that we served. We endeavour to go above and beyond for our customers, so for you to say you had a pleasant table service is a source of great pride! I have told Cheryl about your kind comments and they’d love to thank you in person the next time you’re in! We're extremely sorry that you had to face such difficulties with the reservation deposit. As we have experienced a high volume of last min cancellations a no-show, we have the 24 hours cancellations policy in place in order to control the increase in food cost.We may not be able to change the past but if you give us a chance, we will completely make it up to you. We’re really grateful for your feedback and look forward to serving you again!

Impressed by the good reviews and the attractive executive set lunch menu and price, I booked a table for a weekday lunch with my boss and two colleagues in celebration of their recent promotion. Being finicky diners, I had to make sure that I chose a place that would appeal to their refined tastebuds (they are French and good cooks). The fact that the restaurant is located in the iconic Shangri-La Hotel is already a plus point and we hoped it would match the quality standard of the hotel’s reputation. We were warmly and cordially greeted and seated. The restaurant has touches of ‘maritime’ (look at the hanging lamps); the place is bright with a high ceiling and arches, contrasted by deep wood tones and teal-coloured chairs. Prior to our meal, we were served a complimentary basket of freshly baked sourdough rolls that were delicious; crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.During our first visit, one of the choices for starters was grilled octopus, which my French counterparts opted for and thoroughly enjoyed. For the main course I chose the Wagyu steak which turned out very well, tender and tasty with a hint of smoke from the grill. The fish option was also good. The restaurant manager was friendly and accommodating and service was very cordial and efficient. Based on my first experience, I decided to select this venue for my mother’s 85th birthday and it turned out to be one of the best celebrations we have had. There were 12 of us and we had the use of the lovely, spacious private room where we had a flower arrangement delivered and set a balloon on the table to add to the party touch. We also had individual menus and place names prepared for each guest. Our hostess that afternoon was Pei San who was both attentive and fun and made sure we had what we needed. The different courses came out at good timings and she also got the cake (ordered from the hotel bakery) ready with the candles and brought it in at the appropriate time. Everyone enjoyed their meals and were treated to more desserts than expected. We certainly appreciated the restaurant manager for making time to come into the room to personally wish my mother a happy birthday. I would like to commend the establishment for empowering their staff to allow them to be flexible and to be able to grant guests’ little wishes when they are doable and feasible. My mother has repeatedly mentioned that she would like to celebrate her next birthday here again and I do think that is what we plan to do.Dear Ophir77,Thank you for your kind review! We are delighted that you had an enjoyable time with us at Origin Grill. Such warm compliments always motivates the team to go the extra mile to make our guests happy.Origin Grill is designed to resemble an upscale train station, taking inspiration from Singapore's history as an important trading port as well as the nostalgia of steam train travel. We are glad Origin Grill is your chosen place of he birthday celebration for your mother, and glad that everything went well. Though the plates were nicely presented, it was definitely on the small side, even with the 4 bites we were served before our 4 course dinner. The food didn’t have much taste and did not impress us.The service was efficient, though there were just a few of us in the plain restaurant, I just wished the waiter stopped putting her fingers in the plate when giving explanations. The wine was good.In the end, another restaurant pretending to be what it is not.Thank you for dining with us and also thank you for your feedback. We value your feedback on our food and appreciate the thought you have put in. We are glad to know all of you enjoyed our efficient service and good wine. Thank you for your feedback again.Hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you again sometime in the future.
