Arcos de la Frontera (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈarkoz ðe la fɾonˈteɾa]) is a town and municipality in the Sierra de Cádiz comarca, province of Cádiz, in Andalusia, Spain. It is located on the Northern, Western and Southern banks of the Guadalete river, which flows around three sides of the city under towering vertical cliffs, to Jerez and on to the Bay of Cádiz. The town commands a fine vista atop a sandstone ridge, from which the peak of San Cristóbal and the Guadalete Valley can be seen. The town gained its name by being the frontier of Spain's 13th century battle with the Moors.

When you drive into the town coming from Jerez side past the Repsol garage you find El Retiro bar and restaurant. The bar is popular especially at lunch times but in the back you have a large dining room with windows overlooking the park and offering nice views towards the famous old town of Arcos. The lunch is of good quality yet simple and very affordable. Never busy and well worth stopping if touring the area or merely wanting a "room with a view" and a bite.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Arcos and visited el destierro 4 times as we enjoyed it so much! Yes, as in my previous review (and those of others), the quality of the seafood is excellent and the dishes are prepared with great skill, but what really sets it apart is the great welcome and care all guests receive. The people here are charming! If you enjoy eating the best seafood, in an unpretentious place and dining with the locals - you will love this!!! Oh, and the arroz caldoso is fantastic!!Familia, no tenemos palabras para agradecer vuestra confianza en nosotros, esta es vuestra casa para cuando gusteis de volver, un fuerte abrazo!!!

We visited with our family of 4 during our summer break. We were welcomed by the host and had a very pleasant stay.The waiter did not speak English and also the menu was only in Spanish, so we had to improvize a bit but thanks to online translation we got somewhere. But it would be nice to have an English menu available as well.Food was very nice, with nice amuses and sides and a sort of complimentary ice cream/dessert afterwards. If you are around in Arcos and are considering a nice dinner, don't bypass this spot!Muchas gracias por su visita y comentario en TripAdvisor. Comunicarles que ya disponemos de la carta bilingüe.
