The Bay Bed and Breakfast

There is a bed but no breakfast

Reviewed By reneerG5842OW

We stayed for 2 nights. The location is good for being near restaurants downtown but not good if whistle blowing trains and road noise will keep you awake. There was nobody but other guests . We walked into what looked like the end of an event not yet cleaned up after . The furniture is old and the sofas are not comfortable. It has potential but needs some special TLC. The bed was ok to sleep on. We had to hunt down water glasses in a very cluttered kitchen and also no washcloths in our bathroom. The owner sounds so welcoming on the phone but i question her way of running a bed and breakfast.

Shacksdale Motel

Shacksdale Motel is a Mississippi alternative to luxury lodging. All of our "shacks" have modern conveniences with a rustic feel. Our "shacks" have a full kitchen and private bath. You will feel like you could live here.

Finally made it........

We had been trying to get to Shack Up Inn for a long time. But to be accurate we stayed in the Shacksdale Motel. This is the other side of the road (single track) to Shack Up Inn and appears to be a part of the Shack Up Inn, sharing facilities, check in, gift shop etc. Our welcome was quite 'quiet', but the accommodation was as expected and very quirky. Although breakfast was from Wednesday on (bagels and cream cheese on other days) the bagels were all that was available. There was live music from 5.30 on Wednesday which we went to and it was good. The service behind the bar was fine but not the usual 'southern welcome' we had become used to. I got the impression that although this was an amazingly different concept and unquestionably photogenic the staff were 'just doing their job'. Except Barry, Barry drove us into town to go to the music at Reds and to eat in town. Barry was a warm welcome, very kind and interesting and he massively made up for the 'too cool for school' feel of the rest of the staff.

Could / Should be a nice place

Reviewed By Chuckwud

Lack of maintenance, neglect has made the Cottages At Kirkwood a less than desirable property. Walls have holes from door knobs, scraped Sheetrock, simple things like light over stove didn’t work, toilet wobbled on floor instead of being securely bolted down. Needs TLC and appears to not have had this for several years. Smoke detector is “antique” and yellowed- a $15 replacement would be a sensible expense. Refrigerator door shelves have no guards to hold items on door. You get it - lots of neglect and that’s a shame.

A true gem!!!

Reviewed By stephbu02

My finacee and I are planning to get married on the steps of a historic plantation home in Natchez, Mississippi. In order to meet with all of the wedding coordinators (florist, caterer, cakes, etc.) we needed to take a weekend trip to set up all of the details. We looked into different hotels but needed two rooms (one for my mom and I and one for him). As we searched the internet, we stumbled upon the Sunset Rise Cottage (previously known as Baby Deer Cottage). WOW!!!!!! Did we find a true gem! Tom (the owner) was so accommodating and wonderful to work with. We rented the cottage for the weekend and had more room than we could ask for. In addition to two bedrooms and two bathrooms, we had a kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, beautiful front porch, and a private balcony on the back of the property overlooking the Mississippi river. Breakfast was provided and we enjoyed it as we watched the sun rise out on the front porch (overlooking the gorgeous cemetery). My finacee took a leisurely walk through the cemetary and was impressed with all of the ornate and interesting statues and landscaping. Sunrise Cottage was the perfect place to relax and undwind after a busy day of wedding planning. Instead of being cooped up in a cramped hotel room, we were very pleased to have so much room to relax and discuss our findings. We were also impressed with the historic details that were put into the remodling of this home. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy yourself while in Natchez, I would DEFINATELY suggest this cottage. We are going back in November to finalize our wedding plans and will be staying here again. In addition, we are suggesting this place to our family members as a wonderful place to stay during the weekend of the wedding. Tom also has a one-bedroom cottage on the same property called Sunset View Cottage (See the website - [--]. Upon arriving at Sunrise Cottage, he was kind enough to show us this other cottage. It is absolutely georgous! My finacee and I were so impressed with it that we are considering staying there our first night of the honeymoon! Both homes are absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend them if you are planning a trip to Natchez.
